It exceeds all of our expectations and is reasonably priced compared to others in the area. Here are a few of our favorite parts about VVCC. 1. Structure! Previous schools would switch out teachers depending on how many children were in class that day. Which left my daughter feeling insecure in her environment. VVCC reliably has the same teachers daily no matter the class size. 2. Cleanliness! Hand washing is prioritized upon check in. Before my daughter can join the class, the school asks that I take her potty and to wash her hands. She has not been sick at all this year. At previous schools she got hand foot and mouth, stomach bugs, and respiratory infections. 3. Flexibility! My daughter is crazy hyper and strong willed. Her teacher works with my daughter concerning her struggles and gives her different options to help her cope in the classroom. At other schools she was forced to be just like the other kids or leave. They really work with the children individually while still teaching them discipline. 4. Lots of family events! I never knew any other parents or friends at other schools. Here, we have family friends because there are meet and greets, harvest festivals, book readings, and holiday programs. 5. Learning letters! I love the curriculum they use to introduce and teach the pre-K class letters. They assign animals to a letter to help the children remember and my daughter uses that daily as she does activities at home. 6. Spanish immersion! The pre-k class gets Spanish lessons on Fridays and my daughter is picking up so quick! 7. Healthy snacks that change for diversity! 8. Great toys that are changed out weekly! She said the bond that those kids have is like nothing else. They look out for each other and truly have each others backs. They start highschool with confidence and knowing who they are. There is a lot of parent participation opportunities which intimidated me a little. I'm a full time working mom with very little flexibility however attending the after hours mixers has allowed me to meet other parents who ARE available to work in the classrooms and attend the field trips etc. I constantly get texts with pics of my daughter and cute stories of what happened in class etc. It just goes back to the community of it all. Mass at school has literally brought me to tears. Seeing the confidence of the older kids doing readings in front of the whole school and parents/grandparents. Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. I was very upfront before enrolling that my daughter was coming from a Montessori environment, where children guide their own experience. I explained that transitioning into a more structured setting might take time and patience. Instead, almost immediately, I began receiving frequent calls about "disruptive" behavior. We're talking about a three-year-old having tantrums while adjusting to a completely new environment, new structure, and a recent move. That shouldn't be surprising--it should be expected and supported. What made this more frustrating was that I was repeatedly asked to leave work to address these situations. I'm fortunate to be in a leadership role with flexibility, but most working parents wouldn't be able to accommodate that level of disruption. I went in person to observe and even requested video. What I saw did not match the level of concern being communicated. It was a child expressing "I don't want to do this," not aggressive or alarming behavior. It looked like a normal adjustment period--not something that warranted the level of escalation we were experiencing. After less than a month, the school essentially gave up. I was offered a refund, and it was made clear that my child "wasn't a fit." That was disappointing. As educators, I would expect a willingness to work with a child--especially one coming from a different learning style. This could have been a success story: helping a child transition and grow. Instead, it felt like if a child doesn't immediately fit into their structure, they're not supported. I even reached out to her previous Montessori school, where she had been for over a year, to see if they had observed any of the behaviors being reported. They were genuinely surprised and confirmed they had not. During a meeting with the director, we discussed possible support strategies like peer shadowing. One teacher even referred to my daughter as "a leader," which stood out to me. If that's the case, it's even more disappointing that there wasn't an effort to guide and support that personality rather than dismiss it. Looking back, I also reviewed other feedback, and I will say this: the few lower-rated reviews aligned very closely with our experience. That's something I wish I had paid more attention to. If your child thrives in flexibility or is coming from a Montessori-style environment, I would strongly encourage asking detailed questions about how transitions are handled here. This school may work well for children who naturally fit into a very structured setting, but that was not our experience. If you're raising an independent, expressive child and don't want them forced into a rigid mold, this may not be the right environment. See Glassdoor.com for proof of this. I truly feel sorry for the actual tutors. Here's how it went from the beginning to the end: During the sales pitch, they introduce tutors called "Clinicians". Sounds official, right? So what training/accreditation do these "Clinicians" have? Do they go to postgraduate school for 2 or 3 years and obtain a teaching credential? If only. A high school diploma and two weeks (two weeks! Employees at call centers get more training than that. Two weeks of slipshod training at Lindamood Bell makes you a "Clinician". My wife and I really should have known better, after their hard sell first meeting. It was reminiscent of a time share sales pitch. The pitch is very hard sell, but very seductive, they break open binders of data and talk a great game. Once you enroll, there is absolutely no follow through. The poor tutors are too stressed, overworked and underpaid, as mentioned. The facility in the front is beautiful. When you enroll, and your child actually gets into the back of the facility where all the "schooling" takes place, it's dirty, with cheap, rickety furniture, stained walls. But we were willing to overlook all that at first if our son actually receive the kind of education they promised. So what of the "education"? You could do this for free. It was just like free curriculum you could download from a wide variety of sources. It was so bland, generic, uninspired. It seemed like watered down high school curriculum. Save yourself a lot of grief and seek the wide variety of curriculum available online for special needs kids for 1% of what you would waste here. So, to wrap up, $24,000 later, after my son wasted an year here, in this pseudo-school. My son even complained that he did not enjoy it, didn't learn anything of value (Their "Economics" curriculum was clearly downloaded from some generic site). There were other special needs kids with antisocial behavior, and that's fine, but Linda Mood Bell allows those kids to run rampant and interfere/pester other students. It was a zoo some days. There were not very many students at all, and I can see why.
