I have curly fine hair, I have moved around to a lot of salons in Brooklyn, I liked Parlour on Atlantic but they closed. Haircuts are getting more and more expensive and I am often not happy with them. This was the first time I not only walked out happy, but I was happy while in the chair. Its hard to show a good blow out with fine curly hair after a cut. I expect to have to go home and do it myself to see how the cut actually came out. I desperately needed a haircut due to damage from another salon. I am a natural coily hair girl and boy did my hair need TLC. I came in as a walk-in and was serviced quickly and professionally. I've been coming to hair & co for 6 years or more and all of hair dressers have been very good, but one has a special place in my heart. Annalisa has been my hair dresser for the past three years and she has been the best! She goes above and beyond. She helps me to feel completely at ease in her chair. Not only because she is absolutely skilled with hair, and I know I can trust her feedback, but because she is a warm and lovely person. It's obviously become a cliche to say my hair dresser is like my therapist, but it's not really that. It's just that we have wonderful conversations, as we pass the time, and I always leave feeling like a million bucks, so actually better than a therapy session haha, and less expensive. Anyway, all kidding aside Annalisa is the best! As I mentioned earlier though, every hairdresser I've had there has been top notch. The service is friendly and the prices are reasonable. Save your money... unless you're a masochist? Staff at this site are remarkably unprofessional: I waited for over 30 minutes after arriving on time for my appointment while the individual assigned to cut my hair walked past me multiple times, and even greeted and hung out with a visiting friend as I waited for her. She was apologetic and promised a discount after I asked her what was going on--I was charged the "discounted price" on top of my $85 deposit. The framing was that the $85 deposit was the cost of the haircut, and that my discount would be shaved off of that original deposit. This was not true. I had to call two days in a row to attempt to get this resolved, and ultimately only $17 was taken off my bill. I would've preferred an honest breakdown of my charges, but I unfortunately had to make several phone calls and be at the brunt of an exasperated attitude in my attempts to get this. Further, I was really disappointed that, despite finding this place on Strands for Trans, I was consistently misgendered and referred to as a girl/woman throughout the appointment. To make matters worse, my hair started falling out in chunks after the appointment due to poor attention to layering. I tried communicating this to the hairdresser through the review portal to avoid leading with a negative Yelp review, and kindly asked for a reassessment of my hair due to the unevenness of the fallout, but nobody seemed to care! All in all, I've paid around $100 for a short haircut (my hair has been above shoulder length this entire time) that not only failed to meet reasonable expectations, but was also marked by a profound lack of care for clients. I was initially very hesitant to leave this review, as I try to give everyone then benefit of the doubt and extend some level of courtesy; however, no such courtesy has been extended to me, and I have never had a haircut experience this overwhelmingly bad, let alone with such a high price tag. To sum it up in two words: LIFE CHANGING! I haven't been to a hair salon in years. Those experiences were always uncomfortable and without fail, I'd end up leaving just dissatisfied that my hair was not living up to it potential. Then I met Harley! I'll start by saying that Harley was the person you'd hope to have at your first hair appointment in years. She was welcoming, kind, and made me feel like I was catching up with an old friend. It may be small but having someone with that kind of character working with my hair made the whole experience that much better. I rarely take time to review anything so that alone should say something. I had a full month of credit of my ClassPass credits and was trying to figure out how I would use them. Never in my life did I think it would be a good idea to book a haircut through ClassPass with my type A personality and curly hair, but after checking out Hair & Co's instagram I thought I would at least just get a TINY trim from the pandemic split ends. I got there and Annalisa quickly calmed my nerves (listening to my haircut PTSD story from years ago lol) and gave me a run down of what she thought would be best to revitalize my curls. She completely understood the "less of a cut is more" mentally especially since I'd never been there. After chatting with her and seeing her start to work I knew I could trust her, and WOW was this the best gamble I've ever taken. To my non curly gals- a curly cut is not just a haircut, it's an ART. Let's all be real about it. If you read up on my review, I mentioned that I was treated unfairly by certain people. I told you to schedule a day when they were not going to work, you instead called me on the day we scheduled to tell me that they were going to be there. You even apologized to me about it. I have no reasons to email you, I'll prefer to just keep my rating as is. If you truly cared, you would of atleast refunded me partial of my payment, not only because my hair is fried, but your worker offered and promised me a huge discount that was never given to me, for my nearly 400 dollar Ombre. Let me preface this by saying I've always been known for my hair. It's length, the texture-- and therefore its appearance and health is extremely important to me. I understand that bleach/color is a rough process on the hair no matter what, but to be stuck with