Ordered lawnmower to be delivered yesterday. Mid-delivery it was changed to Monday. The customer service rep blamed me for using the website and would allow neither a cancelation or replacement because one was in transit. In the year I've lived less than a mile behind them I've tried three delivery/projects and they have messed up all three. NEVER again. Horrible customer service that resulted in the loss of a sale and a customer. I needed 15 ft. of plastic chain cut for a feature film production currently filming in West Columbia. SC. I went to this location earlier in the production to get the same amount of chain and was told that their bolt/chain cutters were broken but I was able to get assistance from the glass cutting section to cut the plastic chain. Today, I asked for assistance and a staff member was paged. I waited for about 10 minutes and no one showed up. I was able to get the attention of who I believe is the hardware section manager, Pam. She told me no one was coming to help me because their bolt cutters were broken. I told her what happened last time and even found a pair of cutters and asked if we could use those. I was told that we could not use those cutters because of some sort of policy. I went to customer service and they said they would check with the pipe fitting section to see if they could use their cutter to cut the plastic chain. A call was made and it was responded to...by Pam. I don't know if she was on some kind of power trip and had already decided that they weren't going to help me, but she reinforced and repeated that the pipe cutting blade was only for cutting pipe and they couldn't help me. So basically this store has an entire wall of chain and a manager who refuses to find a way to help people who need chain buy chain. It's a hardware store. I came in here on my lunch to get some firewood and a fireplace cleaning log. Upon walking in, for some reason I walked to the garden center knowing full well that wood wouldn't be out there but I did, smh. When I came back in, I ran into an employee who helped me get to the wood which was a few steps away from where I encountered him. I felt silly. Not only did he show me where it was, but he loaded my cart with the bundles and showed me to the cleaning log too! He was soooo nice! His smile was warm and caring! He wanted to help me...it was sweet. I left from him and proceeded to the checkout line where the lines were a little long. I made it to the register and the cashier was nice as well. She was talking about how cold it was with the doors opening and closing! Lol, which it was! If on this side of town again, I will most definitely be returning to this Lowe's! read more

I went there to purchase a new toilet for my bathroom, while looking over all the displays, about 4 Lowe's employees passed me by, not one offered a helping hand. There was one employee on his personal phone making hotel reservations. We were exasperated with the lack of help at our closest Lowe's store and went instead to the one in West Columbia. We had one item to pick up from an online purchase and then were searching for outdoor shades for our gazebo. Someone immediately offered help with the pick up and brought it to us. Then a most helpful woman (Tonya) in the Home Decor section went above and beyond helping us with a decision regarding our shades. As we left the store, a very friendly employee wished us a good day. The front end supervisor named MATT was a horrible leader and dealing customers issue. He refused my returns without receipt after I said I call a corporate office. Based on him that was a disrespectful.. Not in my vocabulary I think he needs to go to school for management. He threatened me also calling a cops for me to leave the store. Customer service leaves much to be desired. First asked someone where the hand garden tillers were located and they said they didn't have any. I looked it up online and they had 9 in stock. After I located it myself, there was 1, but I needed 2. Again, asked for assistance because the box of other tillers was located on a top shelf and 2 employees walked off to "find a forklift." After waiting for 15 min, come to find out they were just standing in the front of the store. Do not use this Lowes store for any installation service. I ordered a security door and security storm door for installation. When they came in, the security storm door was the wrong size. I was told my an acting manager that it was reordered and would be within a week. A week later I checked and discovered it was never reordered. The manager on duty said she ordered it and it would take another week. I checked a week later and discovered she never reordered it. I stood there this time with another manager and watched him order the door. It came in with a week, but the voicemail said it was ready for pickup. I talked to the sales specialist and to the regional pro for Lowes and they said they would get it scheduled for installation. They didn't. I had to call a week later to the installers and let them know it was in. They said I would get a call within two days to get it scheduled for installation. I got no call, so I called again and was told that their installer would call me that afternoon. Well, the installer did not call but left a voicemail letting me know when he could install it. I called back and left a voicemail for him saying the date and time was fine and asked him to call me to confirm. He did not call back, so I have tried twice to get the installation time confirmed. The store is gigantic clean and comfortable. The employees if you can find them, are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I suggest no one ever goes there the day after a holiday I went to shop there on July 5 and it seemed that everyone who work there called in drunk. LOL. Only three employees in the store. This post is mainly for the sub contractor that Lowes hired to install my rear french doors. 2 years ago I bought a set of French doors to replace my rear sliding glass door. It looked nice at fist but just 1 year out of warranty the crappy craftsmanship allowed water to enter and now I had to pay a real contractor to fix it. The professional I hired also spoke poorly on the work that was performed by Lowes' sub contractor. AND of course Lowe's didn't want any part of helping or fixing anything. Be cautious on using their services. Just buy what you need but don't hire these dumbarses. read more

