I had an emergency where I cracked a tooth at work and didn't want it to get worse. My main dentist was not available to take on an emergency so I started to do some research for a good, reliable and trustworthy dentist who had a great bedside manner. Hard to find right? Well, I found one!. I called up Lumina Dental and got the Brandon office, which is the main office. Really nice people. got an immediate appointment at the Lutz facility as it was the closest to my home. When I got to the facility I was seen right away and given a very thorough examination with xrays. I met the dentist, Dr. Rocio Barocio-Rasmussen. She was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me of what I had going on. Not only a cracked tooth but a cavity as well. Uck! I thought I was going to have a heart attack. So, with everything explained, I had no choice to get the crown that was needed and the cavity filled, killing two birds with one stone (no punt intended). I must say that I felt NO PAIN OR NEEDLE! She was a sweetheart and always asked me if I was ok. I was in the chair for about 5 hours, but I didn't care. I wanted it done right and with no pain. She was very meticulous and took her time to make sure everything was done right. I can't thank this dentist enough! Keep in mind the only reason why I am giving a 4 star and not a 5 is not because of the dentist. Its the FACULTY at the center! They kept pushing the sales pitch of getting me to have more work done, even as I was in the middle of the procedure! Not once, but at least 3 times even after telling them to not ask me again or think they can pressure me to get the work done and spend money I don't have. In addition, right now it was not necessary and it could wait. They screwed up the financial situation and had to physically go into the office to sign a paper for a refund to be transferred to the financial situation for a partial refund. It was ridiculous!! I know that if there is an emergency i will definitely go back to this dentist, but there better not be another incident with the bookkeeping or the sales pitches. I am pretty straight forward and don't hold back when really upset. So you can definitely trust this review! read more

My experience with Lumina has been nothing better than awful. The Dentist is cordial, but the staff starting with the receptionist has been confrontational. When asking a question, her response is always curt as though she has the expertise that a professional Doctor would have. She even alluded to the matter at hand when responding to my question as though I was doing them a favor. Saturday night: Immense pain in a broken tooth. Should just get it pulled. Pain was horrible and I needed to find a good dentist. Sunday morning: I found this place after a Google search and I am happy that I did. Setting up a visit via their website was easy and they called me to confirm within 2 hours. So far, so good. Monday afternoon: Arrived at the office. I forgot to bring my dental insurance card. No biggie, they could call the company and find me. (normal for medical offices, I know) Some x-rays and financial stuff later, my dental needs were explained very thoroughly by a guy who should have been a teacher. Luis was awesome. A short time later, it was tooth pulling time. Doctor Patel was amazing. She is a young doctor who really knows her stuff. She put me at ease and joked around with me to make sure that I stayed that way. The assistant was awesome too. Their bedside manner is awesome. I was told many times to raise my left hand if I had any sharp pain and more local anesthetic would be given. I didn't even get to raise my hand because Dr. Patel was instant with stopping when I would have a tiny gasp. She really took care to make sure that she wasn't causing pain. This is the worst dentist office in Florida. I went there October 9, 2019 to get an upper and lower partial and I told them of my horrible experience that I had had with another dentist and they promised me the dentist I was seeing was going to stay at the office and finish my work. Well it's April 28, 2020 and I still do not have the teeth that I ordered. I paid them $1122 with my insurance and my FSA account. They took a loan out for me even though I only ask them to see if I would get approved the next thing I know I'm getting a bill from a company called Vive for $2800. Worst I don't have my partial or my teeth. They made the whole thing wrong and were unable to deliver to me. They told the loan company that the work was complete. I was told the loan was being cancelled because I was going to use cash. That was a joke, I'm in collection now and they all of my money, plus the $2800 loan they were sent a check. The loan company VIVE WILL DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO HELP AND SAID I HAVE TO PROVE THIS .Needless to say my lawyers are filing a law suit. I am meeting with the police tomorrow and I've filed a complaint with the attorney generals office plus I have made a complaint with the Dental Licensing Department and American dental Association. STAY AWAY OR YOU TOO WILL BE RIPPED OFF. The office manager Somer has no clue and she is a habitual liar. I have emails from her stating I was changing the payment to cash. This meant tone they were going to send the money back to the loan company...they never did. No teeth, no money. I'm a senior citizen, working to support myself and $3800 is a lot of money. I called did not even leave a message someone called me back and asked if I needed help. I told her I was in pain she offered an appointment to come the same day to be seen by the dentist. When I got there I did not have to wait there were staffs available to assist me I was taken to the back, the tech did the xray and they gave a quote I could afford since I had no insurance. The extraction went perfectly I had no pain afterwards even the pain medication I didn't have to take. It was the best dental experience I ever had. Save yourself the headache, stress, and money; be sure to avoid this place... From the beginning this place seemed money hungry, but I was in need of services so I tried them out anyway. Tried charging an insurmountable amount for a filling so I was skeptical. I wanted a second opinion, and needed the x-rays to be sent to a different dentist. You could tell that they weren't going to give them up easily. X-rays are a patients right, they are your own, according to HIPPA laws, this shouldn't have been such a headache. After finally receiving x-rays and canceling my future appointments with Lumina so I could leave for good, ONLY THEN did they have a change of tone and seemed to care that I was a patient there. The front desk (Charles) tried blaming mix ups on past management, but based on the timing of past reviews I've read on here, I was their patient with the current management and dentist. Glad I got out when I did, I will not go back to Lumina. My advice to patients with or without insurance is to go to "small business" type places that actually care for you and are willing to work with you and your finances from the beginning, not only when you're trying to leave. Plus more locally owned businesses offer more competitive prices from the start compared to Lumina. read more

Do not change your mind on a service and expect your money back. A 90 year old Veteran living in a nursing home decided not to go through with implants/dentures and requested his 8000.00 to be refunded in June. Even after going into the office to sign to have his money returned, he is still waiting and it has been almost 2 months since they cashed his check. They won't return calls and when he does get someone on the phone, they tell him the check will be sent out at the end of the month, then in a few days, then it's up to the owner and regional manager, Ashley. Ashley has not returned any calls even though multiple messages have been left. The office stated they would send the money next week. Not very confident based on previous statements. A few staff members were very unprofessional and would not even talk to the patient directly until the nursing home signed a HIPAA form so he could discuss the status of his check??? Makes absolutely no sense other than to make him jump through more hoops to delay refunding his money. Very disrespectful treatment of an elderly Veteran. Sad. read more

I've known the dentist for years before she was a dentist but now that I've gone to her as a patient I can say I'm proud of her and who she has become. She is a fabulous dentist and extremely gentle compared to some people and her assistants and hygeinist are great!!! Recommend her practice to anyone needing work done! Recently went here to see about getting a bad tooth pulled and possibly getting dental implants. Had no problem getting an appointment which went well. I needed several teeth pulled so I could get a partial. Was given a Treatment plan and a price and was told I had time to make decision. Called the next business day to give ok for treatment and was told person I needed to talk to wasn't there. Asked receptionist to leave message for this person that I wanted to go ahead with treatment and she said she would. After not hearing from anybody for a week I called again, got the same receptionist, told and asked her the same thing and she said she would pass message on. After another 4 days with no reply I called back again. This time I got someone who said they were the person I was trying to get in touch with's, wife. Told her my problem and what I wanted to do, she said she would call back within 10 minutes. That was 4 days ago, even went on their website and emailed them but still haven't heard from them.
