The little hike up to the 1st station was fun and easy. We were staying literally ON the water so didnt get to explore this side of town at all. First-they have nothing in English. No signs, no tellers to talk to(in any language) nothing. You just stand in line with no direction from anybody. We wait...and wait...and wait. About 40 min in my dad tries to order tickets online. Mind you it's an *extra* $20/ticket just for online tickets. For some reason their website kept crashing and thankfully his payment didnt go through. We wait some more....an hour and 10 min in we finally get to a sign that says "from this point on it's an estimated 2 hour wait." I'm sorry what?? Why is there NO sign at the beginning of the line to warn people about the wait? I walked over and translated the wait time for the online tickets, it wouldve been a 90 min wait in addition to the over hour wait time we've spent. So 1-youre paying an extra $20/ticket and online only gets you in 30 min faster?! That's a complete ripoff. 2, again, WHY ARE THERE NOT TELLERS/SOMEONE STANDING OUT/SIGNS AT LEAST at the beginning of the line??? There is NOTHING to warn you of the extremely long wait. My group bailed ship, 2 in front of us bailed ship, and I made sure to tell the 75+ people in line behind me that if they spoke English the line would be another 3+ total hour wait. 6 groups immediately left after I said that. People don't mind a wait as long as you accurately inform them. This was insane and very unprofessional to have zero direction from the business itself

The gentleman at the cash register did give us a special discount, which was very nice. You need your ticket to get back on to come down the mountain, so make sure that you have it available. You can also hike down, but it looked like the hike was expected to take over an hour and, there was snow and ice on the ground so it did not seem to be a wise decision for the day we were there. There is a restaurant on top of the mountain and a small church that was locked up. We enjoyed our trip, but I'm sure it would have been much more impactful if there had been a great view visible.

We rented from the SkiService at Signalbahn which is at the base of the cable car and a 5 minute walk from out hotel. We also reserved the ski/boot storage so that our boots would be dry and warm each morning when we arrived. The service from all the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. They were very knowledgeable about the wide variety of skis they had in their fleet and were excellent at determining the appropriate ski for each renter. They have multiple shops around town and on the slopes, both Corviglia and Corvatsch, and invite customers to swap skis at any time if they are not delighted with their current ski. For ski rental in St. Moritz, look no further....these are the "go to" guys.

They have several shops in the area. We used the one in St. Moritz just below the Corviglia ski area. I dealt with Lucus who was outstanding. Each day when i arrived my ski's and dry boots were brought upstairs. When I returned at night they carried all my gear downstairs. The shop is lovely and filled with beautiful ski wear, but there is no pressure at all for you to buy. They take great care of their clients and do it for a very fair price. They provide water and expresso, coffee, chocolates, etc. gratis and do so with a smile. this shop was an absolute pleasure to deal with and the best rental shop I have ever used.

At the top, you will find many possible activities to take part in. I noticed many people renting mountain bikes and taking them with them, many hikers, and there are several adventure type parks with lots of different activities to take part in as well. To find the station you will want to walk from city center along the lake front towards the islands. As you walk along the water front you will come to the station.

I recently went to the top with my friend, and at the top there are MANY different hikes that you can start on. We only had a short time so we took a easy 15 minute walk on a easy path through the Wildkirchli Caves. In the caves prehistoric finds have been made and there is a little museum talking about the history of the caves housed in a old hermit dwelling. There were actual hermits that used to inhabit the caves as a place of worship from 1658-1853. At the top there is also a restaurant and guest house with 16 guestrooms. During the winter you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Definitely a must if you are in Appenzell and want to enjoy the local beauty. I want to go back when I have more time and can do so more extensive hiking!
