Clean and friendly staff. Paid for jacuzzi suite and loved it. The tv and heater was a bit of a challenge but got it figured out. Breakfast was good. Bacon, scrambled eggs, waffles, fruit, toast,butter tarts. read more

Wish I had booked to stay downtown on the waterfront. The island highway noise is brutal! I am from Vancouver and I live in a busy area but not a noisy as here! The rooms have been renovated and are nice, they have a safe, microwave etc... The shower walls could be cleaner! I hate shower with long hairs on the shower walls! I slept only 4 hours. The traffic was all night. Lighter but still noisy. The staff have really tried to accommodate me. They are sold out. At least I had 4 hours thanks to the comfy beds and pillows. They are moving me tonight. read more

Best Western Northgate Inn - Hotels Near Me - Nanaimo, British Columbia

This is a great hotel! We stayed a few nights in Nanaimo just to check out the island. We found a good rate at this hotel (on BW website) so we thought we would give it a try. Staff at the front desk are amazing!! Super friendly and helpful!! Probably the most welcoming experience we've ever had at a hotel. Room was nice and clean. Looks like there had been some renos as the rooms are updated. Pillows on the beds are amazing!! Breakfast is great. Choices of breads/pastry, waffles, eggs/bacon or sausage, coffees/teas, etc. A great way to start your day. The hotel is close to the main road but you don't notice it too much. We've had way noisier hotels. If you're a light sleeper, maybe request a room on the opposite side of the main road. The only downside is a lack of a pool. But we knew that ahead of booking so it wasn't a surprise. I would stay here again without hesitation! Great rooms, excellent value, and exceptional staff - what more can you ask for :-) read more

I think they've renovated the place since the reviews from several years ago. The hotel was clean throughout, and cleaner than some 4-5 star hotels I've stayed at in the past. Friendly service at the counter, and decent breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausages, a variety of baked goods, waffle/pancake maker, a variety of juices, coffees, fruits). A far cry from my previous (poor) impressions of Best Westerns. read more

The photo advertised on google shows the front entrance, photoshopped, subtracting the rest of the building... I was expecting something different, however the jacuzzi tub next to the bed was stellar! I wish they had a better complementary breakfast, an apple granola bar, bottle of water, paper bag was just that. (They don't have a kitchen) Overall it was an enjoyable stay read more

This is probably my new favourite best western. I have been here only 3 times since they have renovated and it is pretty great. The service is the same, kind and friendly. But the rooms and hotel are Amazing since renovated. Before the hotel was a bit outdated and the room I stayed in was ok. One of my favourite things is they have free drinks here in the lobby. A few best western kept running out of the drinks and hot water. Ever since the renovation, I would have to give this because this best western a 5 stars. read more

Wow... what great service we experienced. We arrived mid-weed, at about 9:30 at night without reservations. Surprised to find that they had little available and ended up with a King Size bed w/ kitchenette. The front desk woman, Ivy, was terrific! Very friendly and helpful. In fact, she went out of her way to inquire and provide us with information. The room was fantastic, save for a slight fishy smell (what was that?) but we opened the patio door and sat outside for 30 minutes while the room aired. A nice dry sauna downstairs. An okay breakfast by continental standards. What made our stay great was the friendly service. read more

The staff are very friendly on check in and helpful with providing directions and suggestions for activities in the area. Google shows pics of a hot tub but the hotel has been renovated and the hot tub has been replaced by a large gym facility. The room was very clean and our room 302 faced the highway and the noise was not that bad. The breakfast room was large and a typical hotel breakfast. Eggs,sausage, waffle marker, cereals, muffins and toast. They staff worked constantly to keep the trays full and the area including tables clean. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Stayed here 3/28/16-3/31/16, room 411. Room and premises very clean. Staff happy and well trained. Free breakfast is worth the price you paying. That would be $0, unless you like powered eggs and greasy sausage, but hey, you're not coming here for the free breakfast. The room I had was extremely spacious, clean and had a small kitchen. Rates are fare for a semi-budget or mid-price hotel. I would stay certainly stay here again, should I need a room in this town. read more

The girls at the front desk were very welcoming...rooms were decent. Biggest down fall was the privacy level of noise from the surrounding guests beside our room. Not sure if the walls are very poorly sound proofed but it seemed as if the guests beside us were in our room. They weren't being excessively loud but I could hear everything...ruined my sleep. I did however mention to the front desk my complaint and they are relocating me...so they are being accommodating. My only issue is with the building itself. The rooms which have jacuzzis are an issue as well. The guests beside us and 1 floor above us have jacuzzis as well. And if being used they are super loud to the neighbouring rooms. My advice is if you just want to come relax have a decent sleep, not stay out late, than request a room that provides more noise privacy or try a different hotel read more

We picked this hotel based on the favorable reviews we'd seen on Trip Advisor and because the description stated that it was close to the ferry terminal. Neither of these turned out to be true. The hotel is actually about 20 miles from the ferry terminal and the parking was extremely limited. We arrived around 1am and had to park on the far side of the hotel by the restaurant and walk all the way to the lobby. Fortunately it was adequately lit, but it made it very inconvenient. The night front desk person was very friendly but we were disappointed that we weren't given a higher floor room and had to settle for a first floor room at the far end of the hallway. There is a business center in the lobby that we were able to use, which was about the only plus of this hotel. Our room was nothing special and we had a difficult time getting the TV remote to work. The front desk employee came down and helped us with it, but the selection of channels was really limited. It seemed that almost every station we tried was blocked. The next morning we went and had breakfast in their joke of a restaurant. All of the tables were against the wall and even though we got there early and it wasn't that busy, every table was full. The only seating left was at the bar at the far end of the restaurant but we found it strange that there was a huge space in the center of the restaurant where they could have put more tables. We almost ended up leaving because we didn't think we would be able to find a place to eat. But the worst was when we checked out. The checkout time was 1100 so at 10:50 I went down to the lobby to check out while my husband packed our things. On the way I passed a housekeeping employee and casually told her that I was going to check out and that we were going to pack our things later. I check out with a woman who seemed very nice but when I returned to our room, the phone rang 15 minutes later. It was the same woman informing me that checkout is 1100. I told her that I had just gone down there and checked out and she said "Well we expect you to be out of the room by 1100!" Apparently she has short term memory and didn't remember checking us out. My husband called the front desk and asked for the manager who apologized when she noticed that we are Best Western Gold card members and said she would give us extra points for our stay. However, this does not excuse the way we were basically told to leave so abruptly. But we were more than happy to do so. BTW, there is a Coast Hotel in Tsawwassen that is closer to the ferry terminal and I'm guessing would provide much better service. This was not a good way to start our week-long trip to Vancouver Island. We stayed at several different hotels along the way and this one was the most expensive, even more so than some luxury places we stayed. read more
