Nestled in the heart of Madrid, Restaurante Los Montes de Galicia offers an unforgettable dining experience that masterfully blends traditional Spanish flavors with modern culinary artistry. They don't enforce dress codes ( making the guests feeling uneasy) as we were pretty causally dressed and still were given a very warm welcome unlike some French restaurant that wanted to enforce their style upon us. One of the standout elements of our visit was the exceptional service, led by Juan Jose, whose expertise and passion for his work truly elevated our meal. He had the patience of a saint while answering our questions and as well us going back and forth with our choices and he didn't bat an eyelid nor roll his eyes, a true hallmark of an exceptional host. He didn't just serve us, he shared the ingredients behind each dish with such enthusiasm that it felt like we were partaking in a gastronomic journey through Galicia itself. It definitely made our experience that much more enriching. The menu at Los Montes de Galicia is a celebration of the best that Galicia has to offer, with some delightful twists. We began with the pulled croaker with citrus sauce and flying fish caviar a beautifully balanced dish, with the light and delicate fish complemented by the tangy citrus and the burst of flavor from the caviar. It was a refreshing start that set the tone for the meal. We followed that with a salad of crab, tomato, and avocado mousse with black trumpet fish roe, which was a vibrant, refreshing combination. The sweetness of the crab, the creamy avocado mousse, and the saltiness of the roe made for a wonderfully layered and exciting dish. Absolutely loved it. The sole with lemon butter followed, a classic done to perfection silky, tender fish in a luscious butter sauce that was both rich and light at the same time along with the sautéed peppers and onions made it fun to chomp through. Juan was kind enough to clean it for us and made it for a fun eating exercise. Then, there was the cod in mayonnaise slab over a bed of spinach, which was both inventive and delicious. The cod was perfectly cooked, flaking beautifully under the creamy mayonnaise, and the spinach ( dehydrated and crisped) added a subtle earthiness that grounded the dish. To end the evening, we indulged in the Galician cheesecake, which was nothing short of heavenly. The rich, velvety texture of the cheesecake was perfectly balanced with a tangy sweetness. It was served with a homemade confit of passion fruit that added an exotic touch, bringing a burst of tropical flavor that paired wonderfully with the creaminess of the dessert. All in all a job very well done to the chefs and cooks at Los Montes de Galicia !! While we read good things online, this restaurant was incredibly noisy. The food and drinks were pretty good, especially the risotto. However, it took FOREVER to get the check--over 30 minutes after asking the host and other servers to give it to us so we could leave and be on our way. Our waiter was too busy with different tables, making us feel like we were not one of the locals and, often, a second thought. The restaurant inside had many big groups, including one big table. Two customers at the table brought their two large dogs to dinner with them inside, which was not ideal for our dining experience. The cocktails and wine selection were exactly what you'd expect in a fine dining establishment. Anthony was the general manager on the night we went there and he personally attended to our every need. Honestly, he could be the general manager of the finest restaurant on planet Earth. You won't find one better. He was funny, engaging, and his recommendations (in English!) were spot on. We were in a party of 8, and every single person in our group said this was a top 3 dining experience (and this was an "experienced" group!). For our anniversary, my boyfriend surprised me with dinner at Los Montes de Galicia. I couldn't think of a better place to spend the night-- it was a magical experience and now has a special place in my heart. Our fantastic sever, Juan-José, started us off with wine and croquetas for appetizers. It was like eating, quite literally, the platonic ideal of a croqueta. Each bite melted in my mouth and was so rich and savory. For a main, I ordered the bacalao and my boyfriend ordered the tuna tartare (Juan-José actually allowed him to sample the tuna beforehand to adjust the spice to his liking). The fish was perfectly done and drizzled in a delicious cheese sauce. Dessert deserves its own review. We shared the French toast with cookie butter ice cream (if you get nothing else at Los Montes de Galicia, get this!!!). It was just decadent-- I've never had anything like it. Our server even threw in a free piece of cheesecake when he learned it was our anniversary. It was just the right amount of sweetness and struck the perfect balance between dense and fluffy. I am so glad I had the experience of dining here while I'm in Madrid. If I'm lucky I'll make it back before I leave! read more

The reviews were wonderful, so we gave it a try- It lived up to it's reputation- Perfect service, wonderful food, great wine, and they treat you like you are truly special! The manager Tony helped us, as he spoke perfect English- an American by birth- been in Madrid most of his life. What a gentleman. His patience with our questions was off the charts. The wine was so inexpensive, but wonderful! I even had a second glass! We had the fried artichokes, seafood soup and a cold crab soup , and pork ribs- all delicious.but no room for dessert! but .... the complimentary cheesecake was wonderful. Truly one of the best meals of my life here. We were treated like superstars and everything was incredible. This restaurant was listed as #2 among all restaurants in Madrid on Tripadvisor, which is extremely impressive and very well deserved. Staff was extremely friendly and professional but more importantly the food was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We also got a couple of small plates for free. The wine that the manager recommended was very tasty. Some things we tried were the croquetas, artichokes, secreto, empanada, and more. For dessert we shared the bailey's french toast with homemade ice cream as well as the galician cheesecake which was incredible. The ambiance and vibe were super cool and it felt super fun and trendy. We don't speak Spanish, so were assigned to Mario who did an amazing job at recommending interesting options that were all delcious. Mario was extremely personable and such a pleasure to chat with. We had fried artichoke tempura, cod donuts, hake lasagne, beef tartare with bone marrow, iberian pork