I have been a customer for many years and have bought several lamps as well as shades for my lamps. My last experience was not good. The customer service was terrible. I walked in with a shade to be replaced and was immediately told they didn't have what I wanted (the shade I brought in to replace was cheap). I told them that the reason I was here was to get a nice replacement shade for my lamp. They then asked if I brought the lamp with me. Well of course not as I had the shade and they could see the size that I needed. The sales associates were not nice and made me feel like I needed to go to Target. I ended up buying a nice shade ( the reason I was there). I do like the store and it is my go to place for lamps and shades but the customer service is TERRIBLE. After I bought the shade, I drove off in my Porsche. The sales women should be ashamed of themselves. read more

The folks at this store are poor at following through and basic communication. took my lamp shade to be repaired. It was returned without the replacement diffuser. I came back and they advised they would order one and call me. It's been months and still no return call. I called and they said they didn't know anything about it. I recommend you find your lamp needs elsewhere or you will likely be disappointed. read more

I have gone to Lumen for several years to buy lamp shades. I decided a few years ago to upgrade my lamps several of which are 80 years old or more. The selection is large and I have always been able to find just what I needed. They are great about accepting returns (if the cellophane cover has not been removed) and I have had to swap once. Nick, the repair man, can fix any lamp and he's repaired a couple for me. I have never been poorly treated there - just the opposite. I haven't bought a lamp there, but I have been tempted. I didn't pull the trigger and when I went back a few days later it was gone. I enjoy the ambience of Lumen and enjoy dropping in occasionally to browse. read more

While I'm happy with the final product I have to say 3 stars because of poor communication. I took a lamp that stopped working. I didn't know what the problem was, but the person I handed it to thought it would be a simple fix. She said it would be about a week, which was fine. So 1.5 weeks later I hadn't heard anything and decided to call. I talked to the guy who was working on it and he said that once he got into it it was a lot more complicated so it was taking longer than expected. He updated me on the work and told me he would call when it was ready. 4 more weeks go by (so now it's been over 5 weeks since taking it) and I haven't heard from anyone. I call and leave a message and the same guy calls me back. He says he figured out what he has to do and I approve it. I picked it up a few days later. My lamp is working and was about $50 to fix. I'm happy with all that. But 5+ weeks and no updates unless I call? I was not happy with that. read more

Like a complete dummy, I couldn't figure out to remove the shade from a floor lamp that my mother had given to me to change the light bulb, and I tried to unscrew the top and severed the cord in the process. Awesome. My Mom dropped my lamp, and one of hers that needed repairs, at Lumen. They fixed both lamps quickly, and it was super cheap. Way less damage than I had feared. I went into Lumen looking for a floor lamp - Clay, the owner, patiently showed me many of the possibilities that were on the display floor. I really didn't know what I was looking for, style-wise, so I was sort of all-over-the-map. He offered many suggestions and rearranged the showroom floor a number of times so that I could better see individual lamps. Never felt any pressure - I did end up selecting a floor lamp that I think I'll be very happy with! Not too modern, not too traditional. (Sound like Goldibears!) Hate that the other reviewer had such a bad experience. Can't really explain it! While my shopping experience was fine, I gave Lumen 4 stars because their products are very nice, but are a little expensive. read more

Lumen Lamps shop is tiny, but the selection is incredible and ranges from traditional to rustic to oriental to contemporary. My initial contact at the shop was with sales associate "Amy". Thankfully, Amy got side-tracked with another customer, so an associate with the initials "K.R." stepped in to help me. She was awesome - enthusiastic, excited to assist me in my search, knowledgeable, etc. Long story short: Through no fault of K.R.'s, quite a few missteps occurred after I found the lamp I wanted. The final misstep was when store owner, Clay, was to get me some info. After not hearing from him for several days after he said he'd provide it to me, I had to prompt him for a reply. He then said he'd contact his supplier to get the answer for me. I never heard from him again. I'm a huge supporter of local businesses and will gladly pay a slightly higher price in order to receive the kind of customer service small business owners generally provide, but I never chase any company down to beg them to take my money. So, when it was clear that Clay didn't want my business, I took my $600 and purchased elsewhere. read more

