It's one of my birthrights as part of a generation that had loving parents and no real struggle to contend with. Ludlow Blunt (formerly known as Tommy Guns) definetly helps with that. The haircut costs a pretty penny, but it's so worth it. This place was recommended by a co-worker. I tried it out. I was appointed Chuck as my stylist...Chuck now owns me. He owns my hair's heart and soul. It was the first time I left a stylist feeling so confident that I thought I could hit on a girl way out of my league...I didn't, but I felt like I could and that's all that matters in a good haircut. The staff is incredibly nice (and cute, female staff at least), you're offered coffee or beer while you wait or during your haircut, very relaxing atmosphere. The hairwash is magical, borderline orgasmic. Only thing that sucks for me is that they moved to Williamsburg. They (my stylist, Jedd) ruined the texture of my hair and made it uneven and like a scraggly octopus - thick and heavy on top and scraggly at the ends if you don't blow dry it into submission. I'm a bit upset with my hair. It's not super ugly, but it's not at all what I wanted. First of all, I asked to cut 2-3 inches and it was cut 4-5. I wanted lots of layers, and shaggy. It just looks blah and doesn't have enough layers. The facility was nice, the people were nice, and I enjoyed my experience during the cut. Sometimes it's just hard to tell what to feel until I get to go home and play with it. After a few days, I'm disliking it more and more. That's not cool. I talked through what I wanted with Jed-- 2-3 inches off of my waist length hair, lightened up on the bottom and around my face, with no chunks or short pieces, and please god, no loop-de-loop layers that will make me look like I just stepped out of the mall. Keep it natural looking like long naturally grown out hair, only with the unhealthy bits removed. And yet, he gave me exactly that, a tasteless, style-less cut with short loopy choppy layers. 6-8 inches gone! I used to have beautiful fairy hair. Now I look like a suburban housewife. It's unbelievably horrible. And not even well done! I am beside myself. It'll take over a year for my hair to grow back, and there's no way I can live with his cut, so I will have to get someone else cut even more, just to get to something stylistically bearable. Avoid....unless you want to spend $100 for a wash & cut that someone has to cleanup afterwards. This was my 1st time here & maybe I got the wrong guy but no excuse for this. First of all a men's cut is $75 +tip. That's absurd. Had I known that going in I would have avoided. The barber was nice enough but was very rough with a comb, catching my ear on a few occasions. Then drying my hair with the blow dryer practically burnt my ear off. No straight razor to clean up, just buzzers. When all was done he told me how he styled the back, but never showed me in a mirror. I immediately met my friend afterwards who pointed out that there were clumps of hair left on my neckline. I can't tell you enough how much I love this place. The decor is impeccable - classic barber shop style coupled with the hospitality you'd find at top salons. The staff is professional yet personable, and always beyond courteous. Rami (not sure if I spelled that correctly) has provided me with the best cut I've ever had numerous times, and is always willing to appease my ridiculous desire to know what he's doing and why, at all times. I know I'm probably the worst in the chair, but he really makes the experience purely enjoyable. I've never had a more perfect fade, and he is clearly prioritizing my specific needs in accordance to my skull shape, personal style, and unwavering need to keep up with current trends. Every member of the staff I have encountered have been models of perfection. Everyone who has shampooed me has employed the perfect level of finger pressure. I've been to salons where people have dug their nails into my scalp, but not here. These people are professionals and outwardly display a high level of care in their craft. Especially the woman with the Amber Rose-esque hair style. I can't quite remember her name, maybe Anna or JoAnne. I think she's a newer addition to the staff, but she was extremely nice and caring to me last time I was there. When I call to make an appointment, the receptionists always pick up the phone promptly and go out of their way to make sure my needs are met in helping to set my appointment. I am truly grateful that I've found such an awesome place to not only get my hair cut, but to relax and enjoy an experience unrivaled by even the top salons in the greatest city in the world. This establishment has gone downhill. After over 2 years as a regular customer, I've found that their way of running business seems to be more emotional than professional. The decor is rad like a step back in time, but the attitude by the main receptionist is unsettling. The staff is very nice, but the turn over seems high. Once I build a relationship with a stylist, they leave. Not sure what that says, but actions speak louder or Brooklyn is that way... hard to say, but in my experience there are much kinder establishments in the neighborhood for way cheaper and better quality. I've seen the work of the main hairdresser/Russell, and his work looks exceptionally good, but when I'm not working he's booked up. Too bad. This place used to be cool, but sadly, like many things in williamsburg, it's cool factor has plummeted. I came in wanting a couple of inches off the back of my long hair. I asked Jedd to leave the front long (cause it's weaker and I'd been struggling to grow it out), and pull the back up to meet it. Pretty simple request, but instead he cuts about 6 inches off the front and leaves the back long, the exact opposite of what I asked for. However, I'm a flexible person, so if it had been a great cut, I'd have been game, but it was a cheesy, crap cut. I was too stunned to say anything, so paid and left. But a few hours later, I called the salon and said, I think you should know, your stylist cut my hair exact opposite of what I asked for, and I'm really quite unhappy about it, to which the woman said, "I'm so sorry, please come in and we'll refund your money" (I'd paid cash). "I'll leave a note at the desk, so whomever's working will know." Two days later, I go back to the salon, and the woman working says, she knows nothing about it, and can't refund my money in cash, but will paypal me once she clears it with the owner. Fine. I leave. Never get a refund. Call again. never get a refund. Pay another hundred to get a real haircut at a different salon, by someone who actually knows how to listen and cut hair. Judd, you have no style, and Ludlow Blunt, your customer service leaves quite a bit to be desired. Such a disappointment, as I'd gotten a great cut from Russell a few years earlier, and liked the salon. read more

Favorite place to get beard trims and for only $15! Ashlie took care of me and I couldn't be happier. Once you walk in you feel like you walked onto a set from Boardwalk Empire which was kind of cool. I went on a Friday at 8:15pm and they were closing in 45 minutes but she still took her time to make sure I was completely satisfied. They also do take appointments which is great for people like me who work late. They also have a great selection of grooming products to choose from. I would highly recommend anyone looking to get a trim or a beard trim to visit. read more

I love this salon and love my colorist Laura even more. The interior is gorgeous. Super open and airy. Everyone there is helpful and pleasant. Laura does my color and keeps me looking like a natural redhead, so much so that I often have random people tell me they wish they too could have natural red hair like mine. It looks natural whether I am asking for a deep darker red or a strawberry blonde. I have been going to Lisa for 10 years and will follow her wherever she goes! (though because of her minimalist Anglo-inspired chic style Ludlow Blunt is a perfect fit). I'm very stubborn about my hair (somewhat pin-up inspired) but Lisa has helped me keep the cut updated throughout the years, with subtle twists on the cut to modernize it. I've also learned the importance of cutting hair regularly to maintain its shine and bounce. As for color, this is where she really shines -- I've gone to black and back -- without bleaching, but some sulfur-based color remover that worked like magic and left my hair shiny and healthy looking after being stripped! I've also done ombre, sombre, and root to tip highlights (she paints my hair really carefully so book enough time). I seriously will not let anyone else touch my hair! She's also a doll, sweet and charming and incredibly patient. Oooh, and she has what every stylist should have: an impeccable sense of style. Sad the LES location is gone, but the Williamsburg location is more spacious. read more
