A couple of times I had to make multiple trips in one day. The staff was always professional and helpful, and almost always had what I needed, which is saying a lot since I managed an old 50-unit building that needed a lot of things for a lot of problems. Sometimes I would grab the wrong thing, and it was never a problem bringing it back and exchanging it for the right thing. Sometimes my boss would get a bit behind in paying for it all, and they would gently remind me, and the ol' slumlord would send them a check from Florida. They were cool but firm about it. It seemed to be a situation they'd been through many times before. They have homey touches here - a small tv on the counter that's always showing something. A fridge with Faygo in the can. My favorite thing about 3rd Ave Hardware is the bicycle selection. In the warmer months there's a whole row chained together on the sidewalk out front. Old ten speeds, 70s 3 speeds, cruisers, mountain bikes, etc. But, wait, there's more inside! Another row between the front door and the register and still more up and down the cramped aisles! (3rd Ave Hardware could really use a more spacious locale.) The prices won't break the bank either. I just bought my second bike from there - a green mountain bike from CCM, that Canadian company that makes hockey equipment. It's a pretty sweet bike for $100. My last one was, too. It was an old 70s 3 speed with a big comfy seat and a glistening orange paint job that just looked like candy. Too bad it got ripped off. Oh well, that's life in the D. I won't pack it in, and I'm glad 3rd Ave won't either. I'm only knocking them down one star because of their paint selection. It's lousy and overpriced. Go somewhere else for paint.

Customers who had asked Kevin and his store to help support local teams, stopped shopping there. I think the final nail in the coffin were the numerous roadblocks that virtually cut off his few remaining loyal customers. We have lost something today that cannot be easily replaced.

The gentleman behind the counter helped me find what I need right away. Service like this you will not get at a big box store! The fact that this place in still in business speaks volumes to the customer service, price and selection offered. I am now an almost expert thanks to Patti. She tested oils on her hand, wrist and fingers for me to smell. She explained in detail what I had to do, what I shouldn't do. No rushing me even when another customer needed her help, I was able to peruse the store, as I am known to do no matter what I am there for. He finished the 3 screens same afternoon, within 3 hrs after drop off was picking them up. Very happy with the service and quality of the job done. It's a great hardware store that carries all sorts of household needs. I'll take personable companies who welcome and ask if they can help with anything as soon as I walked in the door anytime!!!

Self-checkout fury as customers threaten to boycott Lowe's and go to Ace Hardware…read more Self-checkouts have been blamed for people losing their jobs and there is now an ongoing pushback against the technology being used, as one retailer found out.  Ace Hardware in Wyandotte Mi, a 2nd generation owner Jerry Jr. grew up in his father's store.  The negative experience of zero cashiers at Lowe's has me visiting Ace Hardware much more.  Ace sends me 2 coupons each month $5 off $20 a mega deal 25 percent off.  And I get points every purchase towards another free $5 many times each year.  A fast Friendly crew always ready to help.  Been a customer 35 plus years for a great reason .  Thanks Dawn the manager and Jerry the owner .  Seriously Ace corporate needs to make a commercial to promote No Self Checkouts in our stores .  @acehardware #acehardware
