Dr. Cubba was my doctor in the 1990's and I will always remember his excellent care. Thank you for being there!

I fail to see how a Dr living in Spain can be an effective personal doctor. They have associates, I'm sure. If you want to be taken care of by a consortium of Dr's, that your business. But I would prefer one person, one person to rely on and to compliment or complain about when things go wrong. You should not have to see your Dr thru a two dimensional tv screen. I thought I had a reliable San Francisco doctor. He turned out to be the money grubbing type that flew away from San Francisco at the first chance his patient's money would allow.

I've been a patient for many years. Unfortunately for me I'm back at Kaiser, which is better insurance but less good care. Someday I'll be back. In the meantime you should take my place. Why? You ask. Because Maura provides excellent care. She and the staff are smart and they aren't your typical "get through the day" employees. They all seem to enjoy their day and each other. Plus, what really makes them exceptional is their sense of humor. This is a nifty treat for those of us who savor this human behavior. It's hard to get it right. Too much and it is contrived and distracting. Too little and it's, well, humourless. Dr Moser's office gets it right.

Dr. Owen's continually expanding store of knowledge in the treatment of HIV never ceases to amaze me. He has participated in every HIV conference no matter where in the world it was held and he always comes back to his practice refreshed and with incredible new insights as to how to treat this controllable condition. I credit Dr. Owen's continually expanding knowledge and commitment to his practice and patients as the reason I remain healthy, happy and joyously alive. I see from other reviews that some have been a little off put by the transition from paper records to electronic. I will admit that it was cumbersome and time consuming but now that the system is up and fully operational, I find it an amazing tool to help me understand and follow my treatment and progress. In preparation for my upcoming quarterly physical exam I had my blood drawn for testing two weeks before my appointment. A week after visiting the lab I received a call from Dr. Owen asking how I was feeling? Not the best question you can hope to be asked by your physician. I told him that I felt terrific. Since recently retiring and having finally finished a long drawn out divorce from my last partner, I was actually feeling euphoric and better than ever. He told me that the lab report showed a completely different story. My t-cell count and percentage of t-helper cells had completely collapsed from their previous levels. Since he was able to look at the charting of my history on the new electronic record he could see that something was really wrong. He assured me that since I was feeling great that there must be some mix-up at the lab. I returned to the lab the following morning and had my blood redrawn. Within 36 hours I received another call from Dr. Owen letting me know that there had certainly been some mistake at the lab. All numbers were now up in my historic ranges. The Sutter Health "My health Online" allows me to follow the same data that the doctor does. I find it an invaluable tool. It was certainly a relief to see the anomaly of the first set of lab work compared to my history and redone testing. I consider myself privileged to be under the expert care of Dr. Bill Owen.

I was able to see Dr. Owen once; however, one must book an appointment far in advance because he is too busy. After the initial visit, the staff will tell you that Carl Stein (the PA, NOT a Doctor) is the only option unless you want to wait a few months. Carl Stein is an extremely rude person who spoke to me as if I were a child. I found myself dreading each appointment and finally decided that it was not worth the anxiety before and during appointments there and found another doctor. It is obvious that this practice is after the dollar more than out to help patients. The base price for my initial exam was around $450 and only took about 20 minutes. I realize prices are more expensive here in San Francisco but it seemed very greedy to me. Please don't make the same mistake that I did. There are much better options in San Francisco.

My urogynecologist had recently performed a cystoscopy and found a couple of bladder cysts. She told me they did not appear serious but referred me for follow-up. I attended my appointment expecting to discuss those findings and understand the next steps. Instead, the visit lasted only a few minutes. Dr. Grady exchanged pleasantries, asked how I was doing, and then told me to return in six months. I left without understanding the purpose of my referral, whether the bladder findings required any further evaluation, or why a six-month follow-up was recommended. Later that same day, my primary care physician asked whether Dr. Grady had looked inside my bladder to evaluate the cysts. When I told her he had not, she seemed surprised. That made me even more confused about the purpose of the appointment. As a disabled patient, attending specialist appointments requires transportation coordination and significant effort. I made the trip believing the appointment would answer important medical questions. Instead, I left feeling that my concerns had not been addressed and that my time had not been respected. My criticism is not that the appointment was brief. A brief appointment can still be excellent if the doctor explains the diagnosis, the purpose of the visit, and the treatment plan. Unfortunately, I received very little explanation, and I left with more questions than answers. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Grady because I did not feel informed, listened to, or given a clear understanding of my care.

I believe he basically said 'I dont feel comfortable making this decision alone" so he called some other docs more familliar with a case like mine. He does lots of research, makes sure Im getting routine tests done when on antibiotics and such to monitor kidney and liver levels etc. Basically he knows his stuff and his limits but will do research to expand his knowledge base and he will tell you that (at least for me, he keeps me updated on his thought processes). He has maybe a "dry" sense of humor but it fits me and my parents and we get along great with little jokes here and there. Also I am 22 so Im at that stage where my parents opinions can matter or not to a doctor (or to me haha) but he always explains things to them as well and includes them. In all honesty I would love to try Stanford as a hospital but because of Goodman (and Dr. Brown and their team efforts in taking care of me) there is no way I could leave such great quality healthcare. If you read this Goodman, Thanks! And dont make fun of me.
