But I do love Sickels Tree Farm and the memories it has created for me. I grew up always having a live Christmas tree and by golly .. live trees are the way to go! Tree hunting? Exciting. Cutting down the tree? Adventurous. Smelling the tree afterward? Delightful. ha One of their greatest aspects is that you can literally head out onto their land on your own and pick out your own tree. Like any other Christmas tree farm - ha - but this place does it quite well. And of course they have the photo op after you've found that special tree. Pricing is totally dependent on the height of the tree. Makes sense, right? If you're feeling a bit lazy, they also have pre-cut trees. Everyone wins. In the main building where you make the purchase, you'll find a nice little gift shop. And complimentary hot apple cider. Lovely time!

He told us they weren't open yet (in a not friendly way) and I apologized saying I thought it was 10am based off google. He told me it was noon. He then got more rude and told me he doesn't have a website (I didn't say he did) and maybe I should have called the number listed where he has a message stating the hours. He continued to be surly and rude. Remember we were only 20 minutes early ... he could have offered to let us park in his large lot and wait.. but nope.. we had to go. We decided to still buy a tree bc we were on a time limit ... so we pulled out and parked on a side street for 15 minutes. Upon arrival my husband greeted him nicely. The rude old man then started talking to me wanting to tell me again how he doesn't have a website etc ... and I said I would rather not talk. He then kicked my family off his property.

We were late for the cuttable tall trees....and then my husband saw the precut imported Fraser Firs. Game over. They cut and wrapped. We shopped the Indiana store (last minute gifts for me and for my girls --Time and True "she grew up in an Indiana town" pins, and red truck with tree hats for my grandson and myself. They made a little tree for our grandson. And the hungry boy got a hotdog and hot chocolate. A fun outing. Great service. Price was competitive. Our tree is now just dropping needles. Not just the tree and service. It's the story and the memories A priceless day to be repeated next year.

It was a busy year for real trees, so they didn't have a tree the size we needed for self cut. They had a great selection inside as well though and we were able to find the perfect tree. They also had an adorable gift shop. Both of my boys were able to pick out an ornament they liked for us to purchase. The trees were well priced and the staff went above and beyond to help.

It is a great family owned business that they are passionate about. *Disclaimer* this IS a cut your own tree place. That means going out into the fields, finding your tree, cutting it, and bringing it back to the lot. For me, that is part of the experience, and they DO help you by shaking it, netting it, and will assist getting it on/in your car if needed. If you're down with this keep reading! From the moment you arrive you are greeted by the helpful owner and a trusty sweet old black lab. There is a small building with free popcorn and hot chocolate. They provide saws or you can bring your own. There are a huge selection of trees from small to super tall. They have several different types of trees as well. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. I found out last year that dogs are welcome leashed, as long as they are well behaved so this year I brought my husky. As mentioned above you cut your tree and carry it back to the stand where they get it ready for you. They do provide twine for tying it to your car as well. Each year a free dated ornament is given to you upon checkout, which I find charming. Sometimes they even have homemade wreaths for sale. Their prices are SUPER reasonable, far more than that tree lot with trees that have been cut for months and wont last long.
