I was looking for a place for my daughter to get the energy out and, with good reviews, headed toward Riverwalk Park. It just so happened to be their Christmas market and fair - with face painting, vendors, special treats and games. My little one could have cared less about the aforementioned happenings. She cares about playgrounds and this park had one of the best we've seen. It was crawling with kids, so even better for entertainment! She played for hours. There was plenty of space, nooks and crannies for kids to run and do their own thing. The equipment all looked in good repair and the park was very clean. Everything is surrounded by mature trees so the playground was shaded during our visit. As lunch approached, we walked over to the water for some calm & relaxation. There are a couple of boat ramps, though I believe I was there at low-tide as one looked inaccessible. There were also a couple of swings to sit and look out over the water. I noted a walking trail as we were leaving and would certainly return to see the rest of the park. I was very impressed with my first visit here.

It's got a couple places to sit and a couple poop bag dispensers and the trash can. There is a nice double-gated entry area as well as a water fountain for the dogs. There are a few agility items spaced all around and the ground covering is just normal natural ground covering. You just have to walk around the building!!

The 35 acre park has four baseball/softball fields, two basketball courts, two tennis courts, a shuffleboard and bocce ball court, horseshoe pit, picnic shelters, TWO playgrounds and a dog park. Pretty much everything. I did get a little bit of a walk on the walking trail. There is more than enough parking here and easy access from the roadway. Dogs need there space not to be in the middle of an active field with small dogs, ppl, children. That's a bad connection. The trainers bring dogs that have no control of their senses to a family park in an open space. Park department should not allow this. My dad trained German shepherd , Doberman and he trained them indoor until they were well trained and obedience. If they continue to get complains the park department may listen. I don't know why they are not investigating yet. I would hate to have find another park for my pup because of safety.

My aunt has also done one of the training classes with her dog and recommends! We will definitely make this part of our routine when we visit Southport because our dog Wilson had an amazing time! The bathrooms were closed, but they had porta potties available. The drinking fountain was closed during my visit. There is one covered picnic shelter. There was some pretty small purple trees, and some purple flowers on the trails. There are basically two separate loops on both halves of the park. It takes about 20 minutes to walk the loop on the right side by the playground and about 13 minutes to walk the loop on the left side of where the dog parks are located. The left side loop will have more of a view of the road and cars passing by, but you won't have that on the right side of the park. You'll still hear the cars passing by no matter where you are though. Most of the trails are lined with tall trees. It was overcast on the day I went, so can't say how shaded the trail is. I'll guess that it's not very shaded. Some parts of the trails line up to houses in the neighborhood. Walking both of the loops, checking out all of the trails took about 1.5 miles total, but on the website it is 1.25 miles. Highest elevation is maybe 10 feet. The walking trail was paved, easy to navigate with my jogger stroller. The playground is targeted towards older kids. Lots of climbing structures and one slide. The dog park is separated into smaller dogs and larger dogs. There were a lot of tennis balls and benches in the dog park. Located outside of the dog parks was a drinking water station with a doggy bowl. Doggy bags are located in the park and some trash cans throughout the park. There's also an open fitness area right by the playground. Very nice and clean (although, still very new) park to walk.

Christmas will come with gifts of new turf. It will not have the rubber under it, but it will definitely be a HUGE step up. I believe once this happens, I will consider upping this review to 4 stars. The field has this "arc" that is approximately 10' from the goal which is different than anything I have ever played. Actually, that is why I am dropping a star. The rule does not allow ANYONE to go into the arc (similar to hand ball). The goalie cannot come outside of the arc unless one foot is in or jumps out; this is just UN-NATURAL! I have been playing for 27 years and I cost us two penalty kicks because I was in the arc when I was trying to stop the ball. I think it is just over thinking injuries and trying to be too protective of the keeper. However, if a defender was allowed to actually put the goal to his back, he can protect the goalie more...I just want everyone to know, it is very different and I don't like it. Moreover, one sideline has a wall (12' highish) and the side closest to the stands has a net...I have never played in a place where the net is INBOUNDS?!?!? I know it is expensive, but I would recommend plexiglass. The ball is a sudo nerf ball...When I asked Janine why, she said that it is easier on the goalies since they get hit so much (THIS IS BECAUSE DEFENDERS CANNOT BE IN THE WAY OF THE SHOT DUE TO THE ARC or the goalie cannot come out!!!). Lastly, people do not wear shin guards, although you can if you want. Leagues: Seems there are three divisions and I believe she said there are 28 teams this season? 10 games and each team costs $400. Skill levels vary, but the games are 5v5, so most people run a 1-2-1 or a 2-2 formation. Subs are on the fly and D3 didn't have to much aggressiveness (I saw 3 games). Our game was at 830pm, but I believe D3 plays on Wednesdays from 730-1030 pm. D1 is Mon...D2 Tues... The facility can host birthday parties and has a large stands area for the size of the warehouse...I guess people have been playing pick up at this location for 10 years or so and it use to be a lot smaller. They also have after school kids activities. I read the flyer and was pretty impressed with their commitment to kids. Recommendations: 1-Change the turf...2-get rid of the ARC and let us play normal indoor soccer....2-put plexiglass up...4-see if we can add another field...5-play with a real soccer ball.

The management and staff are truly amazing and Mrs. Janine runs a tight ship to ensure the children are in a safe yet fun environment. It's a great place for children to release all of their energy after school or during the summer months. As for the birthday party option, the staff is amazing! We had a full house with lots of different activities for the kids to choose and the best part was NO CLEAN UP as the staff handles everything for you!
