This review is based on opinions I formed after my personal experience. After writing a google review Jana took me to small claims court suing me for $10,000 over a review reflecting my opinion on her rude treatment of my wife and I. The judge found the lawsuit frivolous, promptly dismissed it and awarded me counter suit of twice what I asked for. Jana never paid this. She also contacted both my previous employer and current employer in attempt to get me in trouble for my opinions. I wrote my review on principle, that we can't let bullies win, in my opinion that is exactly what she is. My google review eventually was deleted as well as many others. What an amazing trip. We just drove round trip 3600 miles to pick up our trained pup from Jana. We took our 18 month old dogs so they could see their sibling Joey. I was concerned to see how Joey would react to us and his siblings after reading information here on Yelp. I was pleasantly surprised to see a very happy loving guy. He gave me, my hubby and daughter lots of happy wiggly tails and loves. It was very hard to leave him when we left as we have 2 of his litter mates. Jana's new location in Montana is very pretty and has plenty of room for all her pups to run and roam. I loved that we got to meet all of her pups as we toured inside her house. We even got to get some 10 week old puppy kisses. I must say the inside of Jana's home is much cleaner and well organized than mine which only has 3 dogs in it. As usual Jana walked my husband through what our pup had learned and reminded him how to continue to reinforce the training while at home. She must keep detailed notes on each of her pups as she sent me a message after we left and told us she had changed the way our last dog was trained and this new pup. Over all I am truly impressed with how Jana runs her business and keeps all of her dogs in the air conditioned house with her. Becoming a first time dog owner and someone who is "analysis/paralysis", to say I did my homework would be an understatement. Jana was an amazing combination of knowledge and passion - she loves her dogs and makes sure that their new homes will have the same level of love and care. Her attention to detail and cautionary approach is evident in the quality of her "kids". I had my heart set on a lighter chocolate lab w/lighter eyes (blue eyes would have been perfection) as a hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking buddy. Jana was patience as she walked me through the process. I am the proud owner of Bodhi - handsome, chocolate son of Hitch & Faith - and couldn't be happier. His smarts are off the charts - learned to sit within 24 hours of coming home at 7 weeks and training has really been a breeze although social distancing has stall his socialization (he loves everyone and everything though). He keeps me on my toes as I'm learning as much as his is. While I didn't get him for hunting, I can attest to his "soft mouth" - even though "drop it" isn't in his vocabulary yet, he can be SO gentle with what's in his mouth. Just returned from our long drive from Montana and picked up my young chocolate Labrador from Jana. He is a bundle of energy and happiness. He is now about 9 months old as he has been in waterfowl training for about 3 months now. Although he's a typical happy lab he knows when we get ready to do out trainings exercises that Jana gave me to do he places in his spot and is so eager to do his retrieves. Most of her dogs are super birdie . We adopted 2 siblings as well and both love to go after the birds. While we were there Jana took us into her home and introduced her to her other labs. All of them were in their air conditioned rooms as the afternoon can get a little toasty out there. All her dogs were well mannered and friendly, made me want to take home a few more, especially our 2 male siblings brother Joey. I guess Joey came back a little under weight and wasn't happy with his former owners. But when we saw him a few days ago he was your typical happy ,healthy,and a bundle of joy Labrador. Couldn't even tell he came back unhappy. He acted just like his brothers, his tail never stopped wagging . We were so happy to see this as he now will have a great life..Hunters if you're looking for a great hunting dog with great lines and great personalities please consider Jana . Beware of this Breeder who does not honor her contract. We have had a 10 year relationship with Jana Love and gotten 4 dogs from her previously. Our son wanted a new dog after finally getting over the loss of his beloved Bentley-a rescue dog we got from her almost 10 years before. She had moved from Oregon to CA. He wanted to get a started dog 3 to 6 months old but she only had dogs over a year old. She immediately recommended Joey for Michael as the perfect dog for him (our son renamed him Jax). We had complete trust in her so drove 11 hours down to see him & pick him up & bring him home. Once home he was extremely nervous around almost everything people, buildings, doorways, his refection in glass, etc. He was close with our son and played with our 2 lab dogs especially our 2 year old male but this nervous situation continued so after 2 weeks we decided to engage a professional dog Behaviorist/Trainer ($1500). We advised Jana of this right away & that we were going to work with a professional to try to help him adapt. The behaviorist said he had never met a dog that was so nervous. He believed since this dog was 14 months old and lived in a rural environment with 1 person & many dogs is struggling with this new environment and probably didn't have the proper socialization period as a pup. He had experience adapting other dogs like this previously but said no guarantee since all dogs are different. Over the next several weeks it appeared some progress was being made but then things reversed and unfortunately after 10 weeks of visits with behaviorist it appeared he was not going to change. Our son was heartbroken and tried everything he could think of ordering a calming jacket and natural oil scent that was to promote calmness that did not work. We kept Jana up to date on all of this through routine email updates. She told us after a few weeks that she just remembered that Joey was placed with a man who then returned him 2 weeks later since he was going to travel more with his job. This was a huge red flag to us and she should have told us upfront but chose not to. She agreed to take him back and our son who loved Jax knew he needed to get him back to a rural environment where he would be more comfortable. We then set up a private transport ($2250) for him to be driven alone direct from us in Oregon to her now located in Montana (14+ hours). It was expensive but we knew this trip was going to add a lot of extra anxiety for him and felt this was the best option to minimize stress. She gets him back and immediately accuses us of mis-treating him saying he's 10-15 pounds