The Lowell School has a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.

This is our second year at Lowell and our son is in the pre-primary program. We have been very happy with the Lowell School! Their child-led approach to learning (Reggio Emilia) was very appealing to us when we were looking at school options and our son has really flourished. The school has a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion which extends to the student body, faculty, and learning materials. It is wonderful to see books about a stunning range of cultures in the library. As an inter-racial, LGBT-led family, we feel not just welcome at Lowell but celebrated. The school has a small student body (340 students pre-K through 8th) which may not be for everyone. We happen to really like the size of the school and feel a strong connection to the other families and staff. We highly recommend Lowell and happy to answer questions from prospective parents.

The teachers are very negligent to their students when it comes to supporting an issue of theirs.

The curriculum is very well thought out and research-based and we have appreciated the care and attention given to promoting social and emotional growth as well as to providing academic challenge.

Academics are solid and teachers for the most part have been top notch. One of the big negatives…read moreabout Holy Redeemer in Kensington is the cliquish unwelcoming attitudes of the families and how they act like they are too good to even say hello after your kids have been in the same grade for years. It's like the twilight zone, where the parents think so much of themselves, but in reality have no class. It's a very unwelcoming environment. The worst part is the bullying and mean girl behavior by some of the kids that the administration allows to run rampant without redirecting, even though they're well aware of it. The bullying and mean girl behavior is learned behavior from the parents who sadly the kids are emulating and so the cycle continues. After 6 years at the school, I would not recommend.

Some turnover in the middle school program - will have to see how this year goes. In general, wonderful, caring teachers at every grade level. Known for strong sports program (esp. basketball and flag football). Can be difficult for new students and parents to break into well-established cliques. Many of the parents went to this school and came back to live near their parents live in the same neighborhood (sometimes the same house) they grew up in.

They build confidence and the love of learning through play, meeting each child where they are. CLNS was also an education for me in parenting - in a very loving and non-judgmental way. For example, when my son was 2, it didn't benefit my son for me to anxiously ask him to apologize for taking a toy or accidentally stepping on another child's sand creation. Without shaming me or my son, the teachers demonstrated how to teach empathy verses forcing a meaningless (at that age) statement. They assured me that it was totally normal that my son was a tad late on the potty training front. They never any shame or force kids - they magically create confident kids who love learning. An unexpected benefit was the CLNS community of families, that was a huge support through these early years - I am so sad for this year to end. My sons favorite part: the awesome playground that is very organic and inspires creativity.

The teachers are fantastic and I really feel that he is given one-on-one care and attention. Being a first time mom, I was nervous transitioning my two year old into school, but he adapted quickly and I can already see how much he's learning and growing; not to mention he's socializing so well with the other kids in his class. We are so exited to graduate to the 2/3's class next year!
