Last visited Lost World Caverns in 1973, and for my return trip went on the wild cave tour which 'wildly' exceeded my expectations. It was a challenging endeavor that gave me a sense of fellowship with the others on the tour. Guides were helpful and encouraging. It was a great adventure that I will always treasure. read more

Took my 6 and 3 year olds and had the best time. They give you a flashlight and let you go explore on your own so we could go at our own pace. It's definitely chilly down there so bring a jacket. It was such a fun experience for the whole family. My kids really felt like they were going on an adventure. There's a great gift shop too! read more

We took the wild cave tour in April 2018. It was amazing. Our tour guide Jonathan made sure that we didn't die and he talked us through all the difficult parts with patience and humor. We would definitely do it again! Read on for the nitty gritty: It was chilly, but Jonathan assured us we would warm up once we got working- and we really did. With the suggested long sleeve shirt and sweatshirt, you don't feel cold at all, except if you get in the water, that's chilly! On that note, it would be ideal to wear clothes you could chuck afterward. Our dark clothes and jeans came pretty clean, but I think the lighter clothes are done for. They get stained by orange mud. We had one big and one little kid with us. They had zero fear and had no problems fitting into the tight spaces. My husband, whose arms don't always twist the way they used to, almost didn't make it into one of the holes. But most times, there were alternative ways to go- they just aren't as fun. I'm a giant scaredy cat and I really thought I was going to have problems. I have a moderate case of claustrophobia and a severe fear of heights. Two things helped with that. Tour guide Jonathan and the lack of light. The only thing lighting your trail is everyone's headlamps. But you're so busy making your way forward that the ledges and drops aren't that concerning. They also aren't that visible, which makes them easy to ignore. But that's a good thing- my fear of a falling in a hole that is 20 feet away is irrational- so it keeps me comfortable. And fellow claustrophobics will understand me on this one. The tight spaces are really not bad. Yes, there are tiny spaces that you have to go through, but they are only tiny on two of the sides or for a short while, and open spaces are visible. There aren't any blind holes that you have to squeeze your way in to. You will definitely have to conquer your fears of both heights and tight spaces, but it's not going to leave you in tears. As far as the difficulty of the trip, it's pretty hard. I think the guys there are so used to it that they think it's easy. It left my husband and I feeling like we just ran a mud run- literally. The kids were fine, but we were all super hungry. And that's when you get to eat the BEST lunch ever! Maybe it was the fact that had a great workout, we made it out alive, and got a hot shower, but their chicken sandwiches were heavenly. read more

This was a fun stop on our West Virginia vacation! It was a self-guided tour, but the paper guide was helpful and the stops were well marked along the way. It took us about an hour, maybe a little longer, to complete the tour. It was refreshing to be able to take our time. We enjoyed the gift shop as well. The staff was friendly and helpful. read more

Fun stop for a road trip. We did the self-guided tour and it took almost exactly 45 minutes, even taking our time. It was extremely interesting to check out the formations and to read the stories. The gift shop was great and the whole operation was well run and well organized. I do agree with the recommendation to wear sturdy shoes and a light jacket/long sleeve shirt. There's water in the cave (of course), so it is slick. There are a lot of steps and the ramp in/out is fairly steep (you can take your time), but be sure to ask if you have concerns about mobility or small children. read more

Really cool experience for a rainy day in Lewisburg. We did the self guided tour. Definitely worth the price of admission which was quite inexpensive. ($12/person I think). The tour was self guided. They handed us a flashlight, told us a few facts about the cave and sent us on our way. The natural beauty of the cave was better served in quiet actually and without the presence of a cheesy tour guide. It is truly an amazing little cave with incredible rock formations and open spaces to marvel at. Pretty easy to get around for a young family but would/could be challenging for older folks or those with disabilities. read more

Went as a group of eight, another couple joined for a total of ten for the 4 hour guided tour. From beginning to end, just an awesome trip. Our guide, Steve, was wonderful at telling us everything we needed to know, challenging us a bit, and being safe and fun all at the same time. Provided all required gear, drinks, snacks, and a fantastic lunch afterwards. Even made accommodations for 2 vegetarians in our group. The gift shop is very nice and extremely reasonable with pricing, unlike most gift shops in touristy places like this. He includes a free cd of the pictures he takes throughout the trip and after getting all muddy and sweaty, he has multiple showers for you to take a nice warm shower without waiting very long. We did the wild cave tour. For four hours we were able to go off the beaten path with tour guides Conner and Liam, who helped us to safely navigate slippery footing and some tight squeezes! They also provide hot showers and a delicious lunch after as well as snacks throughout the tour. Definitely will be bringing people back here! read more

Wow. Great visit! Amazing caverns, nature never disappoints. Staff is friendly and warm. Bonus dogs sleeping in the shop and outside in the sunshine. Reasonably priced with discounts for several groups. Well stocked gift shop with decent prices. The driveway is long and unpaved, but worth the trip! Recommend heavy shoes as the path is muddy (it is underground and a cave after all), and it's 51 degrees so if you're cold natured bring your fleece. Great place to wonder at nature. read more

My husband and I love adventures and we try to do something fun for our anniversary every year. This was an out of our norm adventure. Connor was a great guide and was very patient with my mini anxiety attacks when I felt overwhelmed. He helped me get through some of my fears and was very understanding when I knew I reached my limitations. My tennis shoes were meant more for running and not caving so It was very challenging to avoid slipping. Also if you wear glasses, I recommend wearing contacts if you have them, my glasses kept fogging up and made it difficult to see. All in all it was a great experience for this 45 year old gal and her hubby and we are so glad we did it! Connor made our experience an awesome one!!! read more