a look I didn't want, PLUS hair that is now brittle and damaged has made me livid. I went to a different stylist after this experience, who immediately told me my hair was "over processed" the moment he saw it, and thought I dyed it MYSELF. To have to spend hundreds -be it olaplex, moisture/repair masks, ANOTHER cut- now to *try* to FIX this mess, is only insult to injury. Was really hoping not to do a review but things have been getting progressively worse since my apt so here we are First the scheduling: as many others have complained it's certainly not smooth. I had an apt booked for a Saturday at 5:30 which I had scheduled the rest of my weekend around. Got a call a half hour before that my stylist wouldn't have time because she has a color apt (or something like that). I rescheduled to Sunday morning with a different stylist. Not a huge deal but this seems to be pretty common. I also wasn't told that my new stylist was $30 more expensive. Again not a huge deal but transparency would have been appreciated The cut: my apt itself was great. Everyone was so nice, very chatty, and the general vibe is nice. My stylist (a senior stylist who has been their the longest) seemed very knowledgeable, we talked through my hair for a bit and what I was looking for. I was a little concerned as she was cutting with her method (I have had many many curly cuts at ouidad, devachan, rezo, you name it). No one had ever cut my hair at angles like that. The cut was also surprisingly quick, I'm used to my entire apt being longer than 2hrs, this was def not. The styling: my stylist walked me through methods, I appreciated her taking the time to explain and also took her time with adding gel to my hair. It felt like a lot...I didn't realize until after I left the salon that my hair was still extremely wet. Seems that she got tired of diffusing. I understand not bone drying my hair but it was very wet, I felt the cold on my head. Post apt: as my hair dried it had white residue and flakes all over. It was sticky and clumping weird. Looked horrible. I had to wash it that night to be able to go out. I have also now washed my hair twice since the apt and my cut is honestly one of the worst I've ever had. My hair is all completely different lengths, the pieces that immediately frame my face are significantly longer than those right next to them, I have a very pronounced tail, it has very little shape and actually looks a lot thinner (something I told my stylist I was concerned about since I was losing a lot of hair). I have never had my hair look like this post any curly cut. It had better shape after a year of not cutting it before this apt. Wow, what a bummer. After almost 3 years of coming to the salon, I have been a few minutes late maybe twice, and never had to cancel on short notice, but tonight I was running about 15-20min late and called back to say I was on my way. What I was met with was attitude from the person on the phone. I was told I could reschedule then for a 50% refund, which I wasn't prepared to do without knowing what my work schedule was like in that exact moment, or I'd be charged the entire fee. Ok, I can understand being charged 50% or even 100% for the haircut for cancelling at the last moment, especially if this is a new client or someone who is habitually late or cancels, but I'm a regular customer and have been for nearly 3 years, I've never had to cancel, and I get my haircut every 2-3 weeks. I wish someone would have thought about this before being inconsiderate and unaccommodating-- I wasn't even able to speak directly with my stylist (of two years). I do want to acknowledge that I was the last cut of their night and though I could get there in a few minutes (I was blocks away), they wouldn't take me because they wanted to close in 30 minutes.... I get a simple fade and trim. I hope you're more accommodating with your current and future clients when they're running late. I went to the same person a couple of times in a row, and the first time was unremarkable, but the second time (yesterday) was the worst haricut I've ever had, and I am super bummed. [Stylist]: "remind me, what did we do last time with the sides?" Me: "finger length" Half an hour later I walked out with hair clipped a couple millimeters long on the sides (to be clear: when you're past 35 as a dude that makes it basically transparent), and there's a weird chunk missing from one spot in the back that my gf described as looking like a head wound. And all of this happened in a week when I have a few professional things where I care how I present. Last week I entered this salon after making an appointment a month in advance.I had talked to the stylist and showed him What I wanted my hair to look like or something similar. During The time I was there the stylist was polite And attentive to my needs however there was a mishap where they triple booked my appointment and I was forced to go with something that I didn't really agree on. I am happy that the colour though came out well however I felt upset that I was treated in such a way after spending a significant amount of money on a colour service and blow out. The stylist said he did not have time to do my blowout and The Is receptionist and the stylist tried to convince me to leave with my hair recently bleached wet when that was something i didnt want because i had a big event the coming Saturday. I was upset because I had an event on Saturday and my hair did not reflect what I wanted nor was it in good condition. 