I have always loved shopping at the various thrift stores in Birmingham, way before it was trendy. This one happens to be one that's close to where I live, and one of my favorites. Over the years, I have found some really great pieces-from clothing and shoes, to handbags, to furniture...I've found treasures! If you go and don't find what you're looking for, stop back another day. If you see something you want, get it then because someone else will beat you to it! Prices have gone up over the years but you're still saving money from what the item originally cost. Lovelady Center, located not far from the store, helps women get back on their feet after going through tough times. They turn your donations into profit that helps them support their residents. In fact, most, if not all, the ladies that work here, are connected to Lovelady in some way. They are either current residents or have been helped in the past. You should really look up their story. If you like to shop, especially in thrift stores, you must check them out! read more

I have shopped in this store several times and I will continue to do so, because the service is very, very good. There is a wide variety of donated items to choose from at reasonable prices. And the positive impact of the Associates working as fast as possible to replenish each section of the store is heartwarming. Got to give this store a 5 star simply because it's serving women that are in need of some sort of help. I have been to LoveLady Center with my church and we mentored to them and they are wonderful ladies. This store has some nice items. Probably the biggest thrift store I have ever been too with great selections for reasonable prices.

Extremely disappointing and frustrating experience. I've been a loyal customer here since I moved to Birmingham 10 months ago. On my last trip, I wanted to purchase two bags and neither had a price tag (one had a tag attached by no price written on it.) The sales associate said they could not sell me the bags since there was no price tag, which I understand but then I was told there was no policy in place to hold the items and no timeframe or any sort of solution. I was told I would just have to take my chances and come back another day since the people who price the items get off at 3 pm. I came back TWICE the next day at 11 am and 6 pm, hoping to find the bags that I really wanted to purchase and they weren't there either time. The sales associates were unwilling to go to the back to check and see if the bags were still waiting to be priced or any sort of solution. I'm disappointed as I loved supporting the mission of this store, but this experience has been very frustrating and I won't be shopping here again. Is this how business is usually done? read more

I stumbled into Lovely Lady Thrift Store thinking I could find some hidden gems, but I was sorely mistaken. The place reeks of mothballs and despair, like it hasn't seen a cleaning crew since the Reagan administration. The clothes are so outdated they could double as costumes for a 1980s horror movie. I wouldn't be surprised if I caught something contagious just by browsing. If you value your health and your sense of smell, steer clear of this biohazard. Whenever I travel, I like to check out the local thrift stores. This one was near my hotel, so before leaving the area I checked it out. This is a large store with lots of stuff. I bought several shirts. If I had not been flying home I would have purchased a couple large items. It's worth your time if you're in the area. read more

This store is in serious need of new management. I've shopped here for many years and now my pleasant shopping experience has turned to frustration. The prices are jacked up much too high. Management needs to be reminded that this is used clothing! Name brands shouldn't matter when it's in a thrift store. Also the dressing rooms have been closed for 2 years and going into the 3rd year now. I believe this is laziness that the management doesn't want to put the items back on the racks. I have shopped here for YEARS! They have a great selection. BUT the prices have gotten way out of control. While this is a ministry set up to help people, it is also a service to the community. People shop thrift stores because they need thrift store prices, not sale prices at new clothing stores. They price clothing according to brand. It is still USED clothing. It is really sad when someone comes to a thrift store and can't afford the prices even there. The prices are my biggest complaint. I used to spend so much more money here when the prices were right. And now the dressing rooms are closed. Also a preventative from buying. They have loyal customers like me, but I don't really feel the loyalty back. read more

