This library has no sense of quiet at all. The employees often speak loudly and seem unaware of how much noise they are making. They also do not ask other visitors to lower their voices, even when people are having loud conversations. A library should be a peaceful place to read, study, and concentrate, but that is very difficult here. The staff should make a greater effort to maintain a quiet environment. THEIR IS LITERALLY A MAN SLEEPING AND SNORING SO LOUDLY and the staff has said/done nothing. This is unacceptable!!! read more

Each and every time I visit this library in the area. It tops out as one of my most favorite locations because of the overall ambiance. The library is nicely organized and spaced out throughout. It can be a busy and robust location with visits coming and going. Yet, never too much noise. Staff is helpful when asked for assistance. I am not normally a library person - this library truely has something for everyone. We we drawn in during the halloween season for trick or treat with the librarians. We started in the kid's section - where we discovered amazing, friendly, festive staff - that were dressed to the parts and entertained the child we brought. We also were happy to find so many young reader books categorized by age and SO MANY LANGUAGES! We will be back! We then made our way upstairs to discover young reader books, non-fiction and ended at the imagination lab where they presented us with 3D printed ghost book mark holders. We explored that room more and found T-shirt presses, 3D print machines, wood burning, sewing and more. With class schedules and with open sessions. We were surprised that libraries had this technology and it was open for all. We signed up for a library card - probably my first one since high school. I will be back to try out some crafts and hopefully get into some great books! read more

What a beautiful library! Plenty of parking is available. The library is spacious, organized, and clean. Employees are so kind, patient, and helpful. Semra was so sweet to give us a tour of the library. Tania was also very helpful, both were so knowledgeable. Thank you! Our kids love coming here, they have a wonderful kids section. Restrooms are also spacious and clean. There are self check out computers, with easy to follow directions. You can print out a receipt at the end as well, which lists all the books you are borrowing. Book return is just as easy. You will find book drop off machines towards the entrance. We couldn't be happier with Gum Spring Library. read more

This library is amazing! They have a great children's section with computers, play areas (train table, blocks, legos, puzzles), story times all week and special events through the year. The 3D print lab is upstairs and they have lessons on how to use it. The library does a great job of holding events for all ages. The library also allows you to check out nature backpacks that have activities to let you visit local parks - definitely a fun activity to do with the family. read more

the library setting is not for people who try to study without interruptions It has only 4 privet rooms for only 4 people unlike Chantilly one that have two privet sector that can take at least 20 hard studying people. The 2nd floor:You can hear all the noise from the kids area. the 4 privet rooms are only for 2 hours but nobody can get you out of it !!! which make it bad because you either respect the rule and can't study for 6 straight hours or just ignore the rules read more

Checked out the Gum Springs Library with the kids today. Overall, it was pretty nice. compared to the Sterling Library it is much bigger and spacious. There was a lot of neat stuff to check out. The children's section was large which in one sense was nice, but when you have two kids under 5 you want to be able to see them both at the same time and with shelves taller than them it was harder. Check out was pretty cool. It was a self check-out where the computer scans the book for you. Pretty high tech, but I do miss having a real live person check us out. read more

Left my house to get away from my loud, screaming siblings and get some studying in, only to come here and listen to more screaming children downstairs. - I know it's hard to keep kids quiet, but like I said before.. this is a library and not a play ground/daycare center. I really wish the apathetic librarians would do something about this instead of ignoring everything that goes on inside. read more

Four years after the originally-scheduled opening, we finally have a library in this area of Loudoun County. Much-anticipated, I am glad to see it finally be realized. The layout is good, and they have a decent amount of most anything you may be looking for. Computer terminals are plentiful. Audiobooks are plentiful for those who commute and want to learn or have some entertainment on the road. They even have recent Blu-ray and DVD videos you can check out. There's a good selection of books for the kids, too. If there's something you can't find, they can probably get ahold of it from one of the other county libraries, or on loan from elsewhere. The staff were helpful and able to answer our questions. Overall, the experience has been positive thus far. read more

I love books therefore I love Gum Spring Library. This place is clean, bright, and new who doesn't love a good library ?! They also have tons of meeting rooms, and I particularly love the quiet room when I want to zone in and just read in peace. Tons of events going on for kids, and a great place for the community! Very clean and lots of books and others. They have different sections for teenagers, children, etc. I went to get some work done and because I didn't want to drive all the way to George Mason. I wanted to use a study room, but it was all taken up by some kids. The study rooms were more like group study rooms. I wish they have individual. Not really much else to say as I did not go to check out any books, but it was clean. Seemed to have a large selection of books by looking around. Hopefully next time I can find a quiet room to do my work. read more

