I have heard so much about Changing Hands. My sister and I were having a thrift/used…read morebookstore/dinner date. Imagine my delight to realize that the Changing Hands Tempe location was mere minutes away from our previous stop! Of course, we had to visit. I was immediately engrossed by the assortment of non-cheesy and extremely cool gift items that were at the front of the store, but also sprinkled throughout the location. I also really enjoyed that they had both new and used books. I try to limit myself to purchasing used books for environmental concerns, but it's tricky to find new titles pre-owned, so I justified a splurge and purchased two new books. The prices for both new and used books were extremely fair. In addition to the copious amounts of books, gift items, indie bookstore merch, and everything else wonderful, they also have a photo booth! My sister and I have an agreement to indulge in every photo booth we stumble upon, so we were super excited to happen upon one here. I can't say enough good things about this spot. I'm already excited to return.

Perfect customer service and a good variety of gifts and trinkets…read more The customer service was wonderful. When I first walked in, there was an immediate greeting and conversation. The owner asked what I was there for, then gave me ideas based on how I described the person I was getting a gift for. I didn't even need to fully describe the person, the owner just knew what sounded good fully based off of my comments about what was funny. The owner was funny himself, was very bubbly and open, and respectful. The store itself had a good variety of options to choose, from funny and humorous gifts to cute jewelry and postcards. Everything was chaotic in a good way, fun and organized, and colorful. It's not for everyone, but I definitely think that a huge group of people would enjoy this place for what it is. The pricing was honest, no prices were hidden from view, and was fairly priced for how expensive a lot of souvenir shops are today. In total, I got five antique postcards that aren't made by the company anymore (and were collectible), a cute pink rock bracelet, a funny pin, and three suckers (one was free as a gift). All together, for the nine paid for objects, it was $46.46 before tax and $50.69 after the tax. If you're not wanting the usual boring gifts people get, you should absolutely visit this location. The store is lovely, and so is the owner. And if I may, I truly think stores like this should be more widely known and cherished, so please do try to check out this place when you can. BYEEEEEEEEEE

It's off the NW of Rural/Elliot, and easily visible from the road…read more I tend to love Dollar Stores for a variety of reasons, especially the Dollar Tree. Each location has a different focus. Some focus more on crafts, others on foods, cleaning products, seasonal gifts, etc... It's also affordable whether you're tight on money or want to save instead of spending a tiny fortune at a bigger chain supermarket. You can get brand name items like toothbrushes and paste, cleaning products, and other things. They'll be smaller, but you won't pay five times the price for a regular sized item that isn't too much bigger at one of those other stores. And when you travel a lot like me, those small items make a huge difference. If you kids and husband with hair more luscious than a pony loses your hairbrush, no problem! I have a fantastic selection of sturdy brushes to choose from. Nail polish disappeared from my dresser because my kids borrow it? I'm paying $1.25 vs $10. Obviously, not everything is going to be worth the price but for basic arts and crafts, seasonal decor (especially the gnomes), glassware like cups or plates (either because you're out on your own for the first time or your kids have broken them over and over), and omg snacks! This is the ONLY chain I've consistently found Andy Capp's chips and onion rings, and they are such a guilty pleasure. I don't eat much junk food but I will STOCK UP like it's the zombie apocalypse, that's how great those are to me. Oh, this got away from me. Ahem... anyway, the store itself was very clean with very long aisles. The service was nice too. Very large selection of cleaning supplies. My only complaint was that the trash outside was overflowing and spilling onto the ground, initially giving me a negative impressive. Aside from that, would totally recommend! (4.5 but rounding up because overall it really is close to a 5 star experience).
