Sometimes in life, you come across a feel good story, when you hear the trials and obstacles overcome to be a success story, it warms your heart. And although they are rare...but you as an outside observer can appreciate and connect with the underdog. And that's what I'd like to talk about beginning this intro to Lost Creek Safari... I discovered it completely out of nowhere while passing through Stillwater, Oklahoma. I initially arrived in Stillwater to see Oklahoma State's football stadium. And when I stumbled upon Lost Creek Safari from Google Maps, I decided to stay an extra day and check out this animal rescue/sanctuary. Stepping on the grounds, I was immediately introduced to Trevor, the owner, and he shared his background, talked about how this animal farm used to be in dire straits and the animals were suffering. Trevor initially came to Stillwater, OK on a wrestling scholarship for school, but found his passion and ultimate destiny to help save this Lost Creek Safari. Trevor dove head first into changing everything about the old farm and the poor conditions. Fast forward a few years later and although Trevor says there's still more goals to achieve, I could sense what tremendous pride he had in his accomplishments so far, despite all the risks and costs associated in this practically full time, 24/7 job. But the hard work and dividends appear to be paying off. Here's what you can expect out of a visit to Lost Creek Safari... According to Trevor's website lostcreeksafari.com, there are "baboons, mini zebu, deer, emus, monkeys, otters, anteaters, foxes, peacocks, llamas and lemurs"....just to name a few. Price of entry is $11, and they have separate fees for feeding and interacting with whatever animals you may be interested in seeing. But, for an extra $11 and a total of $22, you can have the entire package! This includes, according to their website..."admission, feed cup, parakeet stick, lemur feeding, water buffalo feeding, camel feeding, reptile barn entry, baby kangaroo/wallaby encounter, and baby goat encounter. This All-Inclusive Package is what I purchased and was well worth it. Just strolling the grounds, I felt transported away to a better place. Everything is organized and well maintained. You could sense there was a tremendous amount of thought and effort put into accommodating guests. I was instructed to start at the parakeet enclosure where the birds flew onto my hand and ate from a feeding stick I was holding. Then...the remainder of the experience was simple by following along a paved pathway and meeting and greeting the residents here on the farm. Most of the animals can be fed, but some were off limits due to special diets. The lemurs were exciting to feed. The camel was wonderful saying hello to. The water buffalo was friendly. You pass by baby goats and enter their playpen to hang out with them. Next was a charming adolescent deer who was very approachable. Cows anxiously waited to say hello and be fed. Ostriches optimistically eat from your hands if you don't mind a little pecking. More goats and donkeys to say hi to before approaching the reptile enclosure. This is inside and you can hold a snake around you for picture taking. They have all sorts of different species like lizards, iguanas and snakes from different continents. Before departing the reptile enclosure it was thrilling having the chance to hold a baby kangaroo wallaby. Born a few weeks ago, it was adorable. Then, it was returning on the pathway back to the start. I still had feed in my cup and gave the animals the remainder of my leftovers. Back in the front entrance was a small gift shop. I was totally impressed with my time here and took home a t-shirt. Finally, funny sort of how things came full circle. Trevor returned to greet me goodbye and say farewell. I told him how inspiring his story was. And, I just thanked him for revealing who he was and what motivates him to maintain a beautiful rescue sanctuary and giving back to so many animals. In my opinion, someone like Trevor is called a hero. There's not many of them out there. If you ever doubt kindness or lose belief, then come visit Lost Creek Safari in Stillwater, Oklahoma. New visit since new owners and all the improvements. Always clean and well kept. This time had so many more friendly workers. Guy with birds and one with Otters very nice. The feeding of the deer always favorite. Some touching or feeding no longer allowed. Safety first the way it should be. Best thing was holding the kangaroo ! They have a place to get drinks and also to wash hands. Looked like now just out houses to use . Other than that ,nice place to take the kids of all ages. So much closer to animals. Still not alot of shade so go early and prepared. We turn on Western in Stillwater and takes you straight until you turn at lost Creek sign on left. Then just a short way. read more

This is such a fun experience if you love animals. For 22 dollars you can feed lemurs and parakeets, hold a baby kangaroo, as well as snakes, feed all of the goats, deer, feed water buffalos and camels. All of the staff were very nice and knowledgeable about the animals. The facilities are well kept and clean. In general the animals seemed well taken care of and that they had good enclosure spaces. I loved seeing the otters and anteaters being fed as well they are both super cute. read more

