When I swiped my card, a charge of 963.99 GBP was deducted from my account, but it remained pending for confirmation. The salesperson explained that this pending status occurs when the amount is pre-approved but will be refunded later, so he couldn't complete the purchase at that time. I was given a deadline until Thursday (25/1) for the refund to be processed, but it's been a week and I haven't received any reimbursement yet. I tried to contact them through the website, but I was informed that I should go to the physical store, which is impossible since I live in Malta. Additionally, there is no phone number or email available to contact the Edinburgh store directly. The Currys staff member at the physical store also told me that I could resolve the issue online, but it seems that this information is not true. In summary, I ended up buying the iPhone again with another card and essentially paid double the amount, as the money from the first transaction was not refunded. The manager's name is Eric and the salesperson's name is Craig.

But Gorgie Appliances is a really good local business and when I popped in to check it out, the owner really did know a lot about which appliance would suit your exact needs rather than just trying to offload the most expensive one on you, which you don't really get in the big stores. The store also orders in specific parts of appliances that you may need as well as fixing any problems you may have. Overall its a great local shop where you can get an appliance tailored to your personal needs.

Cue panic, lots of swearing and more panic. I rang the only camera shop I know in Edinburgh and they quoted me £115 to fix it. WHAT?! I came across this place and thought I'd take a chance. Now, I won't lie, they don't do cameras or camera repairs in there. They fix audio equipment and TVs at an extremely cheap rate. The reason this place gets 5* is because the guy in there took the time to tell me all the camera specialists in the area he knows (he's in the 'biz') and even drew me a map explaining how to get there. Considering he was getting no business from me, he really didn't need to do that, but he did. And if that's not a mini victory then I don't know what is.

In all occasions, the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. The installation for a washing machine was included in the price that was matching main street competitors. I had to visit them three weeks after the original purchase date as the cashback offer for the washing machine I bought was requiring an extra document, and the staff were pleasantly helpful providing additional proof of purchase. For a start, the whole shop looks more sleek, less like a jumble sale. It sells mainly electrical goods and computer hardware, so it would be a handy place to take your laptop if you were experiencing problems. They also do mobile phone repairs and all that unblocking and locking Sim nonsense that I have no idea about. As well as that, you can buy sims and phone covers, and they sell cool Blackberry covers which are sometimes hard to come by elsewhere, for good prices. Ideal if you need some technological help, which I usually do!

A few people were in store when I arrived but I got served quickly. I was in about a laptop charger. Staff didn't have it in stock and checked online. They advised me (after checking themselves) for me to replace from Amazon rather than ordering from Samsung as I'd save at least £20. They helpfully pointed out what product code to search for. So, good service and being helpful so I can save some cash. I'd pop in again if I thought they could help :-)

CUSTOMERS BEWARE…read more Just had a very bad experience with these "guys". Took my wife's 7month old S6 in to get the charging port repaired. Whilst I was happy with the timescale (4pm the same day), they proceeded to tell me that the damage was down to my wife "jamming" in the power cable. Not withstanding this, they refused to deal with this under the warranty and a bit of an argument broke out. Nevertheless, as it was to be fixed that day, we reluctantly agreed to the price (very reasonable). When I went back to pick the phone up (3.45pm), I was told that there was a "problem"; even though they said they would phone in that eventuality. It turned out that the screen was not powering up. Now this is where the fun really starts. 1st off, the "Manager" asked if anyone had done anything to the phone before they got their hands on it... I informed them that no one had opened it at all as it was brand new. Furthermore, the only other people to look at it was the Carphone Warehouse Geek Squad who recommended them in this first place as they didn't want to touch it. After the Manager was told in no uncertain terms that information, he started to get "het up" and developed an "attitude". After being advised to calm down, he agreed that he/they would foot the cost of replacing the screen... just as well as he/they damaged it as it was working perfectly well when we arrived; after all they had to get the PUK code from the phone by dialing in the relevant number! Though I wasn't happy at leaving the phone as my wife has MS and needs it, I had no choice. Again I was advised that they would phone and let me know when it was done. I also voiced my displeasure at having to come back into Edinburgh, incurring further expense. Tuesday came and no call. I called that afternoon and was told the part was on order and awaiting it coming in. Nothing else but to wait Wednesday came and again no call. I called mid morning and was advised that the part had arrived and they were fitting it as we spoke. I was asked to call back after 2pm. I called back after 2pm and was told the repair was still ongoing. I called back twice more and on the 2nd one (5.45pm) I was told it was ready for pick up. As they close at 6 and I live nearly 30miles away, that day was impossible. And so to today. I arrived just after 1pm and pickup the phone. I am please to report they did fix it and everything is fine. However the "attitude" soon returned when I asked for compensation for the inconvenience caused to myself and wife, along with the extra traveling expenses. The Manager took over from the shop assistant and proceeded to tell me that the only reason he replaced the screen was out of courtesy to me as the warranty had expired. Again he was reminded that the phone was only 7 months old. He then told me they had found superglue inside the case and that "obviously" someone had been in before him/them to repair it. Again it was pointed out to them that the phone was brand new from the Carphone Warehouse and when told that, he said it was obviously a refurbished phone. Again he was informed that it was not the case and he was welcome to check with them and Samsung! Eventually he relented and gave me a reduction in the cost, to cover my traveling expenses, nothing else. Grudgingly he took my money telling that he had learned a lesson today. When I asked he what that was, he replied, "never give a customer a freebie". I told him the lesson he should have learned was "not to break customer phones". Ultimately Samsung need to do a better job of licensing these sorts of franchises to do their work for them... if you go to them, watch them like hawks and don't take any old rubbish from them!

