Dr. Yau has a kind, compassionate, and gentle manner and I am always pleasantly surprised when he takes a genuine interest in my life, what I've been up to, etc. answers all my questions, and doesn't rush with anything. (Which explains why nobody gets their appointment on time. :) ) I also appreciate the other staff. One time I had painful 2nd degree burns from an accident; couldn't really go anywhere, and one of the nurse practitioners "held my hand" through text messages, advising me on wound care at home. The same thing happened another time when I had an infected spider bite. My only minor complaint is how busy they are and sometimes phone calls are not returned, or questions take an extra phone call to be addressed.

My mother (an inpatient RN) was evaluated here for joint issues and was placed on two months of medical leave by her provider. However, when we requested completion of the SDI (DE 2501 Part B) form, the office refused and told us she needed to attend physical therapy first. We followed that instruction, only to have the physical therapy office clarify that they do not complete SDI certification--this must be done by the treating medical provider. When we returned, the front desk then insisted she would not qualify for disability, which is not their role to determine. Eligibility is decided by the California Employment Development Department, not administrative staff. This resulted in unnecessary delays, multiple visits, and completely avoidable confusion during a time-sensitive situation. More concerning is the lack of consistency--placing a patient on medical leave while simultaneously refusing to complete the required documentation does not make sense. Patients should not be sent back and forth or given incorrect information. If the office chooses not to complete disability forms, that policy should be clearly communicated upfront rather than shifting responsibility and providing misleading guidance. Just to be fair, the first NP encounter my mom had was pleasant and professional. But the administrative handling was disorganized and unprofessional. This process needs to be addressed.

The Nutri Eval and GI tests were especially eye opening and gave me a comprehensive look at my health that I would have never been able to get from the basic, standard blood tests (cholesterol, iron levels, etc) in a regular doctor's office. These tests have helped me change the way I eat and have helped me transform my health. The wait can sometimes be a bit long, but she really does take her time with you. She's down to earth and takes a balanced approach to medicine.

This has nothing to do with Doctor Kaneko, I have never even seen her. And the PA Maria was incredible, she's the one I saw the first time I went to the office. Today I had a telehealth appointment, I thought with Maria, but it was instead with James Miyasaki. Do not ever see this PA if you actually want to feel heard or seen! I've never had a doctor ask me questions about symptoms or whatever it may be, and then I'm answering and while I'm answering, he keeps saying mmhm, mhmm, yea... like I literally could not even finish a sentence or actually express what was going on with me because he clearly wasn't listening, and he kept talking over me. Then he wanted to refer me to a specialist that had nothing to do with what I was talking to him about, and then when I asked why he's recommending that particular kind of specialty, instead of explaining himself, he just brushed it off and said OK never mind I'll give you the other referrals that you asked for. I'm only assuming because he wasn't listening to me and didn't even know what I was talking about, and then realized that that was not the specialist that I needed. Then he didn't even go over my labs, which was the main point of that telehealth appointment. Then I spoke to the front desk which they were very dismissive as well, which is very weird because the first time I went there they were very friendly and very nice. Obviously the doctor did not like me for whatever reason and must've said something to them, because they were not supportive of me when they got back on the line. After talking to them, they put the PA back on the phone to go over my lab results. Mind you I already had my lab reports so I saw all the numbers. I wanted to have the numbers explained to me and what I can do to improve my labs. Instead, he just talked about the numbers and what was out of range, what was in range, and then when I proceeded to ask him if those are things I need to be worried about? Or how do I fix them? He laughed and then said I already explained that ma'am. Then I told him no you didn't, you just told me numbers and I want to understand how to fix them. I did not even get that entire sentence out before He told me to hold on and put me on hold back to the front desk. And yes, I did raise my voice and I said excuse me sir you're not even listening, so yes I did raise my voice, but I didn't know what else to do because he literally was not listening to what I was asking. I cried so hard because that was so incredibly rude, he didn't even care to help me with anything, and then when the staff got back on the line and literally did not help me or care about my feelings at all in the situation I just got his name and hung up and just cried my eyes out. It's Healthcare professionals like this of why people don't go to the doctor because they don't feel seen or heard or feel like they can be helped. This PA needs a Real wake up call into fix his bedside manners. I don't even understand why he would be a healthcare professional if you don't care to help people, or even listen to people. And as for the front staff, woman to woman I thought that she would be more understanding and help me, or at least make me feel understood or heard, but she basically dismissed me and made me feel like I was the problem. I am so incredibly distraught.

When i inquired about it, the front desk person told me she didn't have me down for physical. I asked what did she have me down for? And it was a physical. So then asked if there was any other medical needs or questions i needed to ask the doctor today? and when i said no, she refunded me my copay. A week later, someone from their office called me and asked me to come in so i can discuss my blood results with a doctor. They also gave me the option to do this over the phone and SURPRISE!!!! THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME ANOTHER COPAY!!!! At my old PCP, they did not charge me a second copay for discussing my results. if you don't want to be nickeled and dimed for everything, then i suggest you look for another doctor's office. But i would say the doctor's here are actually very nice. They do listen to your concerns and i did not feel rushed during my appointment.

Upon learning that the patient had sought emergency care at another hospital--while still honoring the scheduled appointment at this clinic--the doctor became visibly upset and subsequently refused to continue providing medical services, despite the patient attending the appointment as planned.
