Our server, Stephanie, was really great; very friendly, funny, and attentive. My parents come here a lot and really enjoy it. I've been a couple times with them and always like my food and the service. This time, I was torn between the Arroz con Camarones and the Enchiladas de Mole. Stephanie recommended the Enchiladas and they were awesome! My dad had the Machaca con Huevo and he really liked it, too. The other servers that helped us a couple of times were very friendly. Also, the place was poppin. One or two tables were empty the whole time and everyone seemed to be having a great time and enjoying their meal. The only two things I gotta say I was bummed about were that my mom's Caldo de Pescado was a little bland in flavor. I suggested we ask to switch it for something else, but she really doesn't like to that person. Of course, I get that, but I've worked in restaurants and I know that as long as the person is polite about it and has only take a bite or two of the meal, it's no problem. Anyway, she ended up added some of their homemade salsa, limes, and rice, which she said made it much better. The other thing is that they had a friendly singer/guitarist there to entertain everyone, but the entire time we were there they had music playing over speakers. I was bummed not hear live music and felt a little bad for the guy. As he was leaving, I tipped him and told him I hope we get to hear him next time my family and I come to La Cecina. Horrible! There were hairs!!! in my sisters food. The food was extremely oily my sister gave her baby eggs and she threw it all up since it was oily and when my sister asked for paper to clean it they told us to use napkins from the table. Horrible experience not coming back read more

It's okay .. I asked for the steak well done and they burnt it. But the sauce was okay they all taste VERY different. The drinks was really good I got a Paloma. It tasted clean and that's good. Very friendly staff, but more importantly very delicious food. I ordered a taco de cecina and a torta ahogada de cecina, and both were amazing. The taco comes with pico de gallo, and guacamole and it was amazing. The torta ahogada was pretty spicy but very tasty. The hot sauce they use has a somewhat thick consistency, similar to a mole but not as thick. Overall I left very satisfied. I can't wait to come back and try it. Hopefully their other restaurants in the city are just the same. read more

Interesting find....and a happy one! Not much to look at from the outside. Actually kind of run down...was a little nervous going in. But once inside it was clean and "family friendly". You know, one of those places that families frequent. Very warm and friendly. Service was outstanding....prompt and efficient. I ordered the Campechana---oyster, shrimp and octopus cocktail. Was amazing. Very filling and healthy. I also ordered 2 taco de pollo...maybe a tad dry, but with a little extra pico de gallo very tasty. I never give 5 stars but I did here. It's been my favorite place for a few years. Have never had a bad meal here. Servers are very polite, friendly and very customer oriented. I had Cecina Campesina yesterday. Flank steak, cactus, beans and small salad. Delicious! Their Chiliquilla's, tacos, burritos, chicken and mole, fish. I've had it all and it's top notch. Guacamole is very good. Made a little differently than most places. Tortillas are made right here and it shows. Tasty, and add another dimension to the meal instead of just being a tasteless wrap. Salsa....ah their salsa is the best. Served warm and has bits of burnt jalapeños skin from roasting in it for that smokey flavor. Consistent. Tasty. The only criticism I would have is sometimes the music is a bit loud. BUT GO HERE. You will not be disappointed. read more

This place was less than pleasing. Starting with service, horrible was only offered house water, never was asked or shown a drink menu when this place has a bar. Waitress did not speak English. Yum yum yum! The food is great here. They make homemade tortillas which is always a plus as well. The prices are very reasonable and you get more than what you pay for. Whether you are dining in or carry-out, the wait time is fair. This place is always packed whether its a weekday or weekend. Inside is pretty spacious but i think they can expand just a little more. My favorite dish here is their chicken and mole. So many people make this particular dish different, so its hard to find a place to make it to your liking. This is that place for me. First time here and it was good! Will be back! What's great is that they take pride in the quality of food served. Don't come when you're at your hungriest lol cause you'll wait for your food but it will be served fresh. It's definitely worth the wait. This place has decent ambience, but everything else is very shabby. The seafood quality was very bad. The fried calamari seemed like it was fried in old, reused oil. I'm glad that I get down to our plant about 10min away on a regular basis so I can stumble upon it again and again on an almost weekly basis. Well I did not get fooled again! This time my date was my grandpa. He ordered a coctel de camaron which he said was tasty. I, on the other hand tried the chilaquiles again. This time I knew exactly how to order it so it met my standards for good chilaquiles. I made sure that I asked for eggs in it this time, since the actual dish from their menu does not. That was the problem last time, no eggs, I love my eggs. Chilaquiles without egg are not chilaquiles to me. I also asked for cecina with it. Omggg it was amazing!! I left fully satisfied. On my search for authentic Mexican food, I finally found a gem. La Cecina is as authentic as it gets. The salsa was roasted, flavorful and amazing. Husband had tricolor fajitas, which was phenomenal and I went with the enchiladas verde which was so good. They don't skimp on cheese, meat or avocado like so many other places. I was already planning my return trip during my meal with my heart set on trying the house special and the queso fundido as well as the tres leches cake. Their prices are so reasonable and the service was excellent. Limonada was made fresh when we ordered it and there was live music which was really enjoyable. I called this business to place an order to go. The woman on the phone couldn't speak English and put me on hold. I called back another lady took my order. I went to pick it up. I'm standing in line looking at my food the lady behind the counter ignores me and tells me to sit down. The Spanish speaking patrons were served quickly and picked up there food. I was pissed and about to leave after waiting almost 10 minutes when someone finally says this is your order. Find someone bilingual to serve customers and the food wasn't great. For Calumet City this place was especially surprising! There cesina was great! Their Al Pastore was not too bad either. Their shrimp and octopus cocktail was very good. The service was very nice but they did make a few mistakes but still very nice. The only letdown of the evening was the tres leches cake. The cake was okay. If you've never had Tres Leches before you'll like it a lot but it's definitely not as good as other places. The place seems to be decorated pretty nicely. There's nice tile in the washrooms and the place is clean. The dining room is bright. I say that this place it's likely one of the better restaurants in Calumet City for sure. read more