2 days after I had Gone for my service I ended up having to go to another salon for them to blow out my hair and give me a haircut cause my ends were completely fried. It wouldn't have upset me so much if I hadn't called several times requesting to use my olaplex products And after doing my due diligence to ask for somebody who knew how to handle 3B 3C type texture. My ends are now A lot looser than when I came in And it upsets me because I am a curly girl and I leave my hair naturally curly. I'm afraid that when I wash my hair next I will not be able to leave my hair in its natural state due to the inconsistent curl pattern i now have .I spent 2 years nurturing my hair and making sure it was healthy. Just to now have to redo that process again. I feel as though I spent unnecessary money that I did not have . To add insult to injury they were going to charge me again to finish what was started . I ended up canceling that appointment after mulling over what had transpired .I was a 1st time client to this salon and I do not think I will be returning due to this experience. I do however hope that my experience does not deter people from going to the salon But I encourage people to do their due diligence when choosing a stylist and choosing a salon. I want to give the salon a couple tips -One if you have accidentally triple books a client let them know in advance before the process is started so they can adjust To the situation. -2 It would have been better for the stylist or receptionist to have told me in the beginning that they didn't have time and I wouldn't have asked for something different And I wouldn't have to go through the rebuilding of my hair again due to them rushing. -3 do your due diligence in making sure that Services are timed out appropriately. I'm sad that I had to spend a significant amount of money on something that I could have done at another salon And that would have been done a lot neater And where I would have not felt like I was being rushed out or that I was inconvenience. And though thankfully the colour came out Good it wasn't exactly what I requested nor is my hair in a health state anymore I was assured when I 1st came into the salon and when i had called several times that bond maintenance products were being used but it seems like that was a lie. It is better to be honest with your client and let them know that you do not have bond maintaining products and have them make a decision based upon that or allowing them to bring in their own product that they've used before that they know works. I'm sad that I will not be patroning your establishment again Because I am not sure that I can trust this salon to do my hair the way that I wanted to. I'm sad that I might not be able to wear my hair the way I normally do because the process wasn't done In a way that I could keep my Curl pattern and feel like my hair shouldn't have had this much breakage . Friendly staff but not really good with natural hair. The bayalage technique they use is good but specific color request is totally off from what you ask for (like, this is what I'm paying for, right?) And now that I look at my hair, it's actually rather spotty. In comparison to other salons the manageability is just not quite there here. My curls always feel dry after I leave. The wash was super quick. I had color residue left on my scalp, the cut was choppy and the combing out process wasn't sectioned. For this reason I won't return. Apparently the manager said he would reach out to let me know but that never occurred, so I wasted my time to not get my hair done. The worst part is that the woman working didn't seem sympathetic at all. She just asked when I'd like to reschedule as if I wasn't fully inconvenienced. I have been a regular customer here for more than three years -- and have been happy to buy product, get my hair cut and pay a good deal for other services as well. It genuinely pains me to write this. The staff here is in and then out the door, and I imagine it has something to do with the greedy owners and their strange ways of doing business. Things change ... stylists leave especially during a pandemic. The problem is the quality and prices vary such a great deal. There is more consistency at a "Kwik Kuts" -- and the revolving door of stylists and support staff, combined with pricing and quality variations make for a bad combo. My go-to stylist of years was incredibly talented and worth every penny - Melinda. Lucked into another great stylist today (Crystal), but ended up cancelling my future appointments when I realized I was being charged a "$6 green fee" slyly tacked on by these greedy owners. That's an 18% up charge to the service for what!? I got a barbered haircut. My future appointment for a trim came to $17.50 (would be paying 34% more for.... nothing) so I cancelled it after being told every appointment pays this $6. I'm no dummy -- this is a way for these no good owners to pocket $6 without paying commission to their stylists on it. There is no "green expense" to dispose of 1/8" of hair on the ground. Nuts. DONT SUPPORT THIS. The owners clearly don't care about you or their stylists. read more

TLDR: This could have been avoided if the person rescheduling was more honest about the amount of time this would take (longer than 3 hours) and if the first glaze was on for longer than 5 minutes. So I gave 3 stars because I have worked in the service industry for years/I run my own business where I provide a service/the hairdresser I had was nice and pleasant and knowledgeable. It was not an entirely bad experience. I want to give an honest, balanced review. My original appointment was with AnnaLisa. I've had her before, as well as another hairdresser there who was present during this appointment but was not my hairdresser this time around. So far, I've had very positive experiences with Hair and Co. My original appointment was at 4 pm on 04/22/2023 after I had to reschedule twice due to conflicts, but AnnaLisa was out until after my vacation started so I decided to go with another hairdresser two weeks before my trip. I also wanted to add a balayage service. When the receptionist rescheduled