There are signs in the lobby area saying "no drugs, no prostitutes" or you get kicked out. I asked to see the room before paying and so I was given a room on the second floor facing the lake. There were problems with the power and the chain-lock on the door was broken but the manager there fixed the power situation at least. Another manager later on told me that they have a problem with drugs and hookers but that they are usually put in the back of the hotel. So no worries! Otherwise the hotel room was clean, even though it wasn't safe, and I slept well. Good value but not for the faint of heart.

The Value Motel fit all of these requirements; the staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room I had was on the top floor at the front of the motel at the end of the building the view was perfect. I also liked the fact they had vending machines at the motel, and I was able to even buy a pizza from the front desk, which I cooked in the Microwave. What I liked about that is the fact that was convenient I was able to relax the whole time and did not have to leave the motel. I also found the showers to be nice in the rooms. I would definitely come back again.

Our rental was owned by the resort (as opposed to being owned by an individual, which some cottages are). We found our rental very homey. It was spacious and layed out in such a way as to allow independent activities in different rooms that didn't impact the other person. The "resort" in mid-winter was quiet. The cottages are arranged close together, and it's easy to look into the windows next door. It's a tolerant jaunt to the beach and Rathtrevor Provincial Park, though not ADA accessible. If ADA access is needed to get to the beach, drive to the park from the resort (about one mile). The beach and park are outstanding in winter. The resort staff were very helpful and downright chipper. When we checked in, they kindly and patiently explained what was to us a unique style of accommodation (cottage rentals in a resort). Complaints and concerns expressed during our stay were graciously received, also. The kitchen was very good; plenty of accouterments and appliances. Note that the only food in the kitchen was salt and pepper. Bring spare paper towels and napkins. Washer and dryer worked great, and included one load's detergent. Bring detergent. The fireplace was either on or off, no adjustments. It heated the cottage quickly. We never figured out any of the three televisions' remotes, which didn't matter b/c we didn't want to watch TV. Could have been fresh batteries were needed; spares are recommended, as we changed the dead ones in the cottage clock. Beds were okay, with plenty of blankets. Bathrooms were fine with plenty of linens. Lots of closet and dresser space. Great layout in the cottage; very easy to move around.

After checkout, we got a bill for not stripping the beds, cleaning up and doing dishes. At no time were we told at booking that we would be charged for not cleaning up. This is first resort to charge you for not telling you that you will be charged. Definitely Not Going Back. We go to a resort to relax, Not to do housework!

I could tell the owner of the home actually cared about it and her neighbours because she asked questions about the guests that would be staying to make sure we weren't a bunch of teenagers looking to throw a rager. She also asked questions about our dogs and we were so lucky she agreed to let them stay for a small extra cleaning fee which is 100% reasonable and understandable. Upon arriving, the garage was upstairs and Kristine was super welcoming and warm when she greeted us and showed us around. She also went above and beyond by having a few treats waiting for us and staying for an extra bit of time to answer so many of our questions as we'd never been to the island before. Super helpful and even if she was in a rush to get to her family for Thanksgiving, she didn't rush us or make it seem like she was eager to get away. We couldn't believe the view when we got to the main floor. Seriously, it was beautiful even with the rainy weather we got. The kitchen also had enough in it to make it functional - pots, pans, plates, bowls, cutlery, salt, pepper, etc. Very thoughtful for guests so you don't have to buy cheap, crappy sets for one time use. Over all, it was an amazing stay. We got to meet Karin on our way out and she was just as pleasant as Kristine. Such a nice, friendly crew for a beautiful home. The free water sports equipment (kayaks, canoes, paddleboards) were fun to use. They also had volleyball, ping pong, and other games available. Great location not far from Ganges. Viewing the chalet on line, it looked like the perfect space for us to celebrate! After receiving my confirmation I began booking the ferries required for our trip and dinner reservations to help celebrate my husband and daughters birthday. I breathed a sigh of relief to have it all set....until..I received a phone call from guy at green acres saying that it turns out they don't have my accommodations available. I don't understand how this happens. Obviously someone not doing their job properly, and we end up paying the price. All he could offer was a small unit, and a suggestion of another resort. After which time, I found out to be impossible to find accommodations at this time. So much for our planned weekend away.... :(

It had a master bedroom with a king size bed and the second bedroom had 2 single beds. Our party was 4 adults and 1 child to share 1 bathroom, but it worked out for us. The full kitchen allowed us to cook breakfast whenever we wanted. The living room has enough seating for all of us and it was it was an open layout that connected with the kitchen as well as the dining room. There's a balcony right from the living room as well as a window looking out to the ocean. It was such a beautiful view to wake up to each morning. I remember waking at up 5:25AM to go to the washroom and I was such in awe of the sun just peaking out from the horizon that I decided to stay up to watch the sunrise. There's also a children's playground on the main Parking floor. It's small, but sufficient and kept my daughter happy. The only thing that prevented Ocean Sands from being 5 stars is due to the wear and tears of the place. The 2 Lazy Boy seats had tears near the head rest and generally the place was on the older side. There's also a few areas that needed cleaning and attention outside. Other than that, we all enjoyed our stay and would stay here again when we visit Parksville.
