Having worn glasses and contacts for almost my entire life, I've been to a lot of eye clinics... Look + See is definitely one of the best clinics I've encountered so far. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I feel confident I'm getting the best care for my eyes! I see Dr. VanMeter for my regular eye exams. She takes the time to listen to me and makes sure I'm happy with my prescription. She always manages to dig up some samples for me, despite my not-too-common prescription. The exam rooms are spotless. It's a nice, quiet setting that's perfect for folks who experience appointment anxiety. This past year was my first time ordering glasses from the store, and I'd definitely order again. The staff were extremely helpful with my indecisiveness about the frames. They had great suggestions, and I ended up with a pair I love. I initially had some issues with the fit, and they encouraged me to return as many times as necessary to ensure I was comfortable with them. Their selection of frames are on the expensive side, but they seem to be worth the price. Things to note: There's a parking garage in the same building. You can access it through the alley to the left of the clinic. They have convenient online scheduling. They also offer an online contact ordering system, but it's a little confusing to use. I had the same experience as Allie (below); changing up my prescription a number of times by giving me different contacts to wear, not listening to me and basically acting like I was a total pain. I was just not seeing the value add and I had to go back 4-5 times over a 3 week period when i would have been pretty happy with the then current prescription. I've worn glasses/contacts since the 4th grade and I have never been treated so dismissively when I complained that I couldn't read a computer (which is my JOB), and they didn't even test for close reading with their new prescription. read more

Before I found Look + See, I would put off my eye exams for years at a time because I always found them so unpleasant. About 5 years ago, I instead started going to Dr. Jerome, at the advice of a friend who gave a glowing review. I was not disappointed, and I've been back every year since. The staff is helpful, they run on schedule, the office is beautiful, the parking is free (and warm in the winter!), and the equipment is state-of-the art. Dr. Jerome is so friendly and does a great job explaining what is being done and why. I've never felt rushed through my appointment--she makes sure I understand everything and verifies that all of my questions (even the dumb ones!) have been answered. I'd been buying my glasses through cheaper venues for years and wondering why I always hated wearing them, when last year I finally decided to suck it up and spring for a pair of frames and lenses at Look + See. They're hella expensive, I won't lie, but a year later I'd say the extra expense was totally worth it. The Optician knew immediately why the frames I'd bought elsewhere weren't working for me, so there's something to be said for having someone with their level of expertise to help you find frames that look and fit great. She was infinitely patient as I deliberated between two different frames... took selfies with each pair... deliberated some more... and deliberated even more. I really appreciated her patience and guidance. The Prodesign Denmark frames I decided on are lightweight, stylish, and comfortable. I really can't recommend Look + See enough. I am so happy that while my annual eye exam used to be an anxiety-inducing chore, now it's something I look forward to as an opportunity to ensure my eyes continue to be well taken care of. read more

I came to Look + See for a few reasons. I needed to get my eyes checked, yeah, but more importantly, I needed (er, wanted) new glasses. Caitlin greeted me with a smile, and got me ready to see Dr. Gil. The downside: I had to wait about 30 minutes past my appointment time just to see the doctor. I know that's not unusual in the medical world, but it was frustrating nonetheless. Dr. Gil made up for it, though. She clearly knows what she's doing. She made me feel super comfortable (not always easy for me when it comes to a dr.'s office), and was as efficient as she could be without foregoing quality. Now for the fun part! One of the girls helped me try on, oh, ya know...20 pairs of frames (I'm a total perfectionist). I just couldn't find what I loved, cute as they all were. Finally, Caitlin stepped in with what she thought was the *perfect* pair of frames. I was skeptical, but tried them on obligingly. I loved them! And then, I pondered for a month. I probably went to try them on 3 more times (annoying, right?). They were super understanding, and when I finally decided to splurge on them they got me set up with their usual smiles and helpful advice. One of the coolest touches: biodegradable, refillable lens cleaner. For $2, you can refill your bottle (initial cost of $4 or $5), so you don't have to keep buying bottle after bottle. Also awesome? They will clean your lenses with an ultra-sonic system for free, as often as you want. Talk about customer service! Considering what I spent on frames + lenses, it feels pretty rockin' to hear the word free coming at you. Whether you need lenses, frames, contacts, or have some more serious concerns about your eyes, Look + See is the place to go. My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Jerome at Look+See for quite a few years now, and more recently our 3 year old son as well. She has always been very good at explaining things throughout the exams. She is also very good at addressing questions or concerns you might have. She was great with our 3 year old throughout his eye exam, he actually had fun! He barely even flinched when the drops went in to dilate his pupils. They also have a fun little kids play area for the little ones. It's definitely a family friendly clinic. The selection of frames is pretty top notch as well! The newish location along St. Anthony Main is fantastic. Free garage parking! We'll be seeing Dr. Jerome at Look+See indefinitely. No reason to look elsewhere for quality eye care. read more