me, she gave me the price point and how long it would take. She told me it would be about 3-4 hours. I had this scheduled on my calendar and thought it was perfect because I'd be meeting a friend in the Clinton Hill neighborhood after. I get there and everything is going well. The hairdresser understood what I wanted and we decided on a warm brown color. Now I've done balayage before, I'm no stranger to it, but for some reason the bleaching and foiling service took a little longer than I expected, but I figured my hairdresser is detail-oriented (plus I had to get up and pee a couple times since this was so early in the morning and I had a large coffee, so that may have added some time). Now it's 3 hours in and after washing out the bleach it's time to add the warm brown color. The glaze was in for 5 minutes. After washing it out and drying my hair, I noticed it was not at all the color I selected--it looked red, brown, and even yellow on different sections of my hair. My hairdresser reassured me that this is because I chose a warm brown color. I told her I wasn't satisfied with it and we decided to go with a cool, ashy brown (which I've done before and I know looks good). She told me after drying and cutting my hair we would have to redo the glaze process for 45 minutes. I had to text my friend and cancel plans. By the time she came back, she said it would be double the time since there needs to be a glaze to neutralize the warm brown color first and then get the ashy brown. If the glaze takes 45 minutes each, then why did the first glaze take 5 minutes? Now it's 1:00 and she told me that she's got another appointment. Ah, that makes sense--she rushed the first glaze process in order to make her other appointment. I didn't leave by 3 pm (6 hours total) and I was so hungry and tired I just left right after they washed out the 3rd glaze. Three hairdressers had to work on my hair at this point because the first hairdresser needed to get to the other appointment. At this point I'm fed up--like literally SLEEPING in my seat disgruntled because we're 6 hours in. This could have been avoided if we didn't rush the first glaze process. I understand that being a hairdresser is not an easy job, which is why I didn't say anything while I was there--I know they took time on my hair. I called your location in Prospect Heights crying after I left your salon and told them what happened, seeing if they could do anything. The receptionist confirmed that the first glaze should have been on for at least 25 minutes. I rushed home with my hair wet and got home at 4 pm to walk my dog and eat something. After straightening it, the color is now okay, and the cut is good, I just wish you were more honest the first time about time and glaze. I would have planned accordingly. read more

If you don't like long reviews you can read my next sentence and end with that. This place is amazing - staffs, service, products, salon, everything. I had the best service right from the time I decided to get highlights. So I'm a hair color virgin. I've never colored my hair in my life. The weekend before my birthday arrived, I made a spontaneous decision to color my hair. So I reached out to some top salons on Friday and Saturday for an appointment for that weekend. I wanted a balayage with consultation since I'm new to coloring. Obviously, they were gonna turn me down since it's the weekend, last minute and balayage takes time. But not this place. I contacted Allyson and she responded to me immediately. She's amazing. She asked Li to call me and make an appointment and also told me that my process is gonna take more time but she was happy to accommodate me. Li called me immediately and was open to give me an appointment right away. Seriously, their customer service is amazing. I got an appointment for the same day. Now, I decided to take the bus on a Saturday and obviously it was not gonna show up and I spent 45 minutes on a bus that never came. Hence I was late for my appointment. So I called them and told them I was gonna be late, they were still nice to me and requested me to not be more than 20 minutes late since they have another customer after. I finally made it to the place and was greeted with warm smiling faces. Aura did my highlights and she listened to exactly wanted I wanted. She was really sweet and attentive. I told her I've never colored my hair and she was kinda fascinated to see my natural black hair! lol! I got the color I wanted and she made it subtle which was perfect since I didn't want to go overboard. Even the girl who shampooed my hair was amazing, I didn't get her name but she was sweet too. It took a couple of hours to get my hair done and everyone was patient and so nice. The end result is fabulous. I also got their hair products and it's amazing. My hair looks shiny and beautiful and I feel gorgeous. I've been getting compliments from a LOT of people. This was like the best birthday gift I got to myself! I hate doing this so much but they said they won't refund me until I come in to see "if it's as bad as I say it is" and I wouldn't ask for my money back if we weren't in this situation (COVID). But the woman who did my hair spoke so fast and so often that I barely got a word in edge wise. The website asks you for a front and back photo and a photo of what you want. This was my first time in years getting my hair done at a professional salon, and I couldn't have been happier with how I was cared for. Harley wasted no time getting me in the chair, and the front desk staff was diligent in not over-scheduling their stylists. On top of that, I was apparently overcharged for my treatment and didn't notice...they went out of their way a week later to notify me and offer me a refund/credit, which I would never expect from any other salon. This place moves with honesty and