Trails are twisty, rugged, steep downhill and uphill . Some trails are loose gravel and weak soil- careful, one can easily loose footing. Pathways are filled with brush and can mildy be abrasive. Steep hills and rock climbing over large boulders will be part of the hike. Once on the upper trails, its a roller coaster ride of fast trails.. There are 3 main trails - lower os the Cole trail - main trail is the wiashal trail and the surrounding trail is big rock scramble. The main trail would be the wiashal trail and cris crosses the entire range. Initial trail of Cole is around 2 miles... including the big rock scramble would be another 2 1.5 miles and the wiashal trail is around 4 miles or more. On a good walk jog run bike or horse ride - from 2.5 miles to 10 miles can be expected- depending on your skill level. This path is easy moderate and difficult. Parking can be accessible via street parking via Cole canyon entry or wiashal entry or by Clinton Keith road - only thing missing... signs - markers- maybe a bench or two ..a water fountain at the entrance or a map... all those would have given it a better score...

And while over the years it…read moredefinitely has shown its age, the city generally does a good job of keeping it as well maintained as possible. It's got a good selection of baseball and soccer fields and playgrounds for both youth sports and just a fun time outside the home (or, let's be honest, for younger kids to play while their bigger siblings play organized sports). They do have a snack bar, but honestly I tend to just bring my own food when I come here. There's no need to pay for overpriced snacks in my opinion. Parking is ok. The lot size is decent, but if there's a big game going on, there's a good chance you'll have to find street parking. And that means you might not only have to park a bit way, but also on a hill so just be prepared for that.

I still remember as if it was just yesterday…read more.. We had just stopped by to visit a family friend in Carmel on our way to L.A. Instead of taking the normal route, my parents opted to take the long way there. I was in the back seat, staring out the window at the beautiful scenery. I was in my early teens back then, and this was the song playing on the radio... "Oh, It's you Sweet Baby Ever always been captured by your smile, Sweet baby I will always be right there by your side Right by your side..." (Sweet Baby by Stanley Clarke) As most teens do, I was lost in my thoughts - pensive and focused, wondering what life would be like once I met such a girl. I imagined what a fantastic road trip it would be to take this imaginary girl on a date through this magnificent highway as we visited all the small towns along the way. I've managed to make that young man's dream come true. I found the girl and took her in a myriad of phenomenal dates. I've lived a lifetime filled with love, passion, and wonder. And I have driven down these roads dozens of times in various convertibles - which, by the way, is mandatory for full enjoyment of the beautiful scenery that you are greeted with as you wind down these roads heading south! It's the reason why whenever we visit my family in Northern California, I always endeavor to make the 10-hour trek along the coast. That way, we can always take the long way home. If you don't like road trips because of the dreadful scenery, PCH is a panacea for road trip blues. It's a shot of adrenaline that will engender you to the point that you will want to keep coming back for more to get your fix. When heading south, just past Carmel, you will be greeted with spectacular views of winding roads, the beautiful Pacific Ocean, coast lines that go on for miles, blue skies, flowers, and amazing sunsets. And to top it all off, there are some of the cutest and most idyllic towns to visit along the way. San Luis Obispo is one of our favorites, especially for the fact that is it a very artsy town with plenty of opportunities for poetic expression. My wife was, at one time, a sought-after poet in the local Arizona Poetry scene. So, any situation or place that gets her inspired is fine by me - even if we must drive 12 hours to get there. Then, there's the various historical landmarks along the way, as well. Hearst Castle is a favorite destination of ours. These spots can't be missed! Then, there's the Elephant Seals at San Simeon. There they are, just basking in the sun with nary a care in the world. We often just sit here, enjoy the beautiful ocean view, stare at the seals, and watch the sun set. I always become so pensive whenever we traverse this highway. Even though many years have passed since my first trip here as a teen, I still can't imagine how amazing my life has been, and how lucky I am to have found such an amazing woman in my wife. With our convertible top down, she stares in awe and wonder towards the coastline on her right. As I drive, I catch glimpses her beauty, and as always, I am in awe! The Pacific Ocean is a majestic backdrop to our seemingly endless love affair. I am controlled by her every whim. Stopping when told for picture opportunities, and wandering through the myriad of quaint little towns, I follow this wistful blonde through her child like exploration and discovery. And I, myself, rediscover just how I am overflowing with love for her. If I could capture all those moments that we have enjoyed these road trips through PCH, If I could pick the moments that being with her, enjoying the time that we spent together, these moments could possibly be summed up in this one particular song... I visited here after the devastating fires that took so many homes and properties. It was…read moreincredible to see that most of the burned down houses were not being rebuilt but there were for sale signs instead. From the road, the cliffs showed just how beautiful the water was below that was rarely seen by the passersby cars. There was not much traffic as there were few things to stop at along the way.

A little bit of green near the Ocean, Alamitos Park provides parking and lifeguard building for the…read morefar-most SE point in Long Beach. It also has access to the furthest point of Alamitos Beach, which starts in downtown Long Beach, through Belmont Shores, and gets very close to Seal Beach. The sandy area just south of the park is called Alamitos Park Beach. There were huge, manmade sand berns protecting the houses facing the ocean, which made viewing the ocean more difficult. But one could 'camp' at the top of the berns, overlooking the rocks, to get some wonderful views. We could see the skyline of Long Beach, and the giant cranes of the Port of Long Beach. The area was pretty empty , except for the fisherman who came to test their skill/luck at the outcropping of rocks extending far into the ocean (learned that they can be called jetty, headland, groyn, or breakwater). We ended up spending 3 hours here, enjoying the views, weather. This is also where the lifeguard building is, and where my wife stopped by to get sandbags filled in preparation for any big storms. As for the park itself, it has a few stone tables where one could sit and watch the boats sail by from the Bay into the Ocean. This is where the sailing competition of the next Summer Olympics will be held...figures it will be a lot more crowded then (and hopefully not so much dog droppings in the grass).

I wouldn't rate this trail any higher than a 3.5 stars. Been to many trails that offer more…read moreamenities, such as maps of the location, drinking fountains a parking lot and even multiple trail options. Its a good trail, the first mile is uphill. Slight incline of about 5%. The road ends at the entrance, but its on a residential street. Careful though, lots of speeders that fail to realize its a 15mph zone not a 40mph. Upscale neighborhood, so please be respectful of people's property and clean up after yourself. Trails are difficult, when jogged ran ot even on bikes. As you enter beyond the initial 1 mile uphill, the trail becomes unpaved and dirt like with steep small hills. The scenery is nice, and the road is ample. But it is a considered a modertae skill ability location. Positive things, it connects to.other hills sides and the return trip is fantastic ypu go.uphill then return on a down hill slope.