They seem nice and the doctor took extra time to talk through my various tests and results.They're expensive, and that doens't stop them from trying to push products and services you didn't ask for. More important, they didn't listen to my own needs and experiences. I exclusively wear contacts, but that didn't stop my doctor from spending a large portion of our visit telling me that I should have "at least two pairs" of glasses. I get it. Sounds nice. But this was an out-of-pocket visit and I would have preferred that she trusted my intelligence and realized that I knew what glasses are for. I understood the consequences of becoming temporarily unable to wear contacts and I really wish she would have left me alone about it. I did not go there to buy glasses, I went there to get new contacts. I brought in boxes of the ones that worked for me. I wanted that brand, prescription and fit. I would have been thrilled if I could just order them without the hassle of an appointment, but I understand it's their job to verify my prescription. She gave me a very different -- much lower -- prescription. I told her that another doctor had done similar and I can't see leaves on trees. She dissuaded me from using the prescription that I know works for me. I got headaches. The fit didn't seem right. Everything was blurry - both near and far - and I was constantly blinking and squinting to try and make things right. I'm a busy mom/business owner/student in a 1-car family and was not able to shuttle back and forth to during their limited hours, so i did not ask to fix this right away. When I did call back, I was told that since the prescription was a little over 6 months old, I had to *Start all over* with a NEW contact lens fitting and assessment. Even though a prescription in Minnesota is supposed to last 2 years, I have NO recourse but to invest the time and money in starting all over again, just 8 months after my expensive out-of-pocket visit at this business. The desk staffs says "I'm sorry", but there's no evidence that they care about my situation at all: I started with a contact lens prescription that was expired but working just fine for me. I spent $500 to receive a sales pitch and then to be told that I don't know my own eyes. I have nothing to show for my money and hassle but an incorrect prescription and fit, and I have to start all over -- here or elsewhere. I know that I could have been more "on it" with regard to following up on their original bad advice, but I'm beyond frustrated at how happy they are to take (a lot of) money, and how "sorry" they are when they won't listen to their patients. If your needs are more straightforward, you may be happy there. I was not happy at all. read more

Not to brag or anything, but I have really good vision. It's like, one of the only physical traits that I hope I pass on to my kids (god help them if they end up with my before-braces teeth). Anyway the real reason I'm telling you/bragging at you is because I came to Look + See for more of a check up, rather than a need for lenses. It had just been MANY years since I'd seen an eye doctor. The location, wow. It recently moved down to cobblestoned St. Anthony Main and the space is beautiful. The glasses show area and the waiting area both have views of the Mississippi. Can't beat that. Dr. Jerome was great and very thorough. She's friendly and was nice enough to answer all of my "just curious" medical questions that I tend to ask at all doctors offices. (I like to know how the body works, guys.) They use a lot of fancy technology here too, including a full-eye digital imaging scan and a glaucoma test that does not feel like someone farted into your eye. No surprise puffs of air here! I likely won't be back very soon since I don't need to be, but I'd recommend this place to anyone who needs a new (or just better) eye doctor. read more

Has to be the best eye care center in Minneapolis. I live in Plymouth and driving to downtown for eye glasses seemed a stretch, but after looking at all the reviews - I felt it was worth it. This was my daughter's first optician visit and they made it very comfortable through the dilation and eye exams. Even I had my eye exams and they made it pretty good - they have some decent modern equipment to test + qualified folks who do a good job. Next - I had a budget to which I had to limit myself for the glasses and they worked with me in selecting frames within my budget. My daughter broke her frames within 2 days and they repair/replaced the frames for free ! I felt bad that they had to do it, but speaks of the excellent customer service they provide read more