Stopped here while just passing through the area on a road trip. These caves were awesome!! From the outside it is unassuming but when you go down into the caves it is expansive and absolutely fascinating. It is a self guided tour and requires taking lots of steps up and down but the information plaques around the cave are very informative. We will be back to try the 4 hour wild cave tour in the future! read more

Our guides Steve and Kyle were wonderful and the 4-hour Wild Tour was well worth the price. Just the right combo of letting you push yourself while being very diligent about your safety and laid back the whole trip. We did things we'd never done before and came out covered in mud and content that we had really done a lot! Lunch afterwards was great. Bring a change of clothes and take advantage of their nice showers there. They take tons of photos of you while caving and send you a Dropbox link that night with lots of bonus photos of the cave itself. Highly recommended! Don't forget to tip the guides. read more

With so many different formations to see, the Lost World Caverns shouldn't me missed! There is something to see at every angle you look. We didn't have guides for our adventure. We were just told by the staff to keep to the right at all times. We did and didn't have any problem seeing everything. It had just massively rained throughout the area. The cave didn't get flooded, and there were lots of different small waterfalls throughout to see. It was beyond cool. read more

Good workout up and down steps. Can see everything in about 30 minutes its a smaller cave. Went back around to take photos. Slippery when it rains. The lighting was beautiful and the gift shop was interesting. Display of PREHISTORIC BEAR SKULL found in cave and also other fossils and general Dinosaur items related to the time period. Gift shop affordable some items $3-5 dollars on up. Nice collection of rocks, minerals, fossils, geodes for sale. Would return again someday. 4 of us did the Wild Cave Tour, and it was incredible. Our guide was fun and helped us navigate the tighter sections well. I wore hiking boots, jeans, and a long sleeve shirt. It was challenging and rewarding. The staff was very kind. The meal afterwards was warm and delicious. I will definitely be back. Prepare to get a little wet and dirty, and squeeze through some narrow passages. The best part was how the cave always opened up after a narrow section. My husband and I did the wild cave tour with Steve and Channing. They were awesome guides! They knew I was petrified and steve kept telling jokes that lightened the mood. I was not so excited about cave crickets, salamanders and bats, but no bats were seen due to it not being their season in June and only 1 baby salamander was seen and only about 4 cave crickets. None got on me hallelujah! The sights were beautiful, yet challenging. There were always plan B options for most scary parts, so I never felt unsafe because the guide and my hubby were right there to help. There were some tight squeezes, but they were fun. Prepare to get muddy and wet, but overall have a memorable experience. My hubby had a great bday! read more

Re. the Wild Cave Tour: The caverns were PHENOMENAL, absolutely mind-blowing!!! This was my first time spelunking, but my pal had previously been on a tour in Mammoth Cave. While she was perhaps spoiled there, we were both a little disappointed by the intensity -- there was a lot of stopping and chatting about unrelated things when we wanted to do more exploring! Our guide was Steve, and while his joking and lighthearted manner is quite friendly, at times we weren't sure if he was kidding or not about the safety of some of the holes we were allowed to crawl into. Obviously we were safe, but I prefer a guide who is 100% clear when it comes to safety, especially when I've never been in a cave before. The price wasn't outrageous for college students like us, but I don't believe we got the experience we wanted for what we paid. It would have been nicer to have an educational guide who spent more time teaching us about respect for the caves and the geology of the area than cracking painfully bad jokes. The folks who run lunches afterwards were very friendly, and incredibly accommodating -- my pal and I are vegetarians, and they didn't have anything vegetarian prepared, so someone ran to the store and bought us a whole plate of vegetables and a container of hummus -- yum -- we were very moved by such generosity! Additionally, the photographs were VERY fun to look through! read more

As a couple of adventurous 22-year-olds, we had an amazing time on our Wild Cave Tour. Steve, our guide and the owner of the business, kept us busy, challenged, and entertained for the entirety of our 4-hour adventure. Although I'm sure the tour is fun with larger groups as well, we lucked out with a personal experience -- Steve was flawlessly in tune with our energy levels, nervousness, and needs. Each of the challenges (50-yard crawl, "treehouse," mud slides, and more) came with their own flare; nothing felt repetitive or boring. In fact, we got quite a workout! The mid-tour snack, glorious post-mud showers, great pictures, and yummy lunch really sealed the deal for us. Would enthusiastically recommend to anyone with a sense of adventure! read more

Awesome adventure for our family of 5 with kids ages 14 to 21!! Can't think of a single thing to improve. Everyone agreed that this was the highlight of our vacation in WV. We did the Wild Cave Tour which consisted of 4 hours in the cave with a guide, Kile, spelunking off the beaten path. We love rock scrambling and that's basically what we did for the entire tour! We got really muddy which was half the fun, and pretty wet in the 'birth canal' at the end. Kile was fun with lots of jokes and also a lot of knowledge about the science and nature aspects for our curious minds. He also kept us safe in the trickier spots by providing his foot or knee as a foothold. He was an excellent guide. We had a break with snacks and water in the cave, hot showers afterwards with body wash, shampoo and towels provided. After our showers, they provided a home-cooked meal with special provisions to accommodate our gluten and dairy intolerances. Be sure to tell Steve, the owner, in advance if you have dietary restrictions as he was happy to adjust the menu for us. They also had friendly dogs wandering around, horses to pet, llamas and goats to watch, reasonable prices in the gift shop. Would recommend this experience to everyone, but be aware that it is a bit strenuous and requires some agility. You'll twist, squeeze, extend your legs to reach the next rock, squat down, barrel roll, army crawl, crab walk, etc. read more
