I actually think I was here the last time I was in Scottsdale several years ago but I didn't Yelp it so who can say? Regardless, Mom found some things that she could not leave Arizona without and I picked up some candy for the office and prickly pear honey for my employees. While there Mom tried on some cowboy hats and honestly should have just bought one, but she's never been a hat person. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, from the moment we walked in the door to the checkout process, which is always nice to see--so many souvenir shops have staff that are as likely to stab you as they are to help you. The prices really run the gamut and I suspect some items are priced as loss leaders for others, so just choose wisely and you won't go wrong with your finds at Kactus Jock.

The date milkshake sounded too good to pass up, so my friend and I made the drive out to Scottsdale for a little afternoon treat--and it was absolutely worth it. As soon as we walked in, the shop owner was incredibly warm and welcoming. She offered us a sample of a Medjool date, and wow--it was plump, rich, and had this deep caramel-like sweetness that instantly sold me. You can really taste the quality. We each ordered a large date milkshake, and it was everything I hoped for. It tasted clean and simple in the best way--like it's made with just dates, milk, and ice cream (which is typically what a classic date shake includes). It was creamy, naturally sweet, and super refreshing in the Arizona heat. I also loved that the store carries a variety of Arizona-made local products, which made souvenir shopping so easy. They had everything from BBQ sauce and hot sauce to wines and cactus candy. I ended up picking up a few sauces and some jumbo Medjool dates to bring home as gifts. The owner also shared that they carry different types of dates depending on the season. I'm already looking forward to coming back to try their Sphinx dates, which she described as having a thinner skin and a more honey-like flavor--apparently available in late summer. After much discussion with other friends I decided to give a call and was met with a rude attitude and a lie that the winner won weeks ago. Mind you we were in there just a week and a half ago with scratchers still there. They said they had posted it to which I responded with we've been all been watching the story and saw nothing. I brought up how the "giveaway" drew in a lot of people willing to hopefully win something when in reality it was a waste of time and money which led me to ask if we could return stuff and was met with no returns or exchanges and sorry I felt that way.