This is the one of the few thrift stores that's tax free. I tend to stop here every time while shopping in the Crestwood area. The place do a good job on keeping things organized and every time I'm here, there always a fresh scent in the store. This thrift store is my favorite in Birmingham because it's the best. It's so large! The building used to be a circuit city, so there is plenty of space. They fill the space with a large selection of used stuff, and most if it isn't even broken! Lovelady thrift store supports a great cause, so prices may be slightly higher than other local thrift shops The employees are kind and helpful. You can tell that they enjoy assisting customers; they don't drag their feet while doing so. There are never long lines. When they need to open a register somebody steps in and helps out instead of hiding. I only rate this location with 4 stars because the dressing rooms need an update. (1 door had the lock missing, and they get skipped when cleaning) For the record, some Birmingham thrift stores don't even have bathrooms. I always loved thrift stores in college because they were a great place to find attire for theme parties. But my theme parties are not able to be tallied by semesters anymore. They are now seen with years in between. So the thrift store clothes are not something that I am super interested in. Perhaps I should look again with a thrifty, adult point of view. But I haven't reached that point yet. All that to be said, if you are a thrift store clothes kind of person, you should look no further than Lovelady. The racks are sprawling throughout this enormous space. If I do have an interest in thrift stores, it is the other "stuff" that is fun to restore or repurpose. The selection of these items are not quite as bountiful as the clothes. But you never know when you might fight a gem. Housewares are another thing that fascinate me. But my wife has a much stronger fascination with organization and lack of clutter that I probably don't want to rock the boat on. Plus, how much of it do I really need. Here is where I sit at 3 stars on my review. But this is our primary drop off spot whenever we have donations. And the fact that this thrift store serves a meaningful purpose with jobs and its finances, gives it a big boost. The ladies that work here are always very friendly and they have very convenient drop off hours and accessibility (a pull up loading dock with plenty of spaces). While I found a couple of nice things, they were overpriced for thrift store shopping--some of the things I found were priced more expensive than I could have found them new at TJ Maxx, and they're used! There's also no fitting room and their return policy is for store credit only. If you're going to charge that much and not give returns, you really need fitting rooms. I feel like I'm writing a lot of reviews about mid-level department stores and thrift shops. I look back at my life two years ago when it was all champagne and Barney's and guess what? I don't miss it at all :) Embracing the "kirppis" or "flea market" lover inside me, I spend a lot of time digging for gold in all kinds of places around Europe. I spend a fortune Monday, and repent on Tuesday by shopping secondhand. It all works out. While visiting Birmingham, I've hit up a number of these larger thrift shops and this is by far my favorite. I have a kid. I know, I know...I mention him in every review but I have to because he has completely dominated my life with his pesky need for things like food, clothes, and shelter. Oy! So while he has a lot of designer labels, I buy a lot of them second hand. He's a year old. He doesn't know the difference. Yet. This is a wonderland for scavengers. It's huge. I personally have not found many things for myself, but I haven't really looked. I come for kid's clothes, books, and other accoutrements. I've totally scored new or almost-new Gymboree, Janie and Jack, BabyGap, Tea Collective, Converse, Nike, Stride Rite for my son. I don't think I've dropped more than $3 on a single piece or pair of shoes for him. Kid's books are 4 for 99 cents. That's insane. In a good way. I can say that there are a lot of designer labels here for adults, too. Everything is very clean, newer, in new or close to it condition. Not anything like some of the nasty places I've been to. Come for the kids clothes (the girls' clothes are BEAUTIFUL! Everything is immaculate) and books. Maybe find something for yourself (?). Super clean for a thrift shop and not smelly, musty, or disorganized like other thrift shops. Four big shiny stars!! read more

One of 2 of my favorite thrift stores in Birmingham. Usually, I can find 1-3 articles of clothing that are reasonably cheap and pretty nice to wear. Each department is very spacious and overflowing with stuff for the entire family. One can really find some cool stuff as long as you search through aisle you're interested in. Unfortunately during this visit, the jeans I wanted were a size too small, the sweater had a hole, and the pajamas set (only $3 and cheetah print!!) was too small, so I walked out with nothing. However, my girlfriend got a jean jacket for a couple bucks and some pants. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be visiting again. read more

While I believe in the mission of the Lovelady Center, I sadly have to rate the thrift store with only two stars. This use to be the nicest thrift store around Birmingham. Upon entering I knew something seemed a little different. The fresh scent that usually welcomed you was no longer there. It was dim. The clothing did not have the same organization that you could usually find every visit. Employees are no longer all wearing pink shirts. While I was a bit disappointed that the store had declined, the worst part was when I walked into the restroom. As I entered, a texting employee exited. Usually no big deal but I looked over and both toilets were both unflushed and seemed to have been that way for some time. Their restroom was the only thrift store restroom I would use. The only reason I ended up making a purchase was due to needing the item that night. When I checked out, I asked the cashier if management had switched hands. She replied yes, can you tell? My response was yes, but it's not a good thing. read more

I have visited this store regularly for a while. I'm mainly looking for small furniture to restyle or housewares to use for decorating. Today I decided I really don't need to return--prices are way too high. China cabinets and old tv cabinets for $200 to $300. Small chest and coffee tables for $100 to $150. After years of shopping at loveladys, I went by July the 6 2019. I was amazed at the High very HIGH prices will not be shopping here again!!

I found some real gems here. The staff was friendly and patient with some difficult customers. I look forward to returning.

The clothes here are pretty nice however, the prices now compared to the prices in the past are significantly higher! When I went the other night I was looking for shorts for work and the mens shorts were in no particular order the sizes were all just mixed together..... This is one of the larger thrift stores in our area. I use to find all kinds of great items at great prices, but they keep going up on their prices. Things will still be sitting there a month later when I come because they are priced too high. Some of the racks you can hardly go through because they are so full. Nice large store and I found a great thousand+ dollar couch for $150. The only thing I don't like about it is that there are no exchanges or refunds on their clothing, which most thrift stores do allow. I blew about $25 on clothes I can't wear. read more