I LOVE Dr. Jerome. Look + See is not like the shopping center eye care joints where you feel like you are pressured to purchase 18 pairs of glasses to get one free. They are very professional and helpful over in NE Mpls. I am blind as a bat...can't see. It is frustrating and the lovely people at Look + See took the time to find me the perfect glasses so I didn't look like a total dork. (Side note: when I was in the second grade my mother bought me giant pink glasses and my fear for the pink glasses is still in me. They do have pink glasses at Look + See but I had to look the other way and kindly say no thank you). Contacts are the same prices as other eye care places and glasses are a little bit more expensive but I have had my same pair for three years and not one issue. My last visit was a real hoot. My eyeball decided it doesn't like my contacts so Dr. Jerome got me hooked up with some steriods...can't wait to see how jealous my right eye will get of the ever so buff left eye. She even got me the information I need for Lasik and was knowledgeable of everything there is to know about Lasik. I left feeling calm about changing the state of my vision with Lasik. Went for my annual eye exam, only the second time going there and Sarah seemed to remember me. Now, I know she probably just read notes she took of my last visit, but I liked the personal attention anyway. When I got there for my appointment they were running 20 minutes late, now instead of having me just sit and wait they adjusted my current glasses and got some of the prep work done so as soon as Sarah was available I was in her chair. It made the 20 min seem like 5. Everything is always so painless when I go there, I ordered my contacts and had them in my mailbox in 4 days. nice! read more

I came here for a long overdue eye exam and possible contact... with contacts (shudder.) Everyone in the very modern, very chic office is super sweet and knowledgeable about everything. I had great help when poking through the glasses, and no one was put off when I flat out said I'm poor as heck but definitely need new specs. Molly is the wonderful office manager, and she totally is patient with people trying to put contacts in for the first time and is more than willing to let you be as swear-ful and frustrated as you need to be. Dr. Jerome is great and takes the time to ask you about your life a bit, and when I came back in for my contact fitting, she seemed to remember me and where I work, etc. I appreciate that she doesn't use those really harsh dilating drops, instead opting for ones that just do enough dilation to make an exam worthwhile. It certainly helped with going back out into the bright world, and I didn't have to wear those naff paper sunglasses things. She's also really good about not getting into your eyes' bubbles too much... I am a total baby and can actually faint if stuff gets too close to my eyes (probably from bad experiences as a kid,) but she's so calming and does things so professionally that I didn't even hyperventilate at all (a first, for sure.) I also like that they have excellent retinal camera screening, which makes me feel better since I know that everyone in my family pretty much has issues with their eyes later in life. Having proper screening now can mean avoiding things later, and Dr. Jerome definitely has all the bases covered. read more