professionalism and is worth every dollar. Never have I ever had someone take notes on my hair and work so confidently with my kinks, curls, and extreme thickness. Harley was very knowledgeable about the treatment that I was looking for, how to delicately handle my hair, and provided me with exactly the kind of styling I was looking for...no over-trimming, no reservations about my goals, just pure confidence, honesty, and focus. I've been sitting on this review for a while because I've been feeling conflicted about my experience here. I made an appointment with Moriya for a purple balayage. I showed her photos of bright pastel purples at my consultation, and while she warned me that pastels are hard to achieve and it may turn out a little darker than the photos. She was super sweet and chatty and just a really cool person, so I trusted her. The day of my appointment we bleached my hair, then did a balayage where we mixed a few different shades of purple, blue, and silvery together. The end result was really beautiful, however it was no where near the shade I said I wanted. I was still happy with my hair though because the new color was still really beautiful. The whole process cost about $400, which was about $50-$100 than I budgeted for (mostly due to the confusing price chart on their website). I followed all the instructions I was given - I only washed my hair twice, both times in cold water using purple shampoo and conditioner. I didn't go swimming or anything and only applied heat to my hair twice. However, exactly two weeks from my day I left the salon my hair was bleach blonde! All the purple had faded out. I was pretty pissed because $350 is a lot to spend on a color that only lasted two weeks. When I returned to the salon for a touch up, the stylists were shocked how quickly my hair faded and swore they'd never seen anything fade that fast before. I talked with the same stylist I had before and we decided to re-dye my hair with vibrant, undiluted purple so it wouldn't fade out so fast. This time my hair came out very dark. It was a deep violet color, and while it looked cool it was even farther than the color I initially wanted. The touch up cost $65 and I wasn't discounted or anything despite being told there may have been an issue with the dye... It's been another two and a half weeks and my hair hasn't faded at all. It is still extremely dark. If anything, it's a lot less vibrant now so it's closer to a dark blue than the pretty summery purple I'd asked for. My hair is fun and I like it, but I'm still pretty disappointed that it looks nothing like what I want. I guess my final verdict is that if you're looking for a salon for a basic dye job or a cut and style, this is a great pick. Everyone is super nice and Moriya did a beautiful job trimming and styling my hair. However, I will not be going back to recolor my hair a fun color again. There are other salons that are less expensive and will hopefully give me what I ask for. read more

I love Dan!!!!! What a gorgeous and talented person/colorist/stylist. I came to Dan the day before my vacation, after a failed trip to a different salon for highlights. The other salon basically did nothing to my hair. Dan totally changed my hair and listened to everything I wanted. I trusted him with the rest, and I left with the best hair I've ever had. Hey girl. You blonde? Run. Run fast and far from this salon. Look, I wrestled with whether or not to write this review for some time. I know most people are good and that we're all out here doing our best. But it horrifies me to think that someone else could go through what I have. Hair stuff ain't cheap. And hair health is tough to come by. The scoop: Day One I went in for a root touch up. After a long (but...just a touch up) appointment with a sweet, albeit pretty distracted, stylist - my hair was looking pretty brassy. Despite bleach! Toning! Painting galore! I stayed kind about it and said I would come back the next day for a fix. Day Two More bleach! More bleach! All the bleach! Toning! More painting, too! To my horror, I walked out of the salon with tiger stripes of orange, brass, and completely unpigmented hair (pictures). There was some panic. Ok, lots of panic. And crying. Hello? Anyone out there? I contacted the salon owner who insisted that I accept a fix from a master stylist rather than a refund. I was wary... a master stylist was present on the first day and actually insisted my hair looked "beautiful." If you think that the work in the pictures is beautiful, then feel free to visit this salon for your blonde, too! : ) The grand finale The absolute icing on this crazy cake was telling a coworker about the experience only to learn that she had the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE... at the same salon... with the same stylist!! And yet the stylist is still on the floor. After learning that little piece of news, I decided I'd never step foot in this salon again. TL;DR This salon royally messed up my hair, but refused to refund me. An expensive service plus multiple color corrections later, I'm only a *little* bitter about the experience. 10/10 RUN, BLONDES, RUN. read more

I came across this salon when I was just browsing for a new salon. I am very picky about my hairstylist - as most people I know are, and because my hair is course, I am extra picky-picky! I haven't dyed my hair in four years too, and the last stylist i had was in LA and I haven't found one in New York that's fitting for me. Luckily, Drew brought my hair back to life! I'm not gonna lie the price scared me, but the attention to detail, caring of my wants and needs and obviously the cut made it worth it. Rondeann did an amazing job with cutting and shaping my curly hair. She explained the process to me as she was cutting and gave me some great advice for my wash and go's.
