Los Palominos is really the hidden gem of Mt. Pleasant dining. My girlfriend and I have been to nearly every restaurant in town and this is far and away our favorite, and the place we go for any special occasion. Located a little out of the way in a small strip mall on Pickard, Palominos is a family owned and operated Mexican restaurant with great food and reasonably cheap prices. The waitstaff is always polite and attentive, and while you may wait a little for your food during busy peak hours everything always comes hot and freshly made. Going off-peak is our favorite, and we'll usually get our food in under ten minutes. The homemade chips and salsa are a great way to start your meal, just be careful not to fill up because everything on the menu is outstanding. This is the only restaurant I've ever been to where I can promise the ENTIRE menu is delicious. Over the years I made it a point to try something new every visit (except for dishes containing seafood) and I was thoroughly satisfied with literally everything. The extra sides/appetizers are all great, from the tomatillo hot sauce to the fresh, creamy guacamole. And again, everything is fresh and hand-made on location. The entrees are reasonably diverse, with a nice selection of classics like burritos (Burrito California is my girlfriend's fave), sizzling fajitas, quesadillas, etc. and a less common dishes like Chile Verde and an awesome sandwich served on Mexican tellera bread. Lunch specials are from 11 to 3 and are a bit smaller and cheaper than dinner. If you're looking to mix things up, ordering a number of items from the a la carte menu is a great way to ensure that you get exactly what you want. I highly recommend both the chile relleno (delicious!) and the chimichanga, which is crispy deep-fried deliciousness with an amazing cheese sauce on it. Deserts are good, and you can get a free one on your birthday! Also featured are a decent selection of bottled beers, both Mexican and domestic, as well as margaritas (try the raspberry), and Mexican sodas like Jarritos. In summary, you really can't go wrong when you go to Los Palominos. If you've never been, go today! read more

YUM! Found it on Yelp, soooo glad we did. The margaritas seemed a little weak, but that was the only complaint. The salsa and chips that are brought out right from the start were delicious with the perfect zip. My vegetarian dish was amazing (fajitas). Me and my family love it here. When you walk in a waiter or waitress brings you to a table and soon brings out chips and salsa. They will shortly come and ask for drinks (I recommend the Jaritos) they will bring you drinks and ask for your food options and bring it to you. The food is divine and somehow they make the American food taste Mexican, it's great. If you want desserts you can get some delicious things. Once you are done you can buy a grocery bag of the chips and large fountain pop cup of salsa to go . The service is friendly and the food is always hot and fresh! read more

First time here! Bf had enchiladas and I have a chicken/shrimp and rice combo. Chips and Salsa were good. Prices were very reasonable. Portions were large and very tasty. I also had a margarita on the rocks and it was very generous, good tasting, and very reasonably priced. Decorations and overall ambiance are very plain but, the food made up for that. My only complaint of the evening was that our server was very inattentive. Had to flag down another server to have ours even come to our table. Overall, very full and happy. Stopped in to Los Palominos before seeing a show at The Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort after finding the restaurant on Yelp. We were looking for something close to our hotel and reasonably priced. We felt the experience was worthy of 3.5 Stars, but I'm in the habit of rounding down when I'm toying with a half number. We enjoyed the chips and salsa and finished them right away. Our food came quick, and I thought my chimichanga was good, and the beans/rice were a little bland. My beef enchilada was about average as well. My boyfriend ordered the Arroz con pollo which was basically stir fry vegetables and chicken over rice. He also thought it was about average. He REALLY loved the hard shell chicken tacos though. He even considered getting some to go for later. The entree portion sizes were just right, but if you are extra hungry, I'd recommend ordering at least one or two a la carte items with your meal. read more

