This is one of the larger VVs around which means larger selection of items as well (they have a large curtain section). At least once a month they have a big 50% off sale. If you are a Super Savers Club member, you can go the day before a sale and get the discount (go early because it gets pretty crowded later on in the day) Haven't run into any problems with the staff but I haven't needed to bother them for anything either.

The sign says "hand-picked vintage" and it's a good description. The space is quite small (looks like a converted apartment, with 2 small rooms and a hallway) and the selection is not as vast as some of the bigger vintage shops. However, each piece is carefully chosen (hence the name). The owner is really friendly and as my shopping partner and I perused the racks, she gave us back-stories for many of the pieces that caught our eyes. She also has altered some of the items to make them more wearable circa now. Compared to other vintage stores, there were some really kooky/costumey pieces here, include a gold lamé jumpsuit ("I had to take that one... it has stirrups!!") and a gothic, Addams-Family-esque black velvet dress with white lace detailing. This would be a fantastic place to find the perfect Halloween costume. It's also a great place to re-live the 90's. As I was browsing, I found myself repeatedly saying to my friend - "omg, remember these?!?" Like those cutout shoulder dresses. Other finds include leopard printed faux-fur coats and beat-up vintage leather jackets for men. This store sits on Queen St and just near the hip area of Ossington. Unlike the Ossington spots, Garb's store has the large windows that lets in a lot of natural light. When you first walk into the store, you don't think stereotypical 'consignment'. For starters, lots of items are in well thought out displays, everything is clean and pristine (more on this later), and Dan (the owner) is careful to choose which items he'd feel be sold and not sit on the shelves. Another thing about the store... it's well organized. So you don't feel like you're in a musty and cluttered place... instead everything is organized just to size and by type. Nice and easy to find that special or interesting piece. Working and talking to him was easy... he's very genuine and not once did he give me the look of "why did you buy this" haha... though to be fair, I had tags still on a lot of the items I brought in. I just hang on to things I should let go! He was very fair to price the items and made the whole service a breeze to go through. I do like how he has everything online so if you ever want to check if your item sold... all it takes is to log into your online account and voila! Easy to find. Other places require days for them to catalog and then you have to call in every time you're curious. Nahhhh not here. About the brands they carry... it's definitely premium and often you will find items with a tag on it. Nothing sits for more than 90 days here... for a buyer, it's great as you can items become discounted and find those amazing deals. With consignment, if you want tooo long, someone else can snatch it. Another great thing about Garb is the quality of the items... its all in good shape and if it's a bit dirty, he does ask the consignee to wash or dry clean before bringing it back! Of a Kind is one part vintage clothes store and one part vinyl record retailer. The clothing selections are pretty specific to be aimed at the hipster vintage lover. While the styles didn't speak to me personally, I'll admit things were really affordable compared to the vintage shopping prices you'll find on Queen Street West. So if the vintage clothing thing is your look, consider this to be a heads up. The vinyl selection is made up of a mix of newer indie rock (Foster the People, the Black Lips, and Metric were a few of the names for example) and some classics (Portishead's self titled album caught my eye specifically) and smaller groupings of used dance records (think classic house and early rave stuff like Moby), funk/soul (Sly and the Family Stone, Tina Turner, more commercial type stuff seems to overwhelm the selections), surf rock and a few other genres as well. The place has a really welcoming vibe and the staff all seem really friendly too, including their resident dog-ployee who helps greet customers. What's not to love about that? I'm sure as the store grows, gets off the ground, gets more stock and establishes itself that there will be continual reasons to at least pop your head in and give it a browsing, so get on it and go find yourself a deal!

I rode by Any DIrect Flight, with a lovely vintage-y looking dress in the window and a cafe table for 2. I go in and realize its a boutique + cafe. The girl working tells me that the front of the store was turned into a cafe (5 tables including 1 large square communal table) in March 2012. Its super bright and sunny, right on Queen E so watching the street car and people walk by is lovely. Free Wi-Fi, decent coffee and espresso drinks, and outlets for your laptop: freelancers out there, this is a great spot! Could also see it being the jam if they get some tables out front too.
