If you're not familiar with his name you've certainly seen some of his art. He was an illustrator and painter whose themes included fantasy and science fiction. His works can be seen on paperback covers, in comic books, album covers and posters. He has worked with Presidents and the Hollywood elite. The museum is run by his son Frank Frazetta Jr and Frank Jr's family. The tour was given by Laura, Frank Sr's daughter in law. His grandchildren work the gift shop counter. The grounds surrounding the museum are private property where Frank lived with his wife, Eleanor. As far as museum experiences go, this was one of my absolute favorites! Having the family telling the history of his life and works was an added bonus you rarely get. As Laura was speaking of her father in law, you got a sense of his humility and love for his family. What a gem, located in the picturesque Pocono Mountain area! Stop by, you won't be disappointed.

They are still doing the wine and cheese receptions and those are usually held the second Saturday of every month at 6pm. I look forward to attending the next one. Located in the magnificent Forest Hall building at the intersection of Harford and Broad streets in downtown Milford, the Pike county seat, this artist's collective is a wonderful place to browse textiles, scultpure, photgraphy, blown glass, jewelry and more. Randall Fitzgerald is a photographer who features local Pike county images in many of his pieces, with other sojurns to Nantucket, Utah and several other scenic wonderlands he captures magnificently on film. Many lovely things can be found here, at all price points. I recommend making Forest Hall a priority when you come to town, for the Black Bear Film Festival, the Pear Festival, an event at Grey Towers, to dine at the Fauchere, go to the Llama Appreciation Day, see the Lincoln flag at the Historical Society, or any other reason. It's conveniently located in the center of town, one half block from Fretta's and a block from the Milford Diner.

But, even so, at least 1/3 of the places on the strip never opened at all while we were there for the next 2.5 hours. I grew up near here and remembered a lot of home made craft shops, and some antique stores. But, now a lot of stores are selling "made in china" mass produced wares like you might find at the Hallmark Store. The few shops we enjoyed included the candle maker, a potter on the edge of town, and an antique store.

Crumb, full of wizards and warriors and adventurers. Lots of fun, out-of-this-world art in various media by members of his family too. Also lots of art with a biker vibe- apparently the store hosts a bike rally each year! We stopped in on our way out of town and wound up talking with John for nearly an hour about his life and art and writing while he showed us around. I wish we could have stayed even longer. Anyone who appreciates an active imagination and a sense of humor will be thrilled to step through the deceptively humble-looking doors into this delightful little wonderland.

Peters Valley School of Craft is definitely a hidden gem. I don't even remember how I found this…read moreplace, but as my father (almost 80) is a glass blower by trade and profession I thought he would enjoy checking it out while he was visiting from NC. We drove a little over an hour from NY a couple of weeks ago to see some of their workshops in action (available to see between 2pm and 5pm on weekends), as well as to visit their retail shop. The woman in the store was very friendly and gave us a map and information about where to go to see the workshops that were ongoing that weekend. We were able to see the blacksmithing and textile spaces and they are very impressive. We had a very quick tour of the blacksmithing area and heard a little about the workshop coming up later this year for teens (ages 13 to 17) before heading to the textile area, which was a little more remote. We had to drive over a mile on a dirt road with lots of pot holes. It just added to the appeal, being out in the middle of nowhere. The coordinator of the textile program (I can't remember his name) was so friendly and informative. He told us a lot about the program as well as the history of the organization (50+ years in this location). He showed us some panels on the wall that provided some information on a sister property that is being built just over the border in PA, and will open a lot more doors for them and what they can offer. The facilities he oversees includes 10+ looms and spinning wheels. After our tour we returned to the retail store. Yes, many of the items in the shop are pricey, but if you appreciate real craftsmanship you will understand it is worth supporting the artists who create items of this quality. Some of these specialties are lost arts. Growing up with my father and regularly attending art shows I understand the time and effort that goes into all of these handcrafted products. If you visit their website you will see all of the amazing workshops they offer. They also offer rustic accommodations to stay in for the duration of your workshop if you choose, as well as providing fresh made meals each day as part of your workshop cost. I would love to participate in one of their workshops some day. I wish I had taken some photos, but I will be back and will try and do so then. I didn't realize how beautiful the area would be. Would love to return for a morning of hiking before visiting this school again. Wish them so much success!
