I have been going to Look Ho Ho for a long time and the ginger beef, spring rolls, crispy wontons, and chicken fried rice were always my go tos. I was out of the city for 2 years, and reading here I see the ownership changed while I was in Brazil. I have ordered my normal fare a few times and the first two times I had to return to restaurant to get sauce for my ginger beef. And when I asked about it, the person attended said it had always been this way. Nope. Sauceless ginger beef is just wrong. Well another location that I am a regular at for over the last 25 years. I remember when they had the fire and it was closed, not good for us regulars. Well when it opened it was just the same. Since I have been going there I get my same booth the one in the left corner near the kitchen. The staff has changed some but my girl Eva is still there better then ever. She know what I want as soon as I come in C5. I have my son the same way C2 and always followed by an extra egg roll. Service is great and the good is always fresh and great. Decided to order delivery from here as it was consistently ranking third on the best of Chinese list. It was a fairly short wait time. We ordered a chicken ball, rice,egg roll and, honey garlic rib combo. It was standard, basic almost to the point of being tasteless. The egg roll was flavourless meat paste. I've never had a meal taste so much like nothing. We also ordered the Shanghai noodle which was among the worst I've ever had, it was sour tasting and so I poured some of the honey garlic sauce on them and ate what I could. Also ordered pan friend dumplings and they were just ok, I'm glad it was a half order because didn't like them. Very disappointing would never order from here again. read more

I have to give stars to this restaurant. I have been frequenting this establishment for a long time. It is an old neighborhood favorite. We always get the Singapore Noodles (extra spicy, no shrimp). The Eggs Rolls are different for some people ( they are a meat texture), but we love them, have for years. No matter where we go, no other egg rolls compare. At Christmas is it packed, take out flying out the door in droves. Not a seat to be had, but well worth the wait. It is the place that if you go, you will see someone you know. Look Ho Ho is one of those neighbourhood institutions - it's been around forever. Everyone's parents have gone to the Look Ho Ho (and you probably did too!). The menu is your standard Chinese food fare. Of particular note are the egg rolls - delicious! Typical veggie dishes do well here; the meat is generous and the vegetables are tender without being overcooked. The dining room is of average size and seems to be quite quiet. I will confess to only having delivery or take-out, so can't advise on the quality of the service. The dishes are always piping hot when they reach my place, though, so they're doing something right! The Look Ho Ho is a decent option for take-out in this area of Halifax. Unfortunately, I have to say that they don't (as of this publishing date) offer debit on delivery, which has meant we passed them by several times in favour of those restaurants who do. read more

I have a soft spot for old, dingy Canadian-Chinese restaurants. The big colourful yellow sign with a dragon on it drew me in immediately. Also, the ridiculously strange name helped. I remember eating here a few years back and being absolutely blown away by the eggrolls, but the rest of the food was unremarkable. I had a craving for a spicy stir fry tonight and figure I'd give Look Hoho another shot, I could have went on a bad day, right? And how could the rest of their food suck if their egg rolls are THAT good? Look Hoho managed! I got the Szechuan chicken and two eggrolls, being a cheapo I just decided to make my own rice.The total was close to $17 which is a bit more than I wanted to pay but worth it for those eggrolls. The portion of the Szechuan chicken was really small. When I got home, the eggrolls were unbelievable obviously, but the chicken tasted off. Like there was some ingredient in it that should have been thrown out. There were bits of congealed sauce with a disgusting texture all throughout the food and the veggies were really mushy. I was here many times when I worked for the RCMP as a student for several months. I usually got the Lunch Combo, which included an Egg Roll (which I learned to forgo, see below) rice, and sweet and sour chicken balls. The Chicken Balls are OK, nothing to write home about, or complain about for that matter. The Rice is bland and lacks a distinct flavour. The Egg rolls where, to be quite honest, quite disguising. After having them 2 or 3 times, I would often simply substitute more chicken balls in for the egg roll. Overall, I would not recommend Look Ho Ho. I have taken the bus many times to the Halifax Shopping Centre, and every time I pass by Look Ho Ho, and every time I get really excited. Neon lights, a giant dragon, this HAS to be the home of the ever elusive crispy AND spicy chinese meal. Look Ho Ho, so good they named it twice. However, I only wish it could have been true... When myself and a friend entered, it was a bad sign when the restaurant was filled with the elderly and the placemat read "Chinese Cuisine is our specialty..." Nothing on the menu specified spicy or crispy, so I asked. The waitress didn't think there was anything that matched that description, so instead I ordered the szechuan beef, with extra spice. Because I asked for extra spice, the chef needed to be asked if it was "okay." Also not a good sign. When the food did arrive, the portions were ample, but there was little beef and mostly vegetables. It wasn't spicy as well, so hot sauce was needed. The wait staff was also not quite as attentive as I would have liked. All in all though, the vegetables were fresh and the portion size was good, if not the ratio, but I would not recommend Look Ho Ho for a dinner where the diner was looking for something special. My favourite Chinese restaurant that I have ever been to! Look Ho Ho has very satisfying food. I've tried several of their dishes and I have found that all of them have been very fulfilling. Their egg rolls, however... Wow! Their meat egg rolls are to die for, literally. While waiting for your pick-up order or dining in Look Ho Ho, is not uncommon to see people coming in to pick up orders that consist of nothing but egg rolls. I'm one of the people who will just order egg rolls for pick-up, and honestly after eating just one you will understand why people seem to flock to Look Ho Ho for their egg rolls! I could probably write an entire review on their egg rolls alone, but I won't. If you like meat egg rolls, then you really have to hop on over to Look Ho Ho and try them. They're delicious! The rest of their food ranges from average to around pretty good. Their serving sizes are pretty generous, so you will always feel content and/or full when you leave. The staff at Look Ho Ho is very friendly. Whether you're just picking up an order or going in to sit and eat, they always seem pleasant to talk to and are very down to earth people. I have been here 5-6 times in 2016. This is a good spot, providing delicious chinese food. I have tried sweet&sour chicken, gingerbeef and general thai chicken. Three of them were really perfect, I especially liked the ginger beef. I should also say that they are bringing one of the biggest spring roll ever and so good! :) Cons: Little expensive place and food quantity is not that much. The place is pretty dated in terms if decor. Very nice staff, interacted with other patrons, but we had to wait around after out meal for the bill. 2 combos+pop and a soup came to under $40. Good size portions but the food was really greasy. Bit into my egg roll and grease literally shot out all over my face and pants. For cheap Chinese food this place would not be my first choice in Hali but not the last. read more
