We each started with an empanada which was pretty good, but not outstanding. There were two fish items on the menu so we each ordered one, but were both given the same - the "Lina". Not sure if it was a communication error or if the only had the one and figured we wouldn't know the difference (which we didn't, we actually thought they were different until we got the bill, even though they looked the same). The fish was really just okay. Being in Chile, I was hoping the seafood would be great, but it just wasn't. A bit salty and fishy, but otherwise not too flavorful. Disappointing. But it wasn't bad. The service was okay also; a bit slow to take our order but once they did our food came out quickly. It was only after we were done and working on finishing our bottle of wine that they just seemed to disappear. We had to hunt someone down to pay the bill. All in all, just okay. I probably wouldn't go back, but then again there aren't a whole lot of options in the area.

I would love a dipping sauce, but this doesn't seem to be part of Chilean culture... Steak with eggs and fries: Good steak and nice seasoned fries. It's a very hearty portion and tasted good. Again, I would love something like a pepper sauce to go with it, but that's just me. Crab cake w/ shrimp: My mom really liked this dish, she barely spoke during dinner! Merengue with walnuts/fruit: This was light, airy, and not too sweet. A great dessert after a heavy dinner.

(Beef, potatoes, squash and corn soup) I loved this dish. It was perfect for a cold night. I didn't think I was going to eat all the beef but it was so tender and delicious. I loved it. Plateada a la cacerola - muy deliciosa (beef and mushroom risotto) I loved the mushroom risotto. I couldn't stop eating it. Pollo y arroz - bien! (Fried chicken and rice) Papas fritas - bien! (French fries were good too) Dessert - chocolate soufflé and ice cream - really good! Overall, this place seemed like an authentic Chilean restaurant. It felt like it was owned by a family. If this was somewhere in LA, I would 100% use it as a party venue. They have bottles of wine adorning the walls, and it is designed with a rustic charm. The back outdoor patio is gorgeous, and there was an event going on there the night we dined there. Outside of the private event, the restaurant was pretty empty except for us and 2 other tables. I gather that it's a hard place to fill, so the prices need to be a bit on the higher side. All of the food is imported (mostly from Italy). The ground pepper had a spice to it that is amazing - be sure to ask for some on our salad and pasta if you like it a bit spicy. I had the seafood pasta which was good and had a fair amount of seafood, but could have used a bit more flavor. Adding the pepper helped. Because we were still hungry after each having a pasta dish and sharing a salad, we ordered an appetizer made of small stuffed peppers, which was very good (but small). Still hungry, we each ordered a dessert. I had chocolate ice cream that came out with like 3 scoops.. the most I've ever seen at a fancy restaurant like this. That sufficiently stuffed me. My bf had an amazing lemon dessert that was served like a piece of cake with layers of lemon sorbet and wedding cake. The best thing there for sure. We shared a bottle of the local Chamran Carmenere which was good but not great, but great for the price. We didn't eat at Vino Bello, which is the one in all the guide books so I can't compare, but I highly enjoyed our visit to La Famiglia.
