Location is everything! Directly off the turnpike in the center of PA. When roadtripping back home, we had low air pressure in our tire and immediately stopped to fill it. Love's was conveniently located off the Carlisle exit and they had the air pump well marked. However... charging $3 for someone to pump air... that bumped them to 3 stars! Let's face it... most modern gas stations give air away for free. We still filled up on gas and we still bought some snacks. It seems wild to overcharge or to charge at all for air. read more

The showers are horrible. Black mold EVERYWHERE, it doesn't look like they care too much to really clean in there besides doing the bare minimum for it to look decent for the next driver. There was splashes of blood in the corner by the toilet, trash was never taken out, water shot out of one part of the shower head like a jet. The only reason why I'm not rating 1 star is because of the kind customer service, but aside from that, the men's restrooms are rarely kept up with. Used toilet paper all over the floors, mold and stains all over the walls, and it smells like a freshly used porta potty. It smells so fucking bad. On my way back home after a in state vacation I needed to get fuel before I could venture. I was a fool and didn't fill up where I was and had to use GPS to find a nearby stop to get fuel. I had a few choices but as my luck would have it I ended up bypassing them as they showed up on search. The next one to pop up that I did not bypass was Love's. I know of Love's, but never really had the chance to fully experience one. I know they are geared more towards truck drivers than the usual customer, but I thought give it a go. As far as the fuel prices they were on average with the area, so that was not a factor for coming here. The entrance/exit to this place was a bit of a nightmare. There was heavy truck traffic, to be expected, and a very short road to the intersection. It was a bit tricky for both entering and exiting this place. I never really knew when it was my turn to go as the trucks just kept coming into such a tight road. Before I heading out, and after getting fuel, I stopped inside to see if there was anything that I might need for on the road. I also wanted to use the facilities to cut down on the amount of stops I made on my way home. The facilities were as clean as could be with the amount of foot traffic they receive. As for items to take with me, I really didn't want to waste any more time searching the aisles/coolers. So I just made my way out. read more

Love's Travel Center is a small chain of rest stops just off major eastern roadways. It caters to the trucker professional over-the-road long haulers with everything with replacement parts for DYI driver/mechanics to showers and locker room where the smell of the drive can be washed off before heading out again. As an accommodation to the rest of us, they have off label gasoline at fair prices, and a broad panoply of drinks and snacks. This particular shop also has a Wendy's restaurant attached. I always enjoy perusing the aisles to see what is considered valuable to those who drive for a living. These days it appears to be lots of electronic parts for internet functionality in addition to oils, tools and filters to keep the diesel singing its siren road song. I picked up a bottle of motor oil for "older cars" for my chariot. Pennzoil is always a safe bet. Clean restrooms, friendly service folk, and a general down home feel, make Love's a decent oasis for a desert caravan to find shelter and a quick reprieve. read more

Stopped in to grab a drink. First cashier I encountered was leaning on the counter, head propped up with her hand. She said "she can take you over there." No, I'm sorry, no hello. Nothing. On to the next cashier, no hello, said nothing. Rang my drink up, and proceeded to tell the other cashier that she could have helped me. Doesn't give me a price, takes my money, and hands me my change. Did not say thank you, nothing. No interaction. Meanwhile, the manager of the store is standing right beside her. I was very pleased with the gas station, ladies room and store. My only displeasure was with the Wendy's attached that was playing Fox on the tv. When I asked the young man at Wendy's to change it, he said he wasn't allowed. The nice fellow in Love's told me others had complained too, but it was not part of their business. I will stop for gas in the future but never eat at that Wendy's again. We need to end the divisive hateful rhetoric that upsets my stomach and keeps Americans from working together on clean air and a healthy future for my two grandchildren with asthma! read more

A quick trip to get fuel turned into a 30 minute stop because the pay at the pump wasn't even an option, so we had to go inside and deal with the workers, while they dealt with other customers who were also irritated.
