Well another location that I am a regular at for over the last 25 years. I remember when they had the fire and it was closed, not good for us regulars. Well when it opened it was just the same. Since I have been going there I get my same booth the one in the left corner near the kitchen. The staff has changed some but my girl Eva is still there better then ever. She know what I want as soon as I come in C5. I have my son the same way C2 and always followed by an extra egg roll. Service is great and the good is always fresh and great. Lunch time special are from 11:30 to 2:30 and it is busy especially on pay day. Stop bye and tell Eva her favorite customer sent you.

Decided to order delivery from here as it was consistently ranking third on the best of Chinese list. It was a fairly short wait time. We ordered a chicken ball, rice, egg roll and, honey garlic rib combo. It was standard, basic almost to the point of being tasteless. The egg roll was flavourless meat paste. I've never had a meal taste so much like nothing. We also ordered the Shanghai noodle which was among the worst I've ever had, it was sour tasting and so I poured some of the honey garlic sauce on them and ate what I could. Also ordered pan friend dumplings and they were just ok, I'm glad it was a half order because didn't like them. Very disappointing would never order from here again.

When I don't feel like cooking, I often dash over to Look Ho Ho for an order of Singapore noodles, ginger beef and spring rolls. Those dishes are delicious, but I haven't strayed a lot farther into the menu, because I figure, hey, once you've found something you like, why risk getting something less delightful? Still, I had been told for years that their egg rolls were fantastic, but I hadn't ventured into that territory until recently. It was a weird, but rewarding, venture. The egg rolls are filled with a sort of pureed spiced meat mixture. Not quite what I was expecting, but after a few bites, I was hooked. Now I go around craving the Look Ho Ho's egg rolls all the time. Ah, the price of experimentation.

This place is an institution. Canadian-style Chinese food with a relaxed decor unchanged since when my folks dined here in the '80s.

There's so much stuff packed in this place it would take me a day to look everything over but just being there a few minutes I found vegetable dumplings, bean curd jerkies and every variety of ramen and rice noodle around. I will definitely be back to investigate more.

When I was learning Mandarin, I felt very inclined to go into this shop to test out my skills. I never quite got the hang of the language, but I did become a fan of this grocery store as a result of my language learning attempt. You can buy pickled foods, frozen foods, dried foods and beverages, as well as sweeties and some everyday staples. You may not exactly know what something is (there aren't always adequate translations on the packages) but that shouldn't dissuade you. Approach it like a food adventure, get home cook it up and see what happens. I've purchased some pretty good egg-roll wrappers here, as well as rice and dried mushrooms. They also sell tofu pretty cheap, although it isn't organic. I recommend popping into this local grocer and expanding your horizons. The man who is always there when I am is quite nice and willing to assist you on your culinary adventure.

All I can say is...WOW! Huge! Impressive! First off...it's on two floors. The first, where you enter is filled with huge bags of rice, over sized ceramic planters and a bazillion bamboo steamers in every size imaginable. Upstairs, well let's just say you could get lots for hours. It took me a half an hour to just check out all the beautiful blue & white traditional Chinese plates and serving dishes, the woks and other Asian cooking paraphernalia. I expected rows and rows ...and then more rows and rows of Chinese, Korean (and to my joy, Japanese) bottles and bags of sauces, spices, noodles, candies...the usual, but in much larger and more varied quantities than the other Asian markets I've visited in Halifax. What I didn't expect was fresh - you heard me - fresh bok choy, plump lemongrass, napa cabbage, kai lan and persimmons, among other fresh Asian vegetables. There were fridges and freezers filled with sticky buns, other Dim Sum dumplings, Chinese pepperoni (I love it) other Asian cured pork. The staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. So all those interesting and intriguing packages - like dried lily leaves, were explained, and how and when to use them. I didn't realize, until I was two blocks from home in the North End that this is the retail arm of of Ca Hoa Enterprises, importers and distributors of Asian fare. I pass their trucks every day and never gave it a thought. Things are different now though!

The one on Joseph Howe might be bigger, definitely has the best Joe clothes line and electronics, and the one on Barrington is open the earliest (7am) which works well when I drop my husband off at the office at the crack of dawn. That said, still my favorite is the one on Quinpool. I love the organization and the great selection of natural, organic and ethnic foods, as if it were a separate store. So easy to find things. The staff is beyond helpful, making sure they take you to wherever the mystery item is supposed to be. Case in point...this morning I was on a mission to find bean sprouts - yesterday being unsuccessful at two other stores. I even went to Pete's downtown and couldn't find any. Pete's is the place I go to for things no one else seems to carry. But not today...today only the Superstore on Quinpool had some. And not yet on the shelves mind you. The sweetest staff stopped what he was doing, went to the back and brought out a box full. Great friendly, efficient service - a huge deal in my opinion. T

I constantly see the items I am purchasing, mostly vegan, rise at a ridiculous rate, most often by $1 at a time, then after a few weeks they put the item on sale for the price it was a couple of weeks prior. You obviously think the consumer is a fool? I refuse to purchase at ridiculous prices so unless you stop gouging the consumer I am done with the Superstore. One example is Riviera Vegan Yogurt. It went from about $4.59 to $7.50 in a few months. The second item is the recent addition of alarms for self serve purchases causing the shopping carts to lock up. After a few false alarms and the embarrassment of having my receipt checked, I am fed up. If you do not want to trust the customer then spend some of your fat profit and hire some cashiers and stop with the self serve option. Get back to providing customer service to the people who purchase from you because without them you would not have a business.

The Long Version: I stumbled upon this supermarket by accident as my husband and I were walking around in Halifax. It was definitely not there the last time we were in Halifax in 2022. It looks like it opened sometime in 2024. It's fairly large and similar to Asian supermarkets I've been to in much larger cities. Many of the products are from China, but I did see a few items from Thailand, The Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam and other Asian countries. I didn't see any items from Japan or Korea, but I didn't look at every single item in the store, lol. The store is big and bright. They have shelf stable items, refrigerated foods, frozen foods, fresh produce, toys and cosmetics. I'm sure if you're looking for Asian ingredients for recipes you will find them here. Service was courteous. I bought some Pokemon toys here for my little nieces and they gave me a free reusable tote bag because I spent over $20. We walked there but there appears to be some underground parking available. (189)

Thick cut, and I swear it loses less weight when it's cooked; not sure if this is because it's less fatty than regular commercial bacon or if that stuff is water chilled, but I'd say you're getting more bang for your buck in both quality and quantity. I think it clocks in at $8/lb. The breakfast sausages were a substitute for me when they were out of bacon on a recent visit. They have a fairly mild seasoning to them, and not quite that typical breakfast sausage flavour, which I am admittedly a sucker for. They're a bit more coarsely ground than most sausages, and could use a bit more fat added in as they are a bit on the dry side for a sausage.$7/lb. I picked up a batch of maple-cured English bacon on my last visit, which I'm looking forward to trying! Taken from their website about the importance of eating grass fed beef: "Grass-fed beef and lamb are now considered a health food of the highest order. Compared to grain-finished meats, it is higher in omega-3 fatty acids, beta carotene, and especially conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), an essential fatty acid largely missing from modern diets and found almost exclusively in the dairy and meat products of grass-eating ruminants (cattle, sheep, and goats)."