Admittedly, they specialise in sewing and knitting machines (which are all displayed splendidly) but since I can't afford one of those bad boys I stuck to the supply section. They had pigeon holes stuffed with wool of all shapes, sizes and varieties (including pom pom wool to knit yourself a bubbly scarf!) Towards the back, they stock knitting and sewing guides, patterns, along with hundreds of good quality spools. Here you'll find everything you need to start your crafty business, including an ample supply of pin cushions, pins, glue, hem guidelines and Wondaweb for those of us who like to cheat *cough cough*. I would like to move away from using Wondaweb to begin stitching clothes up the right way, and Drummond is great for lending inspiration. The staff were exceptionally friendly and made me feel at ease, even though I baltantly didn't know where to start. With their attentive natures, I felt like I was being taken care of. I want to start making dresses out of old skirts and tops I find in charity shops, and in here I saw loads of accessories and shiny thread you could embellish a tired outfit with. It's great for experts as they have a ton of supplies, but equally useful for beginners like myself who don't know their Singer from their...well, to be honest I can't even think of another machine maker! But with the helpful staff and plethora of stock, Drummonds is a good place to start.

I go to this shop fairly often because it is right near work for me, but if it weren't, I would NEVER go. The staff hover and constantly ask if you need any help - I usually spend about 5 minutes in the shop and am asked if I need any help 2-3 times. It's very off-putting. I'm convinced they think I'm going to nick something. They're a little condescending as well - "put your debit card away safe now" when I finish paying, etc. (Possibly a natural reaction of the kindly granny staff to a person under the age of 40?) The wool selection is limited. It seems very much geared towards grannies knitting either big aran sweaters for their menfolk, or cute little baby things. There is a decent selection of affordable sport/DK baby wools, a few sock wools, cones for machine knitting, and huge 800 gram balls of Wendy aran, but no smaller aran balls. I was looking for some aran for children's mittens, but was told that "we don't have those dear, the smaller balls work out too expensive". Um. Well. Thank you, I guess? I'll just go to a different shop then... My advice: come here if you need your sewing machine repaired, if you're a knitter over the age of 65, or if you're planning to make large projects in neutral tones. This kind of stuff doesn't really float my kind of boat but I did see a really pretty dark wood table at £95 that I quite liked. They stock lots of little accessories such as crystals, jewellery and candles and the staff are really helpful too. The whole shop has a really laid back atmosphere and great for a browse without feeling pressured to buy anything.

Upon entering, there was certainly that free spirited vibe - they were playing the Cocteau Twins and the shop keeper was really relaxed. But that only made for a better browsing experience (and I LOVE the Cocteau Twins so I was happy). Yes, there are loads of carved wooden ornaments and chairs, hanging beads and dream catchers, but there are also some lovely rustic homewares, trendy candles and some truly gorgeous ornate wrapping paper. They have a range of cards and some lovely stuff for the kitchen, including plaid patterned coat hangers and pretty ornaments. So even though it has the 90s hippy vibe, there is more variety than you may think if you care to enter. The shop assistant was absolutely lovely and her laid back approach left me free to browse to my heart's content. I came out with cactus candles which are awesome but too nice to burn!
