I know Fairfax County libraries typically have the same offerings, but this one is unique and special to me. I love how accessible this library is for walkers and bikers in the town of Herndon. You can enter from the bottom floor or the second floor from the outside. The bottom floor has conference rooms, a foyer with seating, local bulletins, and the Maker Lab. The top floor is where there's a huge communal quiet room with dividers for individual studying, the books, and computers. I would recommend chatting with any librarian here to find out everything the library has to offer. It is a LOT. I am a fan of the Maker Lab. read more

At first I was a little unsure about the parking situation since there was an outdoor and covered lot that looked like it was for another municipal building but there was an entrance to the library nearby so it was nice having the free parking. We were new to the area and it wasn't hard to get a library card. Initially we went to the help desk and were redirected to the check out counter. Once we gave them basic info like a piece of mail with our address and phone number we were able to get library cards and info about the Libby application for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines. New in 2022 there is also Kanopy, an on-demand streaming video service. Each account is assigned 5 "play credits" per month. There were a decent number of international and indie titles to choose from. Overall the library is smaller than others I have been to but it seems cozy. There seems to be a regular board game meetup that meets downstairs on Saturday. You should show up earlier rather than later from the specified time range though since after they form groups and start playing it may be harder to join in on a game until one group finishes their play session. read more

In downtown Herndon is a large building with a dome that can be seen throughout the historic center. It looks like an astrological center, but it's a public library. Named after one of Virginia's oldest women's clubs, the library underwent a major renovation. Today, it's a library and community center for a close-knit neighborhood. Here's why you should go: 1) Books: The collection is very large, especially the children's section. My four-year-old daughter sat for over an hour reading through all sorts of books from Fancy Nancy to the Bernstein Bears to Clifford. If we didn't have dinner reservations nearby, she would have spent hours there. 2) Space: The design is stunning from outside in. When you walk in through the bottom floor, you walk up a spiral staircase up to where the dome is. If you're into photography, use it as an opportunity to snap photos. 3) Amenities: They have plenty of space and wifi, making it a great library to work from. They also sell used books for very cheap on the bottom floor. My daughter found two hardback books for $1 each. If you love a good library, this one is worth the visit! read more

Took my kids to the library to return books and take a break from home. When we went to check out the lady (whom I do not want to describe by ethnicity) was very condescending. First she took a call while she sees my toddler holding books and me holding a baby who is about to loose her patience, then she ask if we were checking out... I said yes. She said do you have a library card. OBVIOUSLY I DO or I would've asked to get one. I explained my husband has our cards. She said well can't check you out without an id... OBVIOUSLY I HAVE AN ID! She then insulted me by asking if my child had the same last name. I will never come back here. I will never subject my kids to this place as long as she works there... Another Fairfax library and once again it has the same things you can expect with a Fairfax library: Good: Spectacular architecture and interior Bad: NO PRIVATE STUDY ROOMS! Granted they have a quiet room like the others which is nice and quiet but as you see with my other reviews about libraries, i study better in confinement with myself, my computer, and my textbook. We frequent this library and absolutely LOVE the staff here. Finding things to do with a toddler can be tough, but their interactive FREE classes make it easy! The little ones have a blast learning, singing, dancing and playing with friends. Their kids reading/book section is awesome. It's filled with books organized by reading level, interactive puzzle games and magnet boards. They have four "kid" sized tables with chairs that the little ones can sit at, and comfy bigger chairs for the adults. Amazing building for a public library. Fairfax county at its best structural wise. Compared to Florida libraries the overdue fees are ridiculously high. The computers are few for the amount of space they have. I wish they would set up the library differently and utilize all the space they have. Reston library is a better option for using computers. The librarians are nice in this location and want to help. They have a good system of getting books from any of the Fairfax libraries. The location is good as well since it's in the heart of Herndon and you can bike to this library since the bike trail is right there as well. ~ read more

At one point I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find the place. Then I rounded the corner, saw a huge dome on a building with a giant clay book outside, and went, "Oh." Outdoor lot and garage add up to a ridiculous amount of parking for what amounts to a sadly limited selection of books. Go in and there are tables scattered around for reading or study groups, and up the stairs... and all you see is all you get. I guess I'm biased though, going from Arlington Central library to this place is like going from foie gras to chicken nuggets. read more

Well it's a library so they have a Good selection of books, books on audio, books of all sorts, magazines... Customer service is decent enough here I think they are short on staff however!! It sucks where our tax money is cut- schools, libraries, teachers salary... List goes on!! read more

The library is small, however if used with the Fairfax County Library system you can get anything you could possibly want from it. It is nice and small, there is adequate parking, and it is right next to the police. read more

It's small but that makes it extra cozy just the way I like my libraries, although the selection seemed limited to my boyfriend I had to stop myself from taking all the books down. I love browsing their new section, you can find all sorts of fun goodies. There is a good selection of cooking books and crafting (knitting and crochet). Obviously for more selection head out to bigger libraries but for the locals, especially the kids, this seemed to me like a great place to hang out. read more

Nice library, it's very small and quite loud as a result but overall it is a comfortable place to get some work done, much better than the Reston public library. They have wifi and the librarians are helpful and courteous. I would have provided a higher rating if it were not for the noise. read more

I have been bringing my kids here for years as we live right down the street. We normally have a good experience at this branch and great interactions with the staff. However, this morning I spoke with a woman named Noreen who was extremely rude and condescending. They had literally opened three minutes before I called, so it can't even be brushed off as someone who had a rough workday. read more