underweight and has lost muscle mass so will not refund the $2K my son spent since he was not healthy that is ridiculous. She told us his max weight would be 75 pounds. I have attached a note from our last vet appointment on 5-19-23 where they list his weight as 64 pounds, body condition is Ideal, and overall assessment Excellent. Our vet said dogs can take up to 2 years to get to their full weight. He is 1.5 years old now with 6 months to go so right on track per our vet. She said he was completely fine when we picked him up which was not true. We told her immediately of his nervous condition once we got back home. I attached a couple of pictures of Jax from April & May--you tell me if this dog looks mistreated--NOT. If she will turn on us, loyal customers for 10 years, she will turn on anybody. From the first time we met we knew we wanted one of her dogs as you could tell how much she cared about them and the dogs were all so good looking and smart. Do you want to deal with a terrible person when buying a dog? Go with Jana Love! I don't leave very many reviews, but she took down her Google Reviews some how. Jana Love treats her dogs and clients poorly. She keeps her dogs in the smallest metal kennel that sits on top of her truck. She will doubt everything about you as a human in order to get one of her dogs. Oh and then she will take your money from you. Additionally, her dogs will and do have some kind of issues. The dog we received from her has had mouth/teeth and major hip issues. I would NEVER get a dog from her again or even refer my worst enemy to get a dog from her! read more

The dogs of Love's Labradors are FANTASTIC! Jana's concerns about the near term health and life long health of the dogs she breeds and sells, is far and above higher than any other breeder I've contacted. Our first Labrador was 14 when he passed away in 1988, he came from field and hunting stock and had zero health issues. After he passed we looked to a combination of bench and retrieving stock. Since 1989 we've seen the health of labradors start displaying issues including tumors and cancers. Our last Labrador passed away about a year ago. After my last Labrador passed away, I started looking for breeders in the northwest and talked to a number of them. I decided to go with Jana because her passion and professionalism are top notch and she was extremely easy to deal with - yes, she does a bit of a "background check" on you (social media, talk to your vet, etc.) but I see no issue with that - it shows how much she cares about her pups, which is a plus to me. We first talked with Jana on the phone and had a very lengthy conversation. She was very knowledgeable about labs and invited us to come meet her and her labs. This was before covid. We wanted a smaller black lab since our previous girl was only about 50 lbs. After meeting Jana and her labs we new she was the breeder for us. She is very selective and makes sure you are a good fit for one of her pups. It was important to Jana that we had a lab before, had a good veterinarian, fenced yard, etc. We were impressed that she cared so much about her pups that she wanted them to go to good homes. We lost our Lab well over a year ago. We did a lot of research on where to find our new Lab! After an extensive search we decided to go with Jana at Loves Labrador's in Hepner Oregon! We live down in Southern California too. We have had a Black Lab, a Yellow Lab and a White Lab. We decided on something different this time! We went with a Red Fox! We picked up Oakley in July. My wife and I lost our Yellow Lab to cancer, at age eleven, two years ago. She was such an angel and the love of our lives, the sweetest girl. We lost our Lab on July 4th 2018, she had just turned 8. Apparently, she had liver failure... and that health concern was on the forefront of our mind when we started looking for new pup. I came across Jana's website as a recommended breeder from some online NW Lab forum (don't recall which one)... and as I started reading the huge wealth of information on her excellent website, it was as if it was written directly toward my health concerns from our previous dog, and focused on exactly what we'd be looking for in a breeder for our next. Her tracking of health (especially copper toxosis) and temperament in her dogs (not only are they exceptionally handsome and gorgeous dogs) was a win at the drop of a hat, so I gave her a call. Jana called back and was a wealth of information... and she also screens her potential buyers to make sure her pups go to good and loving homes. We stated what we were looking for in a dog, and put down our deposit on an upcoming litter for a chocolate female! Sure enough, Glory (mama) ended up putting up a false litter that stumped both her vet and her, which happens from time to time... and Jana was quick to notify us. She gave us upcoming options in future litters and expressed she was sad to notify us of the false litter. We assured her things were fine and understood that sometimes 'that is just how things go'. As time passed, we discussed amongst our selves (my wife and our three younger boys) about our upcoming dog, and we determined color and gender was not the forefront of our decision on a dog, but more temperament and health for a happy, loving and long-lasting family pet. We shared this information with Jana, and she instantly locked on a current litter of Fox Red Yellow labs she had, and a particular boy that would fit our needs. She provided, again, a wealth of information about the pup, and we agreed to make the drive down from Portland, OR to meet him! Our arrival to meet Jana was easy with excellent directions, and we all piled out of the vehicle to meet Jana and the dogs. For the next 2.5 hours, we got to meet all of her dogs, the current litter, and a huge amount of awesome information (seriously, I wish I had recorded the whole thing so I could absorb more) from Jana... which absolutely showed the love and determination she enjoys breeding exceedingly healthy and happy dogs. All her 'Ladies' were amazing dogs, and a couple 'Gents' were also onsite... we could have walked home with any of them. Jana does not mess around, her dogs and breeding arrangement are on spot! We took our boy home three weeks ago today, and this dog could not be a better pick for us. Jana knows her labs, and she chose an amazing dog for us... we almost feel like we should be thanking her for the opportunity to enjoy one of her pups! Jana will check in from time to time to make sure all is progressing well, and is a wealth of excellent information. The quality in pedigree of this pup is fully apparent... smart, calm, loving and 'steady headed'. Our other friends and family of former and current dog owners that have met him have been astonished as his 'cool and collected' demeanor... it's obvious we'll be enjoying him for the next decade and a half with happy smiles, toe warming naps and adventures.
