I never realized I've experience Los Padres National Forest a few times in my life until I looked at a map this weekend lol. I went to a tennis academy in Ojai when I was in high school and it bordered the forest, 2-3 years ago I hiked to Tar Creek near Fillmore and that's in the Los Padres National Forest, and this past week I went backpacking to Willett Hot Springs which is also in this national forest! Tar Creek is now closed to the public due to condor nesting, but from what I remember when I hiked the area, it was pretty awesome with some good cliff jumping spots. Sespe River Trail to Willett Hot Springs was awesome too! This area has definitely been affected by the California drought though. There's like no water in the Sespe Creek except for some spots here and there that are spring fed water coming from the ground. It's beautiful out here though! Any lover of nature would appreciate this area. Not too far from the big cities, yet when you're here you feel disconnected from the world.

Beautiful, desolate, mountainous, a hiker's dream, lots of wildflowers is how I would describe it! We were just driving through to take the scenic route to Ojai and am so glad we did. Be sure to have a full tank of gas, snacks and water, just in case. Beware of many sharp curves, high elevation with steep drop offs (no guard rails in some areas) and many cyclists and motorcycle riders sharing the road. It was neat to see trees growing right out of the rocks in some mountain areas. I am sure landslides happen here all the time but the road was well maintained and smooth on this date, clear of rocks/boulders. Lots of places to park off the road at certain points for photo ops. We were on the lookout for animals but it was a hot day - we only counted several birds and one cute chipmunk!

It's a forest. Lots of trees. Lots of rocks. Please be safe with your fire. It's very flammable.

We took the Tumamait trail to the weather station at the Mount Pinos summit and picnicked at the top by the Iwhihinmu plaque. After returning to the first fork in the trail, we then hiked to the meadow and back. Altogether, this was a full day of beautiful hiking. The crisp mountain air, pine trees, high elevation buckwheat and lichen meadows, and views were all fantastic. As other reviewers have said, the hikes aren't intensely strenuous, but they can be long if you want them to be. Both Tumamait and the meadow paths are partially shaded with sunny patches. Going to the meadow, most of the hike is a small downhill slope, so keep in mind it will be mildly strenuous coming back up. For hiking, my friend and I did not have a parking pass nor could we find a place to buy one at the Nordic Station parking lot (the drive up the mountain to the lot is lovely, by the way!) We were slightly concerned, but nothing happened. No ticket, no ranger presence. Our visit was in late April, 2022. Spending time in this powerful Chumash site was wonderful. We stayed on the mountain peak for at least an hour feeling the wind whip our faces, enjoying our picnic and the views, looking at the trees and plants and snow, and enjoying being at the "top of the world." There weren't many people around, and we said hello to everyone we passed. It felt convivial and isolated at the same time. A pretty cool combination.

BEST WEDDING VENUE EVER!…read more My husband and I dreamed of a wedding where everyone could stay together onsite, immersed in nature, with no worries about driving after a night of fun, and Camp Osito Rancho made that dream a reality. Our families stayed in the health center, lodge, and electrified cabins, while our friends embraced the adventure of summer cabins and tents. The venue offers so many stunning spaces, from the spacious dining hall for meals to the stage/amphitheater with fire pits--perfect for s'mores and late-night stories. We exchanged vows at the top of a hill near the outdoor pavilion, with a gorgeous backdrop of pine trees and a view of Big Bear Lake in the distance. We were able to offer our guests camp activities like archery and a pool day, as well as had room to setup other activities like craft tables and lawn games. The biggest perk was the complete freedom to choose our own vendors, allowing us to create a truly personalized experience (huge shoutout to Scratch Kitchen for catering--our guests still rave about the food). We spent a year making signs, collecting décor, buying solar lights, and crafting to transform this Girl Scout camp into a full-blown wedding festival. If you're up for planning the details, this venue is the ultimate blank canvas. Last but not least, the Camp Osito Rancho team is absolutely amazing. A huge thanks to Angel for her help throughout the year, Ryan for his help throughout the weekend, and to Gerardo for the tour that sold us from the start. For a wedding that feels like an unforgettable getaway, this place is pure magic
