My friend and I came here and walked the big loop around the park. It's a great spot to walk as it's very flat and open. There were a lot of people here that day but it never felt too crowded. There are also clean restrooms available and there's plenty of space for parking. read more

Great park located in Wilmington! As you could expect from the name, there are longleaf pines throughout. It makes for a lot of shade and also just makes you feel nice being immersed in nature like that. The place seems to be pretty populated on a regular basis when I drive by but never overcrowded. There are plenty of walking and biking trails, pond with a bridge, a dog park with two sides or small and large dogs, and even work out equipment. I'm happy this place is available to residence and guests of Wilmington and I know I will continue to come back with my dog. read more

This is a beautiful park with many different areas to explore. There are several pavilions and playgrounds of all all different sizes. They have a great splash pad area for when it's hot and sand volleyball courts, too. My favorite part is by the pond. They have a huge dog park that is a lovely place to take your dog. One side is for big dogs and the other is for little ones. Great walking paths, too. read more

Hugh MacRae park is beautiful and very family friendly (including your fur family!). There's multiple picnic areas, walking trails, parking spots, and playgrounds. There's even a softball field, basketball court, dog park, and cute little walking bridge over a pond. Driving through the park is a tad confusing, with multiple one ways and narrow roads. You also have to be very aware of your surrounds due to unsupervised children frequenting the park. The park also sits at a very busy intersection so entering and exit can be very challenging. However, this is a fantastic place to spend the afternoon by yourself or with the family! Covid update** as of this review date the playgrounds and water park are still closed off to the public. The rest of the park seems to be open! read more

Park wherever you feel like! Bring your crazy kids and leave them unattended! Aside from occasional rude people, I do like the park. There's a pond with walking bridge and gazebo. A paved looping trail or two (couple miles long). A playground/splash zone type situation for the kiddies. Ball fields, tennis/bball courts, pull up bars. Is that a fenced equestrian park? Never seen a horse there. Picnic shelters galore! Always people having a special event or party or cookout at these. I mostly come here for the dog park. They have separate small and large dog fenced in areas, but some people don't understand what size dog they have. Lots of trees and shade. Hey, if you get too bored or need a break, you can just take a shortcut walk to Brewer's Kettle. read more

PANDEMIC REVIEW: This is a great place to social distance with lots of space in between tables and wide open grassy and shaded areas for picnics. There is a dog park that's been closed (so is the playground, so sad for the kids!). There's a nice pond, lots of ducks and geese, and some walking paths. There's also an outdoor exercise circuit. The last few times I've been here there were large groups of people not respecting social distancing, particularly in the basketball court area, but I just walked far away from them. There's weak, but free, wifi in this park. read more

This is an excellent park! I was there this past Sunday for the Food Truck Rodeo. Even in the rain we had a blast. There was plenty of covered seating. As the rain slowed we walked over to the playground. As a kid at heart I had a ton of fun. As an educator I thought it was amazing because there are several pieces of equipment for kids with special needs. Although I did not do it this day, running at this park is really nice as well. It is shaded and paved. There is also a dog park that I have not tried before but would love to. read more

This is for the small dog park side only. Its great you have to let the dogs be dogs and set their boundaries. If you have a sheltered dog that is not used to other dogs and rough play I would highly advise to not bring them to the dog park. Some dogs are just very vocal and rough when they play. So do not get mad when your dog is hovering because they're never let out the house or rarely around other dogs. If you're trying to find a place to acclimate your dogs to other dogs great but again understand that dogs have to set boundaries with each other and it's best to socialize them as soon as possible they will get used to the rough play it's only best to interfere when they're actually attacking each other not just rough play. On the small dog side we don't ever have dog fights but on the big dog side probably about 5 days out the week. read more

What a fantastic little park complete with a bathroom and running/walking trail that's ~1.5 miles per loop. Very shaded and complete with a basketball court and 2 dog parks (small dog & large dog). I love bringing my dog here, and I do believe he loves it as well! He is a smaller breed min pin Chihuahua mix but I put him in the large dog yard because he's so crazy. Owners watch there dogs very closely, there is plenty of room for them to run. Also a very clean area for play! read more

It's been renamed Long Leaf Park due to its abundance of the pine trees throughout the park. A much better namesake for the park rather than in honor of the white supremacist who donated the land to the county. Update this Yelp! read more

Hugh MacRae.. I'm not even sure who that is. I've been to this park a handful of times and I can say that it is beautiful, and well kept. There's a trail for running or walking that's even measured out. There are stations for working out in the park.. there's a nice pond in the center with a pavilion that makes for great pictures.. The tall pines feel serene whispering through the city.. It's also the ONLY leash-free dog park I can find in the entire city. That's a huge benefit. I almost always visit with my German Shepherd to let her off the leash and socialize with the other pups.. but I think she likes walking through the park more.. All in all.. this place is a Gem and I'm very glad that it's here. read more

Super nice and centrally located in New Hanover County close to the college and oleander intersection. It is operated by the county and is very clean and safe. It has a little bit for everyone. Nicely paved paths, baseball/softball fields, picnic areas, pond, dog park, playgrounds. There was a always something going on.
