There is a series of non-stop videos on the Great Lakes, maps, history, gift shop, etc. Everything is labeled and explained. The second part is the ship - Colonel James M. Schoonmaker. Both are self-guided tours. The indoor museum will take you about an hour if you read everything and see some of the videos. The ship, however, will take you at least an hour plus depending on how depth you want to know about the ship. The ship has two levels; bottom level is where the engines and storage are located. The top level is the deck that leads you to their living quarters. The living quarters is two stories with no elevators. The bottom level is accessible only by a steep, narrow iron ladder.

I thank my Yelp Bestie for an annual membership pass that she won for two people. I am truly grateful. This was a prime time to turn lemons into lemonade! We decided to check out the DaVinci special exhibition, shop the Museum Store and have lunch at the Plum Market Kitchen, too. The DaVinci exhibit was amazing. I had no idea of how many inventions Leonardo DaVinci made. I was only familiar with the Mona Lisa painting and the Safety Bridge. The Room of Mirrors was pretty cool. There was a lot to see and I would definitely give yourself at least 90 minutes to see both areas. There is a hangar also to see the bigger planes. There were many nice tributes, and we got a kick out of the Hogan's Heroes memorabilia. The vintage cars were a bonus. I can't wait to tell my dad he needs to take a drive here just for the classic cars! I think one of the first cars he drove was the '57 bel aire convertible. The yellow one here is in pristine condition. Also loved the vintage Bob's Big Boy side of window drive up sign. Classic! The attention to detail and restoration is truly a labor of love for many of the items here. In the hangar, there were quite a few volunteers. They were busy getting things ready for Father's Day weekend! The ford two motor plane will be taking passengers for a nostalgic ride. This museum is an amazing tribute to the put in bay, Lake Erie aviators. There is also war memorabilia! The investment that continues in this amazing museum and the diner attached is remarkable. Things could be better- there were 3 exhibits that were broken. Also, there should be more cleaning. Most of their illusion relies on reflection. But with all the reachable mirrors being dirty, it looses its appeal. The staff was friendly, helpful and went around and showed guests how to interact with the exhibit and uphold the rules around no food/drinks. Overall, nice that Cleveland has something to draw people in, however with a bit of effort, it can even be better.

I will say I expected it to be a little larger but all the exhibits were interesting. There are small placards with descriptions and informative blurbs for a lot of the pieces so if you have the time and the interest you could spend an hour here reading through the museum. If you're just browsing through the works it'll be a quick 30 minute tour. It was $20 a head for adults. I think the favorite exhibit for me was all the museum quality animal skull recreations and fossils with an emphasis on pre-historic animals.
