I decided to get a second opinion, and was offered a much simpler solution--adding a second cold air return--which resolved the issue and actually improved system efficiency for around $400 total. My takeaway isn't just about Long's, but HVAC work in general. Always get two to three bids, especially for air conditioning. I've had multiple companies work on the same house, and it still wasn't running correctly until a simpler, more experienced solution was applied. You don't want inexperienced technicians guessing or experimenting on your system. You want someone knowledgeable who's been doing this work for a long time. Ask questions, challenge repair recommendations, and require that they put it in writing that they've correctly diagnosed the issue and that the repair will fix the problem. I was so pleased I felt like doing a naked Happy Dance around my condo! Fortunately, I regained my senses and saved my neighbors the shock! I've used these guys for years for routine stuff, but the real test of an AC Company is do they step-up-to-the-plate when you have a problem. They had their chance a few days ago as I had my first problem. Responsiveness- I went down early on a Sunday evening when it was 90+ outside. Not good! I delayed contacting them until Monday morning as not many folks want to pay increased weekend rates! On Monday, I contacted them around 10:30 and received a 3-5 time slot. Two guys arrived about 3:15. To me, that's an awesome response during the summer! Workmanship- They quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad capacitor. They had it replaced, and they were gone within an hour for $175! It could have been much much worse hence the Happy Dance! I called many companies in my local area, obtained estimates, and checked each company's product ratings. What I found was surprising. I found the most used company in my development untrustworthy and crossed them off the list. A highly rated company here in Lake Placid, Apples to Apples, wanted (FIVE THOUSAND) more than anyone else. Additionally, after the fact, I found that they charged my neighbor extra for (quote, duck work repair.) Since I was in my neighbor's attic just months earlier, connecting cable wires, I saw NO issues with their Air Handler ducking. The last two companies I found had no factory authorization. If only 0 stars was an option. We called early on a Saturday morning, scheduled an appointment for 1:00 that afternoon. The service tech was a no call no show. We called at 3pm that afternoon and was told he would be here in less than an hour. We are still sitting at 6pm with no air conditioning. I called again to get a very rude after hour service agent that could not give me any information except that they would get my message either Sunday morning or maybe Monday morning she couldn't say. When I left my house for three days it was a hot box. Longs came to the rescue. They went over and above what I expected. They sold me a much better unit with a known name of Carrier for the same price as a lesser unit with a no name brand. The men sent to out the unit in were very patient with all my questions. We got a model with something that reduces the amount of humidity in the house. What a difference! All and all great service and to our surprise a better than expected price. We are so happy with Long's as our heating and air conditioning company. Their service is above and beyond. We were preparing to leave for vacation and our air conditioning failed the evening before our early morning flight. I made a call and arranged for a neighbor to let them in. They came later that day...diagnosed a bad fan and fan motor. Since our unit was older, it was not worth putting the money in repairs and we decided to replace. They actually sent a tech out to replace the fan and motor the next day, in order to keep the house cool until the replacement could be installed the next week...at no extra charge. Our AC unit was on it's last legs when we decided to invest in a whole new system. From the gals in the office who schedule the estimate visit to the tech who wrote the estimate to the two fellas who did the install, it was one happy experience. In today's world of scheisters and scammers and corporate indifference, our transaction and interaction with Long's was a delight from start to finish! Carrie in the office was so cheerful, helpful and knowledgeable and followed up when we got too busy to call her back instead of waiting on us to make our move. (My husband was getting estimates and said Carrie's help put Long's over the top on making a decision!) The tech who did the estimate was ON TIME and gave 30 minutes "heads up" to his arrival making it super convenient to know when to expect him. Then on install day, Michael and Angel worked non-stop from 7:30 AM when they arrived exactly on time, to the clean up and pull away at 4:30PM, (that includes working outside during a very heavy thunderstorm!) The installers were courteous, hard working, knowledgeable of everything we had a question for, mindful of our floors (muddy feet were covered with disposable shoe covers), and just all around impressive. They were friendly without being casual, cheerful yet serious and even lighthearted humorous making our interactions like old friends. I would HIGHLY recommend their work and services. Not sure what happened with a routine service call on 6/15/20 from Long's-- we paid for the call and were told everything in the A/C system was OK -- second house so we set the thermostat at 80' and came home -- the June electric bill doubled -- the July electric bill quadrupled -- had Duke Energy do an audit -- the A/C compressor wasn't working and the fans were running 24/7 -- no wonder the bills quadrupled Called Long's to come back out to see what happened and what we could do -- first it was the reverse valve on the heat pump -- then after a call to the office the tech days it was the compressor needed to be replaced -- no A/C so pretty uncomfortable -- 72 hours ago I asked for an estimate for a new system -- we have yet to get an estimate or even a phone call -- I guess being a customer for 10+ years isn't very important to Long's -- we've now made other arrangements -- it's just disappointing the series of events and the lack of positive customer service -- I guess they don't want to sell a 5,000+ system -- oh well read more

I have been dealing with this company for over 5weeks now with issues with a brand new unit they installed and haven't worked properly since day one. They're very unprofessional, their techs do not know what they're doing. Have escalated the issue all the way up to Mr Long himself, with no help from him either. So we will have to take this matter even further, if we want something to be done. Extremely frustrating. Do not recommend them at all. We purchased a brand new air conditioning system from Long's. First day of installation, they had to "go to the shop to pick up a part that was bad". This was supposed to be a brand new product. After waiting 6 months for the inspection, we found out the system was running both heat and cold at the same time. Our electric bill went up $2100. They came out and put a new motor in. This product was defective from day one. They refuse to pay a penny back as they are not responsible for work done on it or for maintenance on the unit itself. There is a warranty on the brand new system. I do believe they gave us an old faulty unit to begin with. read more

Had a stand-by emergency generator installed by Long's Air Conditioning. It was a fantastic experience from first contact to final installation. The owner, Mr. Kenny Long, came to our home to give us a quote after an initial phone call to their office. He has been in the business for years and has a separate team that installs a generator every day. He provided information on the equipment (Generac) that he installs and was able to provide us with a quote for the generator and a propane tank on the spot. He also had a binder of photos of his past installations. We liked him immediately and decided to proceed. Mr. Long secured the permits from the city and provided the information we needed to get the approval of our HOA. On the day of installation, his team of about 10 men, several trucks, as well as a back-hoe, front end loader and a fork lift, started showing up at about 7:30 AM and got to work immediately. The job was done by 1:00 PM and except for the generator and the dome of the underground propane tank, you would never suspect that anyone had been here. What a great company! If you want to protect your home and family from a power outage, I would whole heartedly recommend Long's. read more

Tech was supposed to show between 12 and 2 did not call like they said and did not show till almost 330. Problem was the air handler fan would not turn off. Everything else was working fine. The tech came in looked at thermostat put it back looked up at handler in Garage and made the diagnosis that that fan motor that is running needs replaced. He said he would order one got into his van and left me with not knowing a turn around time or anything. I had to call office to find out what was going on. They said he is highly certified tech. Well I still do not no when it will be repaired even though they say it is under warranty. Tech was very hard to understand with accent. Needless yo say not very amused with the services of LONG AC from Avon Park, FL. They were not my first choice just happen to be the ones that installed the unit approximately 2 years ago.