Best Mexican in mount pleasant by far. It's my favorite all around restaurant in town. I always get the enchiladas rancheras with the pork. It's awesome!! Cheesy and saucy and the pork is tender. The burrito California is if I'm real hungry as it has everything you'd want in one burrito rolled up with cheese and red sauce. Also I love the Chile rellenos as an appetizer or as a meal. For those that don't love everything Mexican as I do, try the quesadillas! They are cheesy and cooked perfectly every time. I've been going here since they opened, over ten years ago and the staff is amazing! Very good family feel here. Even when they're packed, which is often, they take time to see how you're doing while ensuring that your food comes out fast, hot, and as ordered. Very very good! I was in town last week and stopped in for dinner. I ordered the sampler dinner where you get a little bit of everything. My favorite was the chili rellenos. The beans and rice were also very tasty along with the taco. Only thing I didn't like was their chips and salsa. The chips were unsalted and the salsa was bland. This place is a MUST! Amazing queso blanco cheese sauce. Shrimp Diablo is great. Margaritas on the rocks are top notch -- hands down the best I've ever had (they make their own sour mix!)... I tried this place recently after I have lived in California for a few years. Either my palate has improved or this place has hit the bottom. The place is terribly dim and dreary. The menu is obscenely loaded with selections.....and that can only mean most of the food cannot be all that fresh. The chile rellenos may be reheated and are piled with ground beef! A strange addition if you ask me. The tacos are stuffed with ground beef too! This is not Mexican food, this is Taco Bell style! The beans are not creamy, they are plain watery. My bean burrito was like a deflated tube soaked wet with some sort of red sauce that likely was from a can. Your better with taco bell if you ask me. At least there you don't have any expectations for authenticity. read more

This was my 3rd time here (Im new to the area and still learning my way around) each time the food and service has gotten worse and worse! There were 3 other tables of people while we were there. The service was so slow that our over cooked tasteless food was cold by the time we received it. My chimichanga was burnt on the outside and the meat had no spices just meat, the guacamole was so jalapeno hot that it wasnt edible. My husband had a taco salad and the deep fried tortilla bowl was over fried. Mothers food was over cooked and tasteless. I have found another Mexican restaurant in the area that we will go to that has better service and yummy food. No reason to waste our money or time. read more

The California burrito was excellent, never had one taste like that. The shrimp fajita was good but the shrimp should have been seasoned. Will go there again if in the neighborhood. Our family picked this Tex-Mex restaurant over the glut of chain options in the area. It's in a strip mall off of the main drag. We pulled in at prime dinner time, 6pm on a Saturday night, to a parking lot full of pick up trucks. After the 2.5 hour drive from metro Detroit, we were hangry and we took this as a good sign. We walked in to a bare bones casual restaurant that hadn't been updated since ... 1970? 1980? ... that was slammed with locals enjoying $3 margaritas and heaping plates of food. The atmosphere was not about the restaurant -- but like so many good "divey" places -- it was about the people; who of course wouldn't be there unless the food was worthy. The service was on point. Fast, friendly and competent. We were greeted. Offered our choice of table or booth. And before we were all seated a huge bowl of freshly fried hot chips and handmade salsa was placed on our table. Perfect! The waitress, Michelle, was efficient and friendly. No frills. The staff is wearing jeans and T-shirt's. But they're serving a lot of people really excellent food quickly and accurately with a smile. Again, perfect. Everyone seemed to be happy to be there and the staff all worked as a team. The dinner portions here are huge. Honestly, I didn't see a skinny person in the place, including us, which again we took as a good sign. We were right; the food was great. Superb ground beef tacos loaded with meat and topped with white cheese. Ample sour cream atop the taco salad, no extra charge. Loads of avocado in the massive California burrito. My daughter liked her plain kids meal cheeseburger also. The happy hour margaritas? Not the watered down kind you get at the chains! For 2 large entrees, guacamole, a kiddie entree, soft drinks for 3 plus 2 margaritas our bill was $41. That was the best part. Great service. Great food. Non pretentious atmosphere. Happy people. This place has awesome food. I'm a vegetarian and I've had their veggie fajitas and the vegetarian combo that included; a bean burrito, a cheese enchilada, and a bean tostado. Both we very very good, especially with their cheese dip. Take out is also quick and comes with chips and salsa. However I'm giving them 5 stars because each time I've sat in their restaurant the service has been subpar. It takes a long time to be sat, once we asked a worker standing by the door if we had to put our name down on a lost sense they were busy, and they just said "I don't know". Also both times our waiter has not paid attention to our drinks, often we had to flag down other random staff members to refill our drinks for us. If they could get better customer service this could easily be 5 stars for me. read more

Not fancy, but good mexican food for a good price. I eat here all the time and there were a couple times when they over cooked the chips or something, but the vast majority of the food there is good. There is a debate at my workplace weather this place or Los Azteca's is better. I would say they are mostly the same. A couple dishes are better at the other place, but the prices are higher there as well. read more

We went here because we couldn't find the promised Taco Bell off the highway...wow was it way better! I'm a vegan, and we had a vegetarian waitress who was knowledgeable about all the ingredients.
