We had been to Fogon once a couple of years ago, but they seem to have remodeled since. We were there with a group of 11 friends last Saturday. We were overwhelmed by the deliciousness of the food (I'm a cook and a foodie, and very hard to please), the quality of the service, and the ambiance of the place. I enjoyed this place a lot actually. It is a secret gem in Matteson that is quite hidden but if you're familiar with the hibachi place then just look right next door! It is owned by a nice lady whom my parents had the pleasure of meeting on their first visit (I didn't make it). This time that I went she wasn't there, but still happy to support small local businesses! The waitress was really nice and attentive to us which is always appreciated! The food was all a hit. Everyone enjoyed their meal and there were 0 complaints. I had the seafood fondue which i made into tacos with my side of rice & beans. I am always open to new places, but this the the first & last time i will dine here. Food was overpriced and lacked flavor. Drink order was incorrect and water glass had a smudge. I got past that much for two mediocre tacos and greasy fries. On top of that it was very warm in the restaurant which made my experience uncomfortable. They charge automatic 20% service fee and 3% if you use your card. Its a no for me. But to each its own. read more

My friend called and said Hey, I wanna try this place! Coincidentally, I had just mentioned it so someone else so I was on board. We met for lunch and was greeted the moment we walked in. So gracious was the hostess as she led us to our table and gave us the run down on specials and the events they were having. We ordered drinks and had a few questions which she gladly answered. I had the strawberry daiquiri which was tasty. They have tables with sidewall seating with cushions but all the seats need cushions if you ask me. It was nice decor with enough room to be comfortable and not on top of one another. We started off with the guac which comes out quite festive with beets, radishes and cucumbers in a vinaigrette which was good. We added salt to the guac and it was good. We also had a free taste of the chicken noodle soup. So good! Everything tasted fresh. My friend had tacos that she loved and it came with rice and beans. She's not a huge bean fan but liked the rice. I had a chicken quesadilla minus the mushroom-they are not my thing! No sides came with that entrée. Visiting my son and he suggested this "place for tacos". Well it was way beyond tacos. This is a jewel of a place literally hidden in south suburban Chicago. The chef is adventurous and he goes way beyond traditional Mexican fare. We had an amazing mussels in chipotle sauce, that you will want extra bread for dipping. My son had a massive salmon burrito. He said the salmon was cooked to perfection. The chefs special was a four cheese ravioli with crawfish and a delicious sauce. Again, not your typical Mexican dish but terrific. I Went here for lunch with some friends. I decided to go with the happy hour drink special and taco special. However, when my bill came, I was charged full price and when questioned about it, the owner said because I didn't tell him that I wanted the happy hour drink and taco that we were getting charged full price my response I've never had to tell a place before that I was taking advantage of their happy hour special that's posted on the walls. The owner was rude to me when I questioned him on my bill. The server did end up, honoring the happy hour for my drinks, but not for my tacos. My husband and I had lunch at Fogon today. I was extremely surprised! If you like high end mexican food, this is your spot! The drinks were great!!! We had the mango and strawberry margarita as well as the the chacharita... they were all delicious. For lunch we had the vegetarian quesadillas, cecina tacos and camarones ala chimpa. Desert, pudding and flan. Everything was delicious! The chef really fuses traditional cuisine with contemporary dishes. Our waiter was extremely friendly and professional, providing great food suggestions. She was the only server (so if your in a rush allow for some extra time, especially since everything is made fresh). The hibiscus drink, JUST GET IT! The horchata was a little too sweet for us, and too much cinnamon. They give you a complimentary vegetable soup when dining in which my three year old loves. My som ordered the shrimp quesadilla dish, it was beautiful and he devoured it. My short rib enchiladas in red sauce were just okay.