These people were great. I visited on a Tuesday morning needing to get my Ray Bans fixed, was warmly greeted, helped immediately, the work was done quickly. They didn't charge me, even if the poor woman who was helping me to begin with cut her finger open fixing my shades. I can't say enough good things about the service I was provided at Look + See by Dr. Jerome and staff. It was (hands down) the most thorough eye exam I have ever received. I will be a loyal patient of theirs for years to come. Prior to Look + See, I had received annual eye exams at local Target Opticals and then once at Twin Lakes Eye Center. There was nothing wrong with the service I was provided at Target or Twin Lakes; however I had been dealing with a persistent eye problem for years and subsequently misdiagnosis from both places. That is until I saw Dr. Jerome at Look + See. Hence "the most thorough eye exam I have ever received." She narrowed in on my problem on my first appointment. I was fascinated to find that I have an eye disorder, not dry eyes or in need of reading glasses (Thanks, Target and Twin Lakes) but instead I needed every day glasses and a prism to correct this disorder. It's been 2 years and I'm still loving my Barton Perreira frames, so much in fact that I just got purchased another pair. My favorite part of the Look + See experience, beyond browsing their extensive and unique eyewear selection, is seeing Amy, one of the Opticians. She's super friendly and always takes great care of my delicate frames. It can be hard to articulate the pain or pressure points that can come from wearing glasses but Amy is always on the same page. She knows the nuances of making a slight adjustment, it's like talking to a glasses whisperer! Overall I always have a great experience when I stop in, everyone is professional. They're never pushy and really focus on letting you find the right frame. I have been going to Look + See for many year and I can't say enough good things about them. They are definitely professional but also *extremely* service oriented. They have gotten glasses for me and for my husband in record time when we were about to go traveling, helped me get glasses as inexpensively as possible when my vision kept changing post-concussion, and just today, leapt into action to get us our prescriptions so we could replace a pair of my husband's glasses that was misplaced. This even though we're in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a local optician will have to replace them. And they do all this with a friendly way. Genuine niceness and kindness guiding everything they go. New glasses are my favorite thing in the whole world! Nothing makes you feel more fancy than a shiny new pair. Look + See had a million to-die-for pairs as well. They had more than the typical metal or black frames. There was definitely a pair to fit anybody's face. Frame prices were standard, but lenses are a little bit on the steeper side. Love this place. I first chose this place because they were on my husband's insurance plan and they offered kids frames. Turns out my daughter didn't need glasses. Then, my insanely picky husband broke all three of his existing pairs and needed glasses soon. We went to seven (yes, 7!) different locations and Look + See was the only place that gave him exactly what he wanted at the price he wanted. When my eyes changed (only the slightest... tee hee) I wanted to look here, just to see if anything caught my eye. I don't see the optometrist here, but after searching through hundreds and hundreds of generic glasses at other optical shops, I stopped in at Look + See because I thought they might have some more 'youthful' options, as my mom would say. My dad and I were the only ones in the shop (he being the provider of my sweet new-frames-every-year insurance plan), and the two staff members were SO helpful. They suggested a few cool pairs of frames that would look good on me instead of handing me pair after pair of glasses I wouldn't even think about wearing. The two of them voted to help my indecisive self choose between two pairs. I got my glasses over a year ago, and I'm still obsessed with them - not even getting my free frames this year! read more

Clean clinic. Staff is friendly. However my appointment time and date got screwed up in their system. They said they could "work me in" but seemed rather frazzled/bothered by it. Now what really took me back was overhearing one of the doctors (dark hair, Dr. Jerome) complain about seeing a patient/patients. (perhaps it was me?!) I was waiting in my exam room and overheard her in a rather rude tone speaking to one of the staff members about how much of an "inconvenience" it was to squeeze someone in, (again... I believe she was referring to me..) complaining about adding patients in. I understand things can be frustrating but as a doctor I don't think you should be upset about helping a patient nor speaking about it where they can hear you! It totally rubbed me the wrong way and I will not be returning. I don't think it is respectful to speak to your staff in such matter let alone paying customers. read more

I came into L+S for the first time on beautiful St. Anthony Maine. I live quite close to the location, so I thought it was the perfect spot to have my new frames readjusted. Upon entering I was greeted with a very friendly and professional staff, who took care of my readjustments right away, with smiles, free of charge. After having gone to a number of conveniently priced places for eye exams, I think I might transition over to L+S for my exams, due to this drop-in visit. It seems strange to Yelp about a great eye exam experience. Then again, your eyes deserve the best care and attention...because they're important, dagnabbit. My appointment with Dr. Olson went as well as an eye exam could go; she was prompt, kind, affable, and thorough in helping me find better contacts. All of the Look + See staff are extremely helpful and patient; they get down to business and do so with finesse. Plus, they stock a killer selection of glasses that range in hipness and price - something for everyone! I choose to pay out of pocket at Look + See instead of utilizing one of my insurance-accepted choices for they're just that good. There's always something to be said about the vibe and character of a place, and Look + See certainly has an intimate, friendly, professional, and comfortable environment that will keep me coming back. I have been in and out of the office for about 2 months now because of my ever-changing contact prescription, and I actually look forward to going! The staff is very friendly and helpful, the office is bright and happy, the selection of frames is very hip, and Dr. Sarah is super caring and knowledgeable. The location is great (you can get a delicious coffee at Wilde Roast next door) and the magazine selection is good as well :) When I first came into the office, my eyes were very irritated by my contacts, apparently because they were an old design that was sucking the oxygen out of them. Dr. Sarah suggested a less harsh contact solution and worked with me every two weeks while my prescription was changing and my eyes were returning to health. I had an amazing experience there. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, and attentive to my needs. Dr. Olson was very sweet and warm, as with the entire staff there. She was very thorough, and explained areas of the eye she was looking at, making sure to make me feel as comfortable as possible. She recommend that I try the disposable contact lens and so far, I'm enjoying the clarity they're giving me. I will be going back in for a few weeks, and I can't wait! Their Optical Assistant, Sam, was very patient when I tried on the contact lenses for the first time. It took three times in both eyes. Afterwards, I was saw Dr. Olson again, to make sure the contacts were comfortable and that I could see well. Sam also helped find a gorgeous and stylish pair of glasses for me. It's a bit out of my price range, but I'm still currently debating if I should go and purchase them, regardless of my budget. I'm so glad to have found this place. Thank you! read more

