This is my favorite neighborhood surprise. Lucy's has food as great as any in Little Ethiopia on Fairfax. The prices are good and the people are warm and wonderful. Whenever I lunch with anyone of character, people who don't expect burgers and fries, I take them to Lucy's because it's the best. I'm such a fan. They are generous of spirit and while the place isn't the most elegant, it's comfortable and the food is delightful. read more

I'm working downtown and was excited to see an Ethiopian restaurant nearby. Even more excited to see they had beets, since most of the restaurants in Little Ethiopia do not. The food was delicious, I got a veggie platter and the lentil samosa. Everything was warm and well packaged for my delivery. I think this restaurant beats out all of the Little Ethiopia ones for me, and I've tried almost all of them. It's still too far to come here regularly, but definitely plan on ordering again when I'm downtown. read more

The food is a hit or miss for me. Very nice family customer service mediocre. Last time I ordered from here I got fried fish and veggies. They stack all the veggies in a little container so everything is on top of each other. The presentation was just sloppy. The fish was fried to perfection well seasoned. The sides tasted tarty. It also had a after taste. The sides had a smell to it so that's why I haven't been back in a while but go try it just my opinion. read more

I love Ethiopian food and I've tried many places in the LA area. I placed my order on postmates after looking at reviews. One of the reviews stated that they found a hair in their food and provided a picture. I was thinking this was hopefully a one-off. After waiting to receive my food (I ordered yemisir wot, tomato fitfit, and awaze lamb tibs) I opened the yemisir wot container and saw a very obvious hair in my food. It seemed like it should have been easily catchable before closing and packing into the bag. I no longer want to finish the rest of my food since this seems like a common occurrence. What started as missing my exit and having to turn around on the freeway, led to me looking for food spots close by because I was way too hungry to finish the hour commute back home without something to eat. I looked on Yelp and saw that there was an Ethiopian restaurant close by, and I have been craving Ethiopian food for months so I decided to check it out. First of all the spot is located with plenty of street parking a few tables inside if you want to eat inside, and the place + the bathroom is very clean!! I was talking with one of the employees who goes by Matthew, he was so kind and incredibly helpful and attentive. I did not get a chance to talk with the other employee due to language barrier but her smiles were incredibly comforting! I believe this is a family run business. I started with fresh mango juice, which I will probably think about for the rest of summer, it was not too sweet, perfectly refreshing. 9.5/10 I got the vegan platter for two, and it definitely feeds two because I was starving, ate till I was stuffed, and there was still over half the platter left. For $18 that's an incredible value that you just do not see anymore. All the food was fresh, the ingredients were, distinct and complementary, I absolutely loved it. 10/10 I also got the lentil Samosa, it was good, but I wish I tried the ground beef Samosa! The lentils were cooked perfectly, and the Samosa was stuffed to the brim, but with all the veggies on my veggie platter, I was craving meat and I'm excited to try the beef Samosa next time. Called during the Week (mon or tues) for their Sat hours, they said they are open 11a-8p. I (and my party) get there at 1p Sat afternoon to find out no dine in service. Lucy Ethiopian is an excellent restaurant with great portion sizes; I order from here 1-3 times a month. I highly recommend the veggie platter; it is my favorite item on the menu. There is an option for a two-person or four-person serving size. I gave Lucy Ethiopian 4 instead of 5 stars because of the food's greasiness. The special combo vegetarian entree platter was quite good, the collard greens tasted especially fresh and the shiro wot was creamy and smooth. I enjoyed the beets as well. The only issue was the yellow split peas, which were undercooked and kind of hard. The awaze fish tibes were very good! The berbere sauce was nice and had a bit of heat, very flavorful. Came here because a Tinder date suggested it. We got some sort of braised beef and a veggie sampler. Braised beef was AMAZING. I thought the veggie sampler was just okay. I was on the far end of K-Town, and it was time to get dinner after hours spent working at a cafe. While obviously there are many excellent Korean restaurants out there, I was in the mood for something else--something that didn't involve continuing into downtown. I Yelped Mexican restaurants, couldn't make a decision, and then decided to search for Ethiopian restaurants, as I knew that there were a few good ones outside of Little Ethiopia; that's how I found Lucy. It had great reviews on Yelp, and just as important, it was only 7 minutes from my current location. So off I went. It's a humble little spot on Washington, with a couple tables outside and a handful of tables inside. While many had reserved tags on them, the friendly man at the counter (I believe he's the owner) asked if a table in the back was OK--it was--and I sat. A veggie combo is always a great way to try a new Ethiopian restaurant, so that's what I got--and it was absolutely yummy. It contained generous portions of such Ethiopian faves as red and yellow lentils, collard greens, beets, shiro wat, cabbage/carrots/potatoes, beets and a salad. (Technically, I think it could feed two people, but when I like something enough, I count as two people.) Everything tasted extremely fresh, and the salad had just the right combination of heat and acidity to cleanse the palate. The injera too was excellent. While Meals by Genet will always be first in my heart for Ethiopian food, it's good to have other excellent options (especially now that Genet has closed her dining room and gone to takeout only)--either for dine-in or if you're in a different part of the city--and at least based on our first date, Lucy is looking like she may be quite a catch. read more

Walked in to amazing smells coming form the kitchen giving me a hint of what was to come. I ordered that Large Veggie Sampler plate because I was hungry. The gentleman behind the counter was very polite. All dishes in the sampler were cooked as they should. The lentils were al dente in the Yellow dal, and perfectly soft in the others. The cabbage, greens, beets and salad were seasoned very well and were very tasty. I have a big apatite and and was able to finish it in two sittings. Lol. Really? Are you really that simple that you would use an excuse SO SILLY to be THAT disrespectful? And don't lie. I have three witnesses. Why yell? Why raise your voice? You simply could have told us there wasn't enough food when we arrived. But you chose the low road of the UNSOPHISTICATED choosing to humiliate by raising your voice with people who never once got loud with you. 1.) ASK YOURSELF: Would you have yelled at a MAN in his face the way you yelled at me? Better yet, a black man since I am a black woman? Who deserves respect in a situation like this? SOME people? Nobody? Or EVERYBODY? We were there a whole hour before closing. Did this situation even require yelling? Who was yelling at you? We all looked at each other hoping it was a joke. 2.) We were courteous in calling ahead of time since you had no reservation system just to make sure you knew we were coming instead of just showing up. I asked for 8pm but you made us feel like that wasn't good so I tried to be agreeable with other times YOU WANTED. Finally, you told us to call at 7 just to make sure it was ok to come AT ALL and you said COME. We *never* solidified a time, but how dare you try to make us come at a time convenient for YOU. Who does that? We asked the lady for 8pm. 3.) You made us feel like it was OUR privilege to have the opportunity to eat in your space instead of YOU being grateful to even have patrons who wanted to support your business My only hope is that someday you will see that what you did wasn't right and that life teaches you to how to handle things better by choosing the path of respect. This is my favorite restaurant. I eat dinner here almost 2 to 3 times a week. And I am always fully satisfied with how fresh, and very tasty the food is. The fish is wonderful and the presentation is awesome, the collard greens reminds me of my grandmother cooking.