DO NOT PROMOTE BEING A PET FRIENDLY STORE IF YOU ARENT GOING GO BE FRIENDLY TO PEOPLE WHO BRING PETS. I have never in my life been more upset than I was Tuesday. After my dogs vet apt, I swung by here to grab a refrigerator filter. I didn't want to drive all the way home to drop my dog off and drive all the way back. I knew Lowe's was "pet friendly", so we went in. I had the model # for my fridge but needed assistance in looking up the matching filter. I stood by there and at least for 5 minutes no one offered to help. I finally spotted this lady and asked for assistance. She wouldn't look me in the eye or come near me; she said she would get someone. After another 5 minutes she comes back with this random guy who keeps telling her I don't know how to help, you know this isn't my department. The lady would not come near me. My dog was calmly laying on the floor getting pet by children in the area. She kept trying to show the guy something but wouldn't come near me. I said mam, he isn't going to hurt you. She rolled her eyes and walked away. Finally, after not getting helped for 15 minutes, a nice guy (which is why I gave 1 star) came to help, got on the floor with my dog, looks over at that rude woman and says, "see boss, he's friendly." WHAT!!! So for 15 minutes you watched me sit here and wouldn't serve me because I have a pet in a pet friendly store! Gave me a dirty look when I rolled up and waited for me to hand her items to scan. Every other time I come here nobody is ever helpful except the guys in gardening. Was waiting in line, there were four people in line and it was the only line open. There were 4 employees hanging out laughing and joking by the register we were at, while the one cashier was ringing the people up in front of me. One of the people joking around says "you all can go to customer service to check out". The two people behind me go, I'm in no rush so I wait. About 5 mins go by and the people in front of me are still checking out, no big deal, I'm just replying to emails on my phone. I don't care. Then the people messing around disperse, and the girl that told everyone to go to customer service to checkout logs into a computer and says "you can come here now" I said I was fine, I had no problem waiting, she looked disgusted and said, like I just wasted her time, and said "Come here Sir". So I checked out with her, super rude, won't be back to this Lowe's, neither will my company who has spent $2-300k at this Lowe's this last year as we build our new site in Columbia. This is my first review ever, so I am not going to opt for a 1 star option, but the situation that had taken place on Mother's Day was definitely worth the 1 star rating... AWFUL customer service out in the Gardening Center EVER. I love the gardening center, and frequent through there quite often, and yesterday was the first time that I had ever experienced something so bad. I approached the cashier (Mona), and I greeted her with a friendly "hello," and received nothing but a blank stare... I had pushed my cart up to her register so that she can easily scan all the flowers & herbs & veggies that i had, but she didn't move... I was really confused and thought she was going to scan, but she didn't move and continued to stare at me. I finally started picking things up off my cart for her to scan and she scanned everything that i had... She had no patience and whenever I would hold something up for her to scan and it wasn't showing the barcode side, i would get a sigh from her... one-by-one I handed her the things to scan, and still she hadn't moved from behind the counter. The only thing she had said to me the whole time was the total of my purchase. I am a super friendly and really nice person, and i was not prepared for that experience. It was awkward and rude... I contemplated going to management to complain about her after I had to return back to the gardening center to pick up something else... I was that disturbed by the situation. If not for the convenience of it being close to my house, and the fact that I frequent Lowe's on HWY 1 quite often, I would not return... I certainly hope not to experience this again, and if so, i will definitely request a manger. To top this review off, I am going to say one more thing... Luckily, I have an idea of what i am looking for when I go in- There have been a few times i have either asked or someone i was with had asked or someone around me had asked for help in finding something and 95% of the time the employee(s) have NO CLUE what we/ they are looking for. BUYERS BEWARE! I've been doing a entire home renovation and have spent thousands of dollars over the last 90 days at this location. I have collected over 80 receipts over this period. The cashiers all recognize seeing me in the store, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day in the beginning! Further into the reno I started buying extra to keep from making so many trips and just returning the parts I didn't use. The first couple returns I brought in my huge stacks of receipts and customer service