Review for the park and the cottages! We loved taking a little family vacation to cottage #3! We'd already been to Algonkian a few times and we knew it was a scenic, lively park along the Potomac River. We had always admired the cottages because they are right in the water and they look so rustic and cute. I booked the cottage on their website. One thing I will say is that I somehow didn't get a confirmation email and then I had trouble getting in contact with them. I called them and couldn't get through a few times but then I found that they are actually most responsive on Instagram. An old review mentioned bedbugs, so I initially freaked and thought I might want to cancel, but I heard back via Instagram AND phone that their cleaning precautions are super extensive now, and they haven't had a problem like that in years. (The review that scared me was 6 years old, after all.) Check in was easy and we found the cottages to be very clean and super charming. We loved the deck that spanned the back of the house, and it was very safe for kids with a tall rail across the whole thing. Cottage #3 is the smallest one with two bedrooms. (They do have bigger ones for multiple families and some have hot tubs!) There's a shower and bathroom, as well as a kitchen with everything--fridge, freezer, coffee maker, oven, stove, microwave. The only thing I can think of that it didn't have was a dishwasher. They also have a charcoal grill and picnic table outside each cottage. Wifi is also included. They also have a TV with Netflix, and super high windows in the living room and master bedroom if watching birds is more your thing. We had fun going on little hikes along the Blue Trail. I also went on a solo hike on the CountrySide trail which was better to do without small kids. Just hanging out on the riverfront is fun too. They have a boat launch and they collect money in a big pipe thing for it. One thing we were confused about--we thought there was a strict no alcohol policy, but then we read in the guest book that it was allowed in the cabins, just not out and about. During the summer, a stay in the cottage gets you free mini golfing and water park entry. We will have to come back! I do wish you could bring dogs, but I understand that would probably lower the cleanliness factor.

Great place for family outing, picnics, kayaking and nice walking trail. It is dog friendly and has quite few wildlife you can spot, the parking is great. It has a nice water park to cool off. It's a beautiful park just the restrooms could use a little clean up but otherwise we had fun.

Very nice course. Driving range is small but works for the course. Small putting range too. We walked the 18 holes on a very warm winter day. Overall a flat straight course. Tee boxes were off but it was the winter so to be expected. No complaints. Even saw a lot of deer around the course.

Liked the hiking and biking on trails. Sorry to say trails are not 100% passable by an amateur on a borrowed hybrid bike, but close to 100%. Thankfully no heat humidity or bug issues in late October. Just idyllic hours along the Potomac.

Only two park benches and a trash can, the rest of the trail is not paved.

Very nice park, scenic views. Beware of dog poop and bring trash bags when you come if planning to cook, theres not a lot of trash cans.

After some research, I thought @GolfHouse would be a great first experience for him since they offer junior coaching and it's similar to a video game. When I emailed them with questions, they were the most quick and complete in response than any of the other Ashburn area courses. At this point we're 3 sessions in. Coach Ju Hee is very professional and confident, but has just the right style to keep my 10 year old engaged. In each session she has walked the line effectively between correcting swing issues and helping him understand how the game works, while also keeping it fun and engaging for him, which is probably the most important part at this point. The sessions involved 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of free time in the bay which I'll sometimes use to take a few swings with my son. So far, this seems to be the right mix. Coach also shared the before/after swing photo I posted from session 2. While I'm not sure if other local coaches have this type of tech, I think this is a significant advantage because of the real-time feedback and insight it gives her into exactly what is happening. It's also great for us to see the progress he's making. Overall, I definitely would recommend @GolfHouse and Coach Ju Hee for lessons. At some point I'll probably book a bay with some of my friends who are more serious golfers during a lesson and see what they think about it.

They were hosting a junior championship and did not do a very good job of marshaling the pace and should have never offered play to normal customers on such a horrifically busy day for the course. We got through 18 holes in about 6.5 hours with most people along the way just giving up on the wait... To be fair when we arrived they noted a slight delay in play time due to the junior tourney but not a staggering halt...They were kind enough to give us a free ticket to come back without us even saying anything, but honestly, they should never have sold t-times knowing how bad it could be.

The rough needs to be mowed 5 inches is a bit much and it would certainly speed up play, because most average golfers can't find their balls in the rough. Secondly while I understand this is a municipal course golf etiquette is a must anywhere you play, if they had a ranger managing the course the pace of play would be suitable. This was not the case since the foursome in front of us had at least 3 open holes in front of them and would not let the faster players (a twosome) to play through. This held up the entire course, making it 4.5-hour round for two people to play. I just can't do it again for the price they charge!!!

It was really nice that each cart had a GPS map, a little cooler for drinks and you could order on there. Some of the green was muddy but only a couple of pockets. My only feedback would be that after ordering food it took a very long time for them to get to us and we were almost finished by that time. Oh, and also the cart girl was friendly! Now they want to shorten the course and build high-density housing on it to get some ROI for their investors. How about actually taking care of the course to generate more revenue!? Ryan has truly helped me improve my golf game-- I've gained 10 yds on average on my irons and 25-30+ yds on driver, my scoring average has gone down by about 10 strokes, and I have a lot more shots in my bag now. I saw significant improvement in just a few lessons, but I've continued to stick with it because Ryan has helped me improve my golf IQ. The GolfTEC setup provides a lot of data points- club and body angles, swing and ball speeds, path, etc. Ryan takes the time to explain how to interpret the data and apply it to my swing and my game. I'm able to fix my swing on the course when needed because he's helped me understand it better. I've heard people say GolfTEC has a one-size-fits-all rather than individual approach, but that has not been my experience. Ryan is always working and thinking about the next step to elevate my game; he is always thinking about a plan and how each lesson contributes to my goals. The lessons are very interactive-- I ask questions, discuss the concepts, watch videos. Ryan takes the time to make sure I understand. He is a great coach. He is very professional and knowledgeable, and has always treated me with nothing but respect and kindness. A+++ Would recommend to beginners and experienced golfers alike. Two of my beginner friends have also taken lessons from Ryan, and they've made big improvements.
