After I had my baby early in an emergency c-section, Beth helped with all manner of things I usually did, cooking, food shopping, dishes, laundry, bathing kids etc. She took stellar care of my newborn so I could rest. However, Beth's knowledge and expertise went far beyond that, she was an incredible source of knowledge about newborns and their development, and breastfeeding, which was really hard after a c-section. She also taught me to use an electric breastpump, and how to store and use bottled breastmilk. Beth's knowledge about c-section recovery was also super helpful, I was totally uneducated and didn't know what to expect, do, or not do. She also helped with my other child and step-kids, which is an enormous task. Beth was calm and supportive throughout a very chaotic time and helped me learn so much and not feel alone and overwhelmed. I have no idea how we would have made it through without Beth. I literally and metaphorically slept better with the HFA team there. As first-time parents -- it's so comforting to have expertise and support at every moment as you're navigating life as a parent for the first time. When you have no idea what's going on, you're healing and tired and hormonal, your doula is a rock. As second-time parents -- LIFE-SAVING to have someone there to let me sleep as much as possible so that I could be semi-human for my toddler in the morning, and gave my husband and I some much-needed normalcy in the evenings. Everyone I've ever interacted with at HFA (Devon, Sara, Kate, Tiffany, Latoya, Norah, Erika ... the list goes on) was courteous, professional, kind, hyper-responsive and I never had any doubts that we all were in great hands. I have used Om Mamas for both of my births. With my first we did everything we could to have a…read morenatural delivery but my son was large, 42 weeks, and determined to stay put despite a two day induction. While I was initially devastated at the thought of a C-section Chelsea was there the whole time, helping me ask the right questions of my providers and allowing me to feel heard and part of the decision. When my baby's heartrate started dropping and he was born with severe torticollis it was clear that he was in a very bad position and the surgery prevented what could have been a very serious outcome. With my second I was determined to have a VBAC, but any C-section mama will tell you, this can be an uphill fight when it comes to your provider. Chelsea and Lauren were available to talk after every appointment. I could vent, and ask questions, and figure out exactly how to put myself in the best possible position to have a vaginal delivery. I'm so pleased that I was able to have a VBAC this past April with my second son and I know that a huge part of it came down to the support of my doulas! These women are so dedicated, staying with you for hours and hours, sitting with you on the floor, holding your hand, wiping your sweat, and squeezing your hips. This is the type of support all birth moms deserve!
