Extra points here for fast, attentive, genuine SERVICE! The homemade chips were served warm, crisp and not at all greasy. Salsa was cool; but without much more than tomato sauce. The guacamole made up for the salsa's mediocrity with a really tasty flavor. The con queso was just cheese sauce, plain, perhaps because of this upper Midwest locale? Then my shrimp and chorizo burrito arrived. What a delicious surprise... The two proteins worked well to compliment each other and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The shrimp also were spiced in a similar method to being blackened but with a nice Mexican blend sauce f seasoning vs. cajun and not the same intensity. More con queso was used overtop of this burrito and worked well to smooth out some of the spice used in both the shrimp and chorizo. I'll be back the next time I'm in town for business.

I went here with Debra R and a couple of people. I got the lengua tacos. Debra R got the quesadilla. Everyone else got enchiladas and a tostada. The food was really good.

The chips and salsa are spot-on and the food is always fast to come out, steaming hot, and tasty. It's a pretty big place with dining available on two sides. One thing that immediately caught our attention was the building itself. Dell Rapids has a great deal of historic charm, and the restaurant is housed inside one of the town's older historic structures, which gives it a lot of personality before you even sit down. The atmosphere carries some of that preserved small-town character that makes these Midwest road trip discoveries enjoyable in the first place. The presentation of the food was honestly quite beautiful. The plating was polished, colorful, and thoughtfully arranged in a way that immediately raised our expectations. The dishes looked refined and carefully constructed, almost the sort of meals that make you instinctively reach for your phone to take photos before eating. Unfortunately, the actual flavors never really lived up to the visual presentation. That was the biggest disappointment for us. While everything looked appealing, most of the dishes wound up tasting fairly flat and underwhelming. Nothing was outright terrible, but very little had the depth, seasoning, or distinctiveness we were hoping for once we actually began eating. Service throughout the meal was decent enough, though the restaurant seemed somewhat overwhelmed at the time. There was a very large and extremely loud Friday gathering taking up much of the dining room and seemingly most of the staff's attention. It also appeared they may have been somewhat understaffed that afternoon, which likely contributed to the slower pacing and divided attention. Overall, the experience landed somewhere between average and slightly disappointing for us. Not actively bad, but not especially memorable either. The historic setting and attractive presentation certainly added points, but ultimately we left feeling underwhelmed by the food itself.

And they always serve you good food and generous portions for a good price. I like that they don't have many screens here. When my husband and I eat out, we don't want to watch TV together, we want to visit. There are places to sit if you want to watch the TVs, but I really like that they don't have many in the restaurant. They remodeled recently, thankfully they didn't change the things that I loved about the restaurant before, just the entries/foyer area and the exterior. They have a nice kids menu that is a coloring page, they have helium balloons that they give to the kids at the front desk when you're done eating, and they serve everyone a little dessert sopapilla when you get your bill. Very family friendly. Would definitely recommend eating here!
