Lots of construction on Route 7 and intersecting roads so drive with care. Location is not off or a traffic Light so when following GPS drive slowly. Decent parking lot but not huge and since we were there around 10:00 am were able to find parking in the lot. Easy to find the location with many signs and people for either party. Plenty of helpful folks and social distancing in place. We were in and out quickly. Oh, if you applied for an absentee ballot, you have a choice to wait for it to arrive or vote provisionally in an adjacent building and then return to sender when your absentee ballot shows up. Provisional ballots will not be counted until November 6th but we were glad to have our votes in.

Overall a great experience, and as crazy as it sounds, I do it again! Something to think about though...I wore shorts, but I would suggest wearing pants. Someone I was with kept getting these green spiky things stuck to them and I have no idea what that was but it's a no. Also, if you have some hiking shoes or boots wear those. Trying to walk on rocks and walk downhill you might slide a little bit. You want to have some sort of stability. Last they have these, for a lack of better word, hiking sticks that a lot of other hikers had that seem to be very helpful from what one of them told me I would suggest getting a pair of those as well. I hear they have them at Costco.

I love how accessible this library is for walkers and bikers in the town of Herndon. You can enter from the bottom floor or the second floor from the outside. The bottom floor has conference rooms, a foyer with seating, local bulletins, and the Maker Lab. The top floor is where there's a huge communal quiet room with dividers for individual studying, the books, and computers. I would recommend chatting with any librarian here to find out everything the library has to offer. It is a LOT. I am a fan of the Maker Lab.

Once we gave them basic info like a piece of mail with our address and phone number we were able to get library cards and info about the Libby application for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines. New in 2022 there is also Kanopy, an on-demand streaming video service. Each account is assigned 5 "play credits" per month. There were a decent number of international and indie titles to choose from. Overall the library is smaller than others I have been to but it seems cozy. There seems to be a regular board game meetup that meets downstairs on Saturday. You should show up earlier rather than later from the specified time range though since after they form groups and start playing it may be harder to join in on a game until one group finishes their play session.

Being fairly new to Gainesville, I was very surprised to come across this tucked away park in an…read morearea that is now getting blown out with parking lots and data centers. Thank God there's this protected lot of trees remaining. I drove into the park with the idea that it would be a basic, uneventful loop and I'd go home. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself on a 3.25 mile trek around the forest perimeter by following the blue trail markers. Walking at a moderate pace, I arrived back at my starting point in one hour and 10 minutes. The scenery and foliage types change and add variety along the way, although when the leaves fully grow in for the summer, I'm sure the mountain views from the northern side and Battlefield to the east will be obscured. The trails were nicely kept without any sign of litter, and there's even some benches along the blue trail crafted by a local Eagle Scout troop. There's only some mild elevation changes towards the end, assuming you are walking counter-clockwise from the starting point. My Garmin watch reported a maximum of 50ft elevation change for the two most challenging points along the blue line. There are other trail types but I haven't explored them yet. I plan to return more often for the exercise, so I'm really glad to have found this local gem!

We did a round of mini golf, which was nice. The course is mostly well maintained, though one of the holes near the end could use some work since it is a giant pit, with some cobblestone rocks acting as steps that lead down to the hole. It was a little difficult to maneuver, and I just ended up having to get one of my younger brothers to get my ball for me. Most of the holes were well down and the place had a nice grass and water feature aesthetic. Definitely something we wanted in the city. We then admired the obstacle course because it looked awesome. Climbing across surfboards dangling in the sky, bright colors. It looked awesome. We opted not to try it out this time though. We then went for a little walk on a trail. They aren't very well marked, the signs look like someone keeps knocking them down, and all of the trails sort of overlap and are visible from the others since it is literally just a little acre-ish area in the middle of the city. There was also an overflowing trash can that smelled awful, next to someone's abandoned lawn chair on the trail, but nothing a quick cleanup of the area can't fix. It is rather warm being down in a sort of gully, so I would love to see it again when all the trees are green, hopefully that would provide some nice shade. We then went to the playground and it was really nice and well-maintained, and I had to use the restroom which was IMMACULATE. This was by far the nicest playground bathroom I have ever been in, and nicer than most store and restaurant restrooms I have been in. There is also a waterpark that wasn't open yet for the season, and a large blue building that serves as the entrance to the water park, and I do wish that it had a large sign that said something to the effect of "Restrooms are in here, even when the waterpark isn't open" since we were trying to find a restroom for my 5 year old nephew after we had left the playground bathroom, and assumed that the swim building was closed, so we ran him across the parking lot to the obstacle course building assuming it would be in there, and were a little worried when we had to run him across the street when we learned it was in the blue swim building. Overall, this was a really lovely and completely unexpected outing in the middle of a crowded city. This will very likely be on our itinerary next time we have to kill time in DC.