Lumen is hands down the best place for lamps in Nashville. Amy & Chris are always ready to help with suggestions and most importantly shade selection. Clay has always been prompt to answer any questions and resolve any issues. Though the store is not large, they pack in as many options as possible. Lumen has the most unique selection of lamps of any lighting boutique I have visited...it is unfortunate that the customer service I received nearly cancels out anything positive about the store. Lumen had been on my list of places to check out since I moved to Nashville last summer. Everyone I asked for lamp suggestions recommended Lumen. On the day that I was finally able to make it in a couple of weeks ago I was greeted by a blonde lady as I entered. I explained that it was my first trip in and that I wanted to take a few minutes to browse the inventory. She told me to take my time and to let her know if I had any questions. After making a couple of circuits I felt like I had located several good options for the 2 areas of my house that I was trying to get sorted. I saw that the blonde lady was speaking with another customer so I approached a dark haired lady at the sales desk for help with the lamps. From the moment she looked up from her phone it seemed she was not very interested in providing any assistance. She seemed just as thrilled when I mentioned that I wanted help in choosing alternate shades for the lamps I was interested in. The snarky attitude my questions were answered with while I was exploring shade options and the fact that she did not seem to listen to anything I said I was looking for were the reasons I eventually left with no lamps or shades. After reading other reviews it looks like others have had the same experience as me. I cannot understand why the owner would put so much effort into creating such a lovely lamp boutique and continue to let this individual be a poor reflection on the quality of this business. Perhaps my visit would have gone differently if the blonde lady had not been busy. I am still in need of lamps, but am not sure I want to chance another sub par customer service encounter. read more

We have purchased several lamps from Lumen. Our experiences have all been good ones. At one point we were uncertain of our choices. Clay, the owner, told us to take them home and see how they looked. We did, and returned the next day to make different selections. This is the first store we go to when looking for new lamps. Unfortunately, we have no more room for lamps.......we do, however, recommend this store to others. For the first time, we have taken a lamp back for repairs. I am hopeful our experience will be as positive as all of our purchases. I recommend this store highly. read more

Shop here, but order online. They have a great selection of fine lamps, but they are very proud of them. You can find the same lamps online for much less, and they refuse to price match or even offer a discount. While I believe in supporting local small businesses, the attitude of the people working in this store will drive you to the Internet. read more

I went in a few years ago with a pair of lamps I had purchased online during a reno of our master bedroom. They ended up being too modern-looking in person for my taste and I thought I was going to have to purchase new lamps, but the saleslady helped me pick lamp shades and finials that really transformed the lamps and made them perfect. She did a great job of translating what I told her I liked into a reality with shades that I would never have thought to choose. She also steered me away from some finials which I would have regretted down the road. That being said, she had a reserved manner and it was kind of an intimidating atmosphere b/c a lot of the lamps were quite pricey. But the saleslady was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and I would take that a million times over a bubbly saleslady who wasn't able to really provide the guidance I needed. And the total bill was reasonable in light of the quality of the shades/finials and the design assistance provided. read more

My designer purchased 2 shades from Lumen. When I began to remove plastic from shades, I noticed that both shades had become separated at seams. I stopped removing the plastic from the shades and left part of the plastic still on the shades. She returned them to Lumen for me and left them there, since the owner was not there at the time. Clay, the owner, refused to exchange or provide store credit, even though the plastic was partially still on the shade and there was no way to have noticed that the seams were separated until the portion of plastic was removed. I returned to pick up the shades, and Amy, the sales associate, very rudely told me that she had thrown them away. I left a message for Clay to call me with solutions, and I have sent him multiple emails. He has failed to respond to any of my attempts to discuss solutions for this problem. I have paid for shades that he has thrown away, and he will not even return my messages. Obviously, this is not the way that you treat customers...refuse to exchange or offer credit for defective shades, throw away the merchandise, and then not return a customer's calls or emails. read more

I love this store. I think they have the best selection of lamps in town, ranging from traditional to asian/chinoiserie to modern to rustic. They have a range of sizes from the tiniest task light to massive floor lamps. They also have a wonderful selection of decorative porcelains, boxes, side tables and consoles/sofa tables. I only wish they had more space so that they could carry sconces. They have never hesitated to let me take a lamp out on approval. There are only a few people working at this shop, but they are all quality people with a design background and even if i have to wait for them to finish with another customer (or repair ten lamps ahead of mine) i find that it is worth it. They have special ordered things for me. If i have a (rare) problem with an item, they have taken care of it. They have worked on my old crappy first apartment era lamps that go in my husband's man cave, without complaint or attitude. They are professional and discerning, but always pleasant. If you are looking for bargain prices and sales, dont go here. If you are in a huge hurry, wait till you have a little more time. If you are looking for beautiful lamps that will take your interior to the next level, absolutely go here. Is everything in the shop expensive? No! There are plenty of affordable lamps. Just remember you are buying something special here, something that will stand the test of time, and outlive the trend of the moment. read more
