Humble and good comfort food. On a cold day, a bowl of Caldo de Res can keep you warm. Los Portales makes a decent caldo, with lots of chunky beef and veggies. The broth is very light, but accompanying cilantro, onions, jalapeños, lime, rice, chips and salsa can punch up the flavors. The caldo is low sodium so add salt to your own taste. The dining room here is painted with scenic murals of a Mexican village, adding to the charm. The establishment is a little tired, however. It's a fair trade for good, affordable food. read more

There's a $15 percent extra charge to every bill rediculous I got 2 tacos a torta steak and rice my bill was $60. Chips and salsa was cold . No one greets you when you walk in . Food came out fast but was not good . Steak was chewey . Tacos were unseasoned but the torta bread was really fresh . read more

I went to Los Portales for the first time yesterday and I would absolutely come back. For only $6-$8 you get a lot of food at very good quality. I honestly gave a 5 star review because I legitimately couldn't find anything wrong with the place. It was delicious and fresh and I'm definitely coming back. read more

These guys came out, and catered a graduation part for 50-75 people! And the food was absolutely AMAZING!!! I've had a lot of Mexican food, from a lot of different places, but this is the best! The food was low quality. The refried beans were like soup the rice was super mushy and the flavor of both items were off. We couldn't even tell what kind of meat was in our burritos both were filled with gristle. We only ordered burritos but we're given meals instead which was much more expensive so meal that would of cost us a little more than 20 dollars turned out to be over 40 dollars for food we ended up throwing away read more

Known around these parts as "Los Portales", you will not find better Mexican food. Very authentic cuisine. You cannot beat their quacamole. I have never been disappointed with the food or service here. Big steak burritos with beans and rice are my favorite. Awesome tacos and quesadillas too. Great bang for your buck. There are at least 8 Mexican joints in The Heights and 6 of them are lined up on Chicago Rd. Los Portales is the best among them. The place is squeaky clean and the food is great. Portions are quite substantial and all platters are full dinners. Their refried beans are different than in other places with a "rosy" color and a great flavor, no idea what their recipe is but I like it. I've had three of their seafood menu items and been very happy with all of them. If you're a carnivore, try the Parriada - a table top brazier that is sure to need a doggie bag. Great Mexican place! We came here on the recommendation of someone on a local Facebook page who said the food, atmosphere and price were far better than another Mexican restaurant farther north on Dixie Highway. I have to say we were not disappointed! Arrived around 6:00 pm and were greeted and seated right away by a young man. Hubby ordered the pork burrito suizo dinner plate and I ordered the 3 taco dinner plate. Both come with rice and beans, hubby's also came with sour cream and guacamole. Both were large servings and delicious! We brought home about half! The chips and salsa....we ate it all! Salsa was nicely diced and had just the right amount of heat. We waited a bit to get the take-home containers and the bill, but I attribute that to a large party of about 20 at an adjacent table. The waitress was very pleasant to us, even with the large party keeping her running. Kudos! As we were leaving, there were people in line out the door for take out! Good sign!