feathers, chocolate mouse, Spanish-stle french toast with lotus cookie ice cream, and galician cheesecake. All of our dishes tasted amazing. We were thinking we were going to get typical smaller tapas portions, but it every dish was a good size, and we might have over-ordered a bit. Came here to celebrate an engagement. The service is still impecable, our waiter was named Anthony and he was so attentive. We ordered the buñuelos de bacalao which were similar to croquetas but lighter/ better, the lupina (this was my favorite thing we ordered it came out whole, was perfectly seasoned but beware of bones), secreto ibérico , solomillo, and for dessert the torrija which was SO GOOD!!!!!!!!! This is a must order. Next time I would probably get two fish or another starter instead of two meats because it was a bit heavy for just the three of us. Throughout the evening we were given various recommendations on apps, drinks and desserts and all were delicious. We were also given additional items to try that we did not order including foie, salmon cream cheese dip, the house cheesecake and a bottle of wine. The menu is extensive and they obviously are riding the Tripadvisor wave so everything is over the top for not that great product. What a lovely experience! Our server Jesus was so friendly! He helped with recommendations on what to order for our group, and what food is too much. He also gave us complimentary cod donut dish! Jesus definitely made the evening even more enjoyable for us with his personality! This definitely wasn't the best meal I ate on my European trip, but it was solid and Jesus was so much fun. If for no other reason, you should go to dine with him and listen to his travel tales! He grew up in Long Beach, and speaks excellent English!! Beginning course was a bread with roasted red pepper and strawberry mousse that was delicious. Scallop carpaccio: the carpaccio came with a mango sauce on top and black things that I'm not sure what they were, but the mango on top of the scallops were delicious. Anchovies: anchovies are not my favorite, it was a little tart with the tomato. Cod fish donuts (donut holes): crispy exterior with a "mushy" cod interior that was topped with some aioli. I got a bite of salty cod, but then again in the same donut hole I got a less salty cod? The dish wasn't as consistent as I would've liked, but still good. Grilled octopus: cooked to perfection! Not chewy at all, one of the best octopus' I've had this trip! Although it was a little too olive oil heavy for me, it was better once I rubbed some of the olive oil off on my plate it was better. Sea bass: the sea bass was cooked really well, but I still got a bit of a fishy aftertaste with the fish. It comes with a Szechuan sauce that was too sweet for me but the green herb sauce was delicious. Iberian "feathers": this was delicious! The meat was a little overdone for my taste, but the exterior was so crispy and the teriyaki sauce was so flavorful! French toast with cookie ice cream: the ice cream WAS SO GOOD! It reminded me of cookie butter ice cream! The French toast was ok, I've had better on my trip but the combination was amazing. Lemon cava sorbet: one of our group members is lactose intolerant and Jesus had the kitchen make us each a lemon cava flute. The lemon was very tart, I would've preferred a berry instead of the lemon mixed with the cava. But it was such a nice gesture! Patxaran: jesus brought us out a digestive drink we hadn't tried yet called Patxaran. It was a little licorice-y, but not too strong. read more

We loved this restaurant. the grilled octopus "pulpo a la gallega" was the best I have ever had. The croquetas were amazing!! The "carrillera de ternera" which is braised beef cheek melted in our mouths. It sounds odd, but trust me, its delicious. It had a flavorful gravy and was served on mashed sweet potatoes. We also tried the Lubina fish grilled and it was delicate and scrumptious. The cheese cake was light and fluffy and the Albariño wine went perfectly with our food and they gave us a second pour on the house. Our waiters Manuel and Alex went above and beyond. In a word, wow! We showed up early for our Good Friday lunch rez and the place was packed since this place specializes in seafood. The manager Anthony treated us to drinks at the bar due to a short delay in getting our table ready. The Galician octopus, sea bass and monkfish were all terrific and perfectly prepared. The waiter wouldn't let us leave without trying their cod fish donut appetizer so those were complimentary as well and delicious! We were so stuffed that we planned to skip dessert but Anthony insisted we try their homemade cheesecake, two slices on the house. To top it off, on our way out, they gave us a bottle of their house white wine which we had enjoyed with our meal. One of the very best restaurant experience we've ever had. A couple was celebrating wedding anniversary so they decorated the whole table & their dessert with rose petals. Galicia octopus was very tender. The feather pork was surprisingly crispy. Wagyu beef burger was not my cup of tea unfortunately. The patty just too smooth? Make sure to make room for the amazing desserts. Cheesecake was not the heavy creamy type. More like egg pudding? Everything, from Francisco's tableside presence and humor while trying to teach us travelers Spanish, to the constant attention, to the detail in the service was impeccable. We spent time reviewing restaurants on Trip Advisor looking for recommendations And we found the very best in this restaurant. (Added confirmation was the Concierge at our Hotel said we made an excellent choice!) The level of service from Mario was second to none. Timing was truly perfect. We ordered their Clams and Cod Doughnuts for our appetizer and both were fabulous. We had no idea what to expect from the Cod Doughnuts and wow... the more we looked around the more we saw most if not all tables enjoying the Cod. For our Main Course my wife had the Norway Lobster and without a doubt the most flavorful Lobster she has ever had! So sweet and truly melted in her mouth. I had the Tuna Tartaki and so good, so fresh and the two sauces they provided were full of flavor. (Nothing like what we get in the USA). We wanted a glass of Wine after our cocktails and so the Manager (Anthony) helped us. Anthony asked us a few questions and then made a recommendation which we weee all to happy to follow along. He poured a small amount for us each to try, we loved it. Then... he filled up our glasses and said it was on the house! Then our desert... when I made reservations I was asked if we were celebrating anything special and I said our belated (Covid) Spain Anniversary trip.
