So we believe we were just ripped off by Ocean Breeze Tree Service, owner Bobby T, (aka on his…read morebusiness license PavillionTanuvasa) 907-887-1052, 509 N. Bliss St., Anchorage AK 99508. He provided us a contract that stated he would take a few trees down and fill in a hole in our back yard with black dirt and sand and then hydroseed the entire area for $25,000.00. But when the day came to hydroseed he showed up with a HAND SPREADER and sprinkled grass seed on the packed down dirt (which did NOT have sand as stated in the contract) and had his 9 year old son water it and still demanded the balance due of $4000.00. We told him that what he was doing was not hydroseeding and all he kept saying is that's what he called hydroseeding. So I Googled hydroseeding and showed it to him but he just kept demanding the $4,000.00 balance due, it was scary, my husband is 77 and I'm 70. We paid him because we are the kind of people that are good for our word, but wanted to get the message out to as many people as possible that Bobby T at Ocean Breeze was crooked. We will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the Anchorage Police Department, the State of Alaska Department of Law, Adult Protective Services, the Business and Professional Licensing department, and the Office of Elder Fraud & Assistance, in addition to filing a claim in Small Claims Court. PLEASE share with as many people as possible as soon as possible. Alaskans take care of Alaskans, always have always will!

My husband and I had been talking about having a few dead/dying trees in our yard cut down. Bobby &…read morecrew had just finished a job for a neighbor and stopped by offering to cut down our trees. He gave us a reasonable quote and had the crew come by shortly after. They did a great job, somehow missing my garden directly underneath the trees, cleaned up, and got us an invoice within a couple of days. The team was great to work with and we'd recommend them to anyone. Regarding some of the other reviews, we didn't get any hydroseeding done but if we had, we would have remembered to water the grass after it was planted, and wouldn't have asked our neighbors to spam bad reviews.

First off, I want to preface this with the fact that I think if we had gone with them for…read moreeverything, I think things would have been done well, and no issues would have arisen. That being said, I left my business with them having a bad taste in my mouth for multiple reasons. 1. Their marketing isn't dishonest, but it isn't honest either. They plaster 'free consultation' all over their website, but that's really tongue in cheek. They charge you $100(after processing fee, we will get to that later), just to show up and give you a quote/consultation on what you are needing. They tell you if you buy any additional services that 'fee' will be subtracted from those services. Ok, fine. They come out give you a quote for a bunch of services, then tell you the prices you see already have the fee subtracted from them, but don't show where or how. So really, it's kind of a fake sale situation, where the 'sale' price from the credit you already paid is actually just the normal price. So, in reality, the consultation was never free. 2. When you factor in all the fees that they charge (base price, credit and consultation) they come in anywhere of 8-40% more expensive than all 5 of their competitors that we got quotes from. Their tree markup was outrageous. They wanted $750 for a tree we could go buy from a retailer for $300-$400. Their selection and availability were fairly limited as well compared to other outfits and retailers. They are the only company we found in town that charges consultation fees. 3. The credit card fee stuff is definitely not something only this business is doing but it is only done by either dishonest companies OR companies with bad CPAs or accountants. The credit card fees are deducible from the business taxes when they file. If they are charging the customer swipe fees to pass it on to the customer AND claiming it on their taxes an 'incurred business expense' that the IRS lets businesses deduct it is super sketchy and dishonest since they didn't incur the cost, the customer did when they passed it on to them. Like I said, it's not just them, but the government needs to address it if businesses like this one are double dipping by claiming the deduction and charging the customer fees directly. I think their game is they mentally lock you in by charging you a consultation fee and then they bank on you feeling like you wasted a hundred bucks if you don't go with their overpriced services. I waffled around with giving them 2 or 3 stars because I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, but at the end of the day I feel icky and used after dealing with this whole process.