What a fantastic gem of a find!! Went on a homeschool field trip here with my five children. We don't go a lot of places because, well, with 5 kids it all adds up incredibly quickly with a tight budget. Best $11 per person I've spend in a long while! We had a quick tour of the safari, got to feed Leemurs, water buffalo, kangaroos, wallaby's, a camel, ostrich, deer, goats, Oryx and... well, I'm sure there were others I missed. Our tour fee included a big souvenir cup full of feed and a bird seed stick for the aviary. We had a fantastic day. Unlike a big zoo where the animals are far away in their exhibits, most of the animals here just seemed to be so much more up close and personal. We brought a picnic and ate at one of the tables scattered about the area and just had and all around lovely day. We were all able to hold a little joey too, which was quite fun for everyone. All in all, I'd love to take my whole family back again. We were told that they are working on getting an aquarium building going in upcoming seasons, so that will be neat as well... Just felt like a mom'n'pop sorta zoo and I really liked that feel. The kids learned a LOT as well. read more

This is literally my favorite place on Earth! Went I went there last I spent about an hour total in the parakeet enclosure SO CUTE!!!! The capybaras were inside, but all of the animals were adorable, and they seemed fairly happy for a roadside zoo! I am OBSESSED with this beautiful place... I just can't get over how much I love the animals and the interactive feel by feeding them... It's purely the best place ever! read more

We will be returning here EVERY TIME we are in Stillwater!! I, my husband, and out 18 month old LOVED this place! It is reasonably priced, VERY clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly. If you can speak to one of the owning family members you will see their passion for this place! We spoke to a younge gentlemen who was able to tells us about all of the animals, habitats, and future plans for the safari. They have enrichment programs for the animals and this was the first time I have ever seen animals this healthy and vibrant. We go to the OKC zoo all of the time but our 18 month old definitely preferred the interactive experience offered here. Stop thinking about it and just go!! read more

Loved this place when I lived in Stillwater. Very big considering where it is located. You can definitely spend 2 hours there. The people who own/work there are so nice and friendly and let you feed some of the animals. There is a bathroom, a place to wash your hands, an indoor little shop to buy your tickets and some stuffed animals. Also the same place they keep a few reptiles. I think it was $3 for a cup of food, but the people around the farm sometimes have food you can give out to the hippo and giraffe and they let the animals eat the bread right out of your hand. An incredible little Safari in Stillwater, the folks who run it are very friendly and knowledgeable about their animals. Almost all of their animals were given to them by people who raised them as pets and could no longer take care of them properly which leads to the animals being VERY comfortable around people. Great pricing for the close encounters and experiences you are able to get with animals that you do not normally get close to in zoos. read more

This place is an absolute gem!!! I was coming to Stillwater to visit my friend who is in vet school at OSU, and happened to find this place on line. SOOO happy we checked it out!!! First, you have to call to make an appointment to visit. They assemble groups, and need accurate counts. If you make a reservation, please keep it or call to cancel so someone else can visit! They are a small business, so please give them the courtesy! On the day we visited, a few people didn't show up, so our smaller group got to spend more time with the animals. During your trip, you get to hold a baby kangaroo, walk into the kangaroo enclosure, feed ostrich, water buffalo, a camel, goats, deer, and a zebra. You also get a wonderful narrated walking tour of the grounds. All for $10!!! (Or $5 if you don't want to feed animals) This place is wonderful! We'll be back! read more

This is a rare find in Stillwater! I feel so lucky to have stumbled on it as it is an awesome place to bring young children to interact with animals. The staff are extremely engaging and knowledgeable, we learned so much in a short time. Feeding the animals and getting to pet them was a great way to teach my 6 year old about textures, temperaments, and how to respect all animals. We had heard raves about Lost Creek Safari, but it far exceeded our expectations. Our 2 year old granddaughter was ecstatic! She held a baby kangaroo for 10 min, loved the goats, and monkeys. She was excited to go in the rabbits cage and interact freely. Loved the zebra, emu, lemurs, camel, buffalo, donkey & kangaroos! She was able to run free and be independent.