didn't even look at them and gladly put the money back on my card. So becoming accustomed to the ease of this policy, I stopped bothering to bring my whole book of receipts and then the problem came. I came in last Saturday to simply exchange a 20 dollar gas valve for a different size and pick up another 200 dollars worth of parts and all I got was a headache and terrible customer service. The customer service rep refused to give me a refund, a gift card, or do an exchange without the paper receipt. I then ask for the manager which she call over and explained to him the item was brand new and in original packaging and I would like to simply exchange it for the right size. He literally looked at her and ask, " why not just give him a gift card?" She replied, "I can't system won't let me." So who is the manager?! I ended up leaving the store. From now on I will go to Home Depot or just order on Amazon. read more

We ordered a deck install from Lowe's, (Store # 0499) West Columbia, SC. Project was paid for on August 1, 2013. Lowe's contracted with Mac Renovations out of Greenwood, SC to do the install. We had been told that footers would be poured and the 4x4's mounted on the footers. The contractor sent someone out to measure and inspect the site. Even though this method of construction was approved by this employee it wasn't done even though 27-80 lb bags of cement were ordered and delivered to the house along with post anchors and other supplies necessary for this type of construction. Holes were dug, the 4x4's dropped into the holes and cement put in the holes around the 4x4s. We were told this change was due to the height of the deck from the ground. It is a low deck - about 12 to 18 inches above ground level. But this wasn't a surprise. Everyone knew the height of the deck from day-one. I have never understood why the last minute change. Additionally, two of these support posts sank and were shimmed up. These two support posts were replaced after we complained about the shims - but I'm not convinced that more supports won't sink over time and the deck will sag. We have mostly sand land and they used so much water in the cement that I'm not sure it will hold up. Work began on Monday, Sept 9. Sometime during that day or the next (Tue, Sept 10) the installer noticed that only 12 ft deck boards were delivered and we needed 16 ft deck boards. I don't know if this was a manufacturer delivery error or a store ordering error or why it wasn't discovered when the order was checked in upon delivery to the store. In any case - it delayed our deck install an additional month. The store was notified and 16 ft deck boards were ordered. Construction of the deck frame continued through Wed, Sept 10 and all work stopped to wait on the 16 ft deck boards. I believe the deck boards were delivered to the store on Sept 25. The installer couldn't come back to our house to begin work again until Oct 7. Excess materials from building the frame sat in our yard for 2 weeks before the store arranged for pick-up. Way too much lumber and cement was ordered so there was quite a pile. Since the full materials order had been delivered prior to the initial start date, the rest of the material pile sat in our yard over a month total waiting for the install to be finished. Holes were cut into the installed deck boards for the hand rail 4x4s. Of the 10 4x4s used in our hand rail - only 3 are attached to the deck frame with carriage bolts. The rest are simply screwed in with long screws. Additionally, none of the 4x4 railing posts are boxed in with 2x4's or secured in any way other than two "ledgerlok" screws being screwed through the framing into the posts. When I questioned this (I had asked about this when we were getting estimates and had been assured by the store Project Specialist that the handrails would be attached to the frame with carriage bolts) - I was told carriage bolts couldn't be used for some unexplained reason but I didn't have to worry - these handrails weren't going anywhere. I don't know, but this isn't what I contracted for and not what I expected nor what I thought I was paying for. One hole in the deck boards was cut right over the top of a joist so the 4x4 was notched out to fit over the joist. This wasn't necessary to the placement of the handrail - it just wasn't taken into account when the holes were being cut. This results in a 2 inch notch having been cut out of the center of the 4x4 so the 4x4 could "saddle" over the joist. Sloppy work. We have a bench across the front of the deck which I was told would be bolted to the frame. This wasn't done either. The bench is simply screwed down to the deck boards. It seems solid now - but it's not the construction I was assured would get. All in all - I didn't get the premium construction I expected and that I paid for. Lowe's wasn't the cheapest bid we got - but we chose Lowes because I thought we could depend on them to give us sound construction. I definitely don't feel we got it. Lowe's Customer Service made an offer to send Mac Renovations out to address my complaints and "fix" the deck install. No one has actually listed the things that would be "fixed". I asked if a different company could be used and Lowe's said no - it can only be the original installer. Why would I want this company to come back? They had the opportunity to build this deck right and didn't. They didn't like it when I asked questions about the methods they were using and either told me "everything will be fine", ignored me or argued with me. After this experience, the less than satisfactory results and additional difficulties of even getting refunded for excess materials ordered by and returned to the store, we will not consider Lowe's for these projects. read more