The reviews about the noisy environment weren't wrong! This place sounds like a preschool during lunchtime: kids screaming, crying, talking, climbing furniture (at all hours). And staff are mostly not that much more quiet. Nobody seems to have heard the concept of "whispering" in the library. Staff and patrons exchange greetings and catch up with one another by yelling over aisles of books, like it's the local supermarket; teenagers have social hour talking and laughing/giggling at regular pitch; and it gets so loud sometimes, front desk staff have to raise their voice to be heard by patrons at the check out desk. I've *never* seen such a chaotic scenario in any library, anywhere in the country. If the library cared enough, there have been enough complaints about noise in reviews here alone for them to get a hint, but apparently, it's no big deal to Gum Spring Library. Quiet library? What's THAT? A small part of the problem is the architectural design of the building: the open center creates a drum, so sounds vibrate and spread all over (who hired that architect??), but if "quiet" was observed, it'd not be as problematic. The library is nice enough. The material available is decent, and they have copiers, computers with internet, a nice DVD and BluRay selection, audio books, so forth. You know, library things. But the NOISE....oh my GOD. I could only stand 10 minutes in this place before I took off. Not a library to have peace and quiet in, whatsoever! read more

I'm so happy that Gum Spring Library opened this year. I moved to this area almost two years ago and was so sad that no library was around yet until Gum Spring opened! I've gone here a couple of times and have pleasant experiences. Got my library card and started checking out books. The selection isn't all that great yet. The art section is so little and I'm hoping that more books will be added to the listing. They have large print books, audio, computer stations, and study rooms. **This is a library so lots of children and kids are here** It does tend to get a bit noisy. (One time--I was looking at the kids that were making a ruckus and they sweetly apologized for the noise.) The great thing about this library/this county's libraries is that when you get a card--go online! Find the books you want to read and request them! It's a great feature and I use it lots! If Gum Spring doesn't have your book and another library does--they will transit the book(s) to Gum Spring for you. It's great. They will notify you (if you choose for email notifications) and you can go to the library to pick it up at the holding book racks. I love it here! It's modern, there's parking, it's clean. The library is very nice but I don't get the point of have a kids area, adults area and teens area. Kids are everywhere crying, screaming. Teenagers are always talking and playing with their phones. If you complain there is nothing they can do. Libraries use to be a place for people to set and do their work without any distractions it now I guess the only place left is home. I understand that things are changing but somethings needs to be the way they use to. read more

This is hands down my favorite library. The place is typically quiet, except in the kids area. There are lots of tables and chairs and rooms. They also have a great assortment of things other than books, like DVDs, BluRay, CDs, and tablets for kids. The workers/volunteers are super friendly and helpful. Their internet is pretty good for a public place. They have computers for kids to play Minecraft. They also have directories geared towards kids to help them look for books. read more

I never thought I'd write a review for my local library, but for the last hour I've been pondering about this good ol' library. I had to stop by in recent weeks to use the computer and Internet access as the computer in my home office decided to part ways and display the blue screen of death. I come here quite often and there should be signs for parents to not let their screaming kids to run around and jump all over the big colorful curvy furniture. There is not one quiet place in the entire library. That being said, there needs to be more places to work. You cannot find a place to work if you don't show up right at 10am. There is tons of open space but there are no study cubes and only a few desks. read more

4.0 star rating 6/04/2019 Updated review Saying upfront that this library's existence has helped me a lot over the last five years and I truly do appreciate it. The library itself is great - printers, copier downstairs, children's and grown-up sections, computers, study rooms, incredible DVD and book selection, etc. There are a few side notes though that I think will help other visitors. In my experience I would say 80% of the employees are genuinely nice and try to be helpful to all people. From there, the other 20% are very condescending and have a-better-than-you attitude toward many visitors to the library who are from the U.S.. I am personally a bit of a germaphobe so I would suggest that if you are nervous about becoming sick to wear a nose/mouth mask. The majority of the patrons do not engage in covering their mouths as they cough and it is quite frequent - I don't think it's on purpose; they just don't think about it. There are a lot of children who visit [which is good for them to go to library] though be prepared as they do get loud and the employees are not allowed to say anything to them. I think as humans it's important to respect each other and keep in mind there are common courtesies we should show to each other and if each of us can remain respectful and adult - even as the majority of others are too weak to do so - that eventually the U.S. will be a nation of respectful adults as it was long ago. By the way there is a good amount of parking this location and the parking spaces have room to park a vehicle comfortably. read more

I love the this library. Very clean and plenty of space and books. The noise issue is true. Kids scream all the time; however, the staff does try and contain it. They don't ignore it as claimed. I have seen a staff member ask a child to quite down 5 times in a row, only to be ignored. The staff can't do much about it as they can't discipline the child or kick them out. Parents should take the responsibility of keeping their children quite. read more

My kids keep begging me to bring them to this library. Clean and modern with a great selection of books and media. The children's library is equipped with a Lego station, toy train station, computers, books, CDs, and DVDs. This library is great. Obviously books but what makes it great is the many events they have for kids on a regular basis and the learning computers they have. They also have mega blocks and train sets out for kids to play with. I try to bring my 3 and 5 yr old here whenever possible and let them roam and they love it. It does get a bit loud at times bc it's so popular with younger kids but it's worth it. The only improvement I would have is to somehow make the computers louder or have smaller head phones so they fit kids better. read more

Great library and motif, but the noise from screaming children and rudeness abounds! This is the 2nd time I came seeking a quiet place (like days of Libraries past) and left finding none. If I'm reading this new library experience correctly, I should send my 3 children to the library so I can get some quiet time to study. The 2nd visit I found a quiet place to study close to others of like mindedness (upstairs). Three people with two children (2yrs old) sat down conducting a conversation at a level commensurate to a soccer match while trying to keep their children at bay. read more