Also, I was told that I would get a rebate for my contacts and applied four times with a rejection every single time using the documents provided to me from Look + See. Very nice eye clinic situated near the crossroads of Central, Hennepin and 5th Street NE. The receptionist and other employees there are very nice and helpful, and the set up of the place is clean, friendly, and beautiful. I haven't had the chance to look at the frames, but their contact lens prices (even with my sad, pathetic VSP) isn't that bad, actually. Kudos for that Lavender Magazine shout out (I see it by the Office Manager's desk). They also give free eyewear cleanings, so bring your filthy glasses and get 'em cleaned up! I've had both Dr. Jerome and Dr. Gill (who filled in for Dr. Jerome), and both were very nice. Dr. Jerome took the time to explain what each test was for. My eyes have been prodded, tested, shone a bright light on, and dilated so many times, but this is the first time someone's taken the time to explain why each test counts. Although she still didn't explain the mystery of how the heck optometrists figure out if "1 is better, or 2? 1...or 2? How about 3...or 4? Again, 3...or 4?" read more

What can I say other than I will never go to another optometry practice as long as Look + See is around.

This place is on top of their game. The last time I went to get my eyes checked was about 3 years ago. I had to get glasses, but they always messed with my balance and made me nauseous. When I went back to my old place, they weren't willing to address the issue without me paying for everything a second time. At the time, I couldn't afford that so I just kept the awful glasses and only wore them when I absolutely needed them (which was rare). Ive been getting headaches recently, so I forced myself to give this another try. I am new to Minneapolis, so I went on yelp and read some amazing reviews so I decided to go with them. Everyone in the office was extremely friendly and helpful. The office is clean and they have up-to-date technology. The doctor was phenomenal. She determined that my script was definitely too strong from the last place and determined that I still had a lazy eye from when I was a child (something no other eye Dr has mentioned to me since I was bout eight or nine. I was impressed with the fact she was willing to take the time (about 10-15mins) to "tire out" my eyes to discover this. As far as the eye wear selection, they do have a fair selection. Just FYI, the price range did vary greatly. I was unable to find a pair, but I was looking for something with color that looked right on my face; they just didn't have any in my size. However, I will have to say that I felt no pressure while I was looking at the eye wear and the worker who was helping me gave me honest feedback on what looked right on my face and what didn't. That alone is impressive. She even told me to let her know what I ended up buying elsewhere so they can try to incorporate styles like that for other people like me in the future I highly recommend this place. read more

I just started going to Look and See and I love the place. They offer a lot of services that my other eye doctor didn't (like taking a picture of your eye and doing a different test in place of that one that blows air into your eye...sorry for the lack of terminology). The doctor also noticed that my contacts that I had been wearing for the past 5 years or so were not the correct shape for my eye. She had me come in a second time to make sure the contacts she ordered fit my eyes correctly, and now I can see much better. I have had my prescriptions filled at Look and See a couple of times and I agree with many of the other reviews - the service is friendly, great selection, nice ambiance in the store. However, my most recent experience has shown me how incompetent they are at handling insurance. In short, if you are paying out of pocket this might be a nice shop for you. But I do not recommend walking in with an insurance card because they do not know what they're doing. read more
