It's Thirsty Thursday and what better place to review than Lundeen's Liquors?! One of my favorite liquor stores and bottle shops in the area. Lundeen's has a huge selection of craft beer, wine and liquor. There hasn't been a time where I walk in this place and don't see anything new. This is one of my go-to places for craft beer. They have a good selection and the staff is pretty knowledgeable about all the different breweries. If there is something you want and they don't have they'll be happy to look up in their inventory to see if it's available. They'll also speak with reps from different distributors to check on specialty beer if you need something specific. If you love beer fests, Lundeen's ) has a kick ass Oktoberfest at the end of the year. A bunch of good breweries come by, you go in, listen to polka, eat some sausage and drink good beer. Hit up Lundeen's for all your boozey needs. Only complaint is sometimes the prices are inconsistent. Sometimes you can find the same beer down the street at Hyvee for a few bucks less, sometimes a few bucks more. Not sure why? Btw, if you're a 3 Floyds fan...they deliver on Wednesdays. read more

We moved here from Wheaton and admittedly were a little snobbish thinking there would be no way we would find the craft beers ar wines we liked and thought we would have to trek east. Boy were we mistaken. Outside of Chicago, I have not seen the selections like they have here. Wines they have everything from box wines (why?) to higher end selections. Many local wineries are represented as well. Craft beer wise, they would be hard to beat. Local to just about every imaginable beer can be had here. Their selections of Tequilas, my drink of choice to make an attempt to black out, is also outstanding with many I have had the pleasure to try but could not imagine affording. Don't get me wrong, their prices for items found in big box store is comparable or maybe sometimes slightly higher. A big advantage is the drive-up window, however have ID ready and for some reason my passenger had to show theirs as well once. They also have a limited selection of cigars, one of my vices, yet are pretty good and priced comparable to other stores. They have occasional wine tastings and other events. They even had a "class" on drinking whiskey at one point. For some reason the wife said I couldn't go. You need something, this is the place to go. With the drive up, it can't even get anymore convenient. read more

Lundeen's is my favorite liquor store in the DeKalb/Sycamore area. I love how there are no windows and when you walk into this well lit store it's like walking towards the light that leads to the beginning of an epic night with friends, family or strangers. There are two Lundeen's. This one is in Sycamore next to Portillo's. This is the drive-through one. Some of the reviewers are clearly confused. Look at the address/map, folks. I have used the drive-through, and it's fine. I have a feeling they are annoyed when you do it though, but that might just be me. Anyway, selection and prices are great, just like the other Lundeen's. Atmosphere and employees here are of a better caliber than the DeKalb store. Not so many college guy douches, they seem to be legitimate older employees, not the owner's son or something. What is with the handicapped parking though? There is a LOT! Being from the Schaumburg area, I am spoiled by Binny's Liquor Depot. But when we found ourselves in Dekalb for a birthday party, we decided to make a pit stop at this liquor store instead so we had enough for our Memorial Day festivities for the rest of the weekend. I am SO glad we did. At first, I was just going to run in and get some Bud Light Lime-a-ritas (try one, you'll thank me later). But after I saw how extensive their selection was of EVERYTHING, I knew my husband needed to join me as well. WOW, this place has quite the variety of delicious bevvies, and their prices are great as well. My husband loaded the cart down with a ton of craft brews, and he was happier than a kid in a candy store. Anytime I am in the area, I will be stopping back by Lundeen's to stock up on liquor that is hard to find anywhere else! I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was, too! Definitely go to Lundeen's! Jeff was amazing, did everything to search for the OLD MONK rum I had been wanting to find. I could hear him over the phone searching and searching and that in itself is TRUE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I had called American liquors prior to this and when looking for Old Monk and instead found an Old Bitch who had no customer service skills, was probably drunk off her ass because she hung up on me right away after she said no and I said thank you. A bigger-than-expected liquor store, selection is comparable to any Binny's I've been to, prices were high and reasonable on here and there items. A definite excellent substitute for Binny's as you likely won't find a liquor store of this caliber out here in the boonies. read more

I normally love shopping here for wine as they have an amazing selection and good sales. Today I went in and tried to buy 5 bottles of wine, they were mostly on sale and they had very CLEAR sales tags on two of them that they issued.. when I checked out the prices were like 25 dollars higher.. I showed them the signs and they were like oh no, those signs are not valid. I asked them to call the owner to honor the prices, they did and the owner declined. Next stop after this post is to the BBB to file a complaint for a business that offers sales prices, on nice pretty pink paper, very clearly marked, and while THEIR mistake they do not honor the price... leaves a bad taste in my mouth.. Better not go in there after you have had a few because who knows if their prices 'adverstised' will ever be honored. read more

Probably the most cleanest liquor store I have seen in DeKalb. This means that they are the cleanest relative to their competitors. They get 2 stars because of their rude employees who lack common sense etiquette.. Some are very rude. I went in today and the cashier was the rudest person I have encountered at a liquor store. He didn't say "thank you", like most places do after a customer has finished paying. He had an attitude the entire checkout process. He was absolutely rude. His smirk attitude in the beginning when asking me "is that it", made cringe. They really need to fire some of the low-life employees they have working for them and find people that know how to at least be polite to customers. read more

Poor customer engagement with lack of knowledge. This location had an incredible selection of beer wine and spirits, which is why when visiting my in-laws in Sycamore I always stop in. However, after my last, and it is most definitely my last, visit I will just go the extra three minutes down the road to Hy-Vee which has quite a nice selection it's self. The reasoning for this is the young man working at the store is either taught to misguide customers with the misappropriation of product to gain recurring customers, or simply gives sought after products to family and friends. In short, I asked the employee if they had any W.L. Weller in stock and he said "well I know we have some in back", and after walking me to a random shelf with no indication of a spot for the product, he subsequently said looks like you're out of luck and meandered back to the front. Later while checking out I prodded a little further to which the employee said "we have it but I can't give it to you, it's small batch so it's sought after and we randomly stock the shelves to keep people coming in". I do appreciate the transparency in his explanation, however, most bourbons are small batch these days, so perhaps the knowledge at this location, or the lack there of is just common. The reason for this long winded review however, my first ever of any establishment by the way, is the fact that I was told they had a product that retails at either 17.99, 19.99, and 24.99 yet it was too "coveted" to sell it to me because it simply was not on the shelf. So this Lundeen's is either using a inexpensive fad liquor to entice your return, or is simply selling said fad liquor to only friends or family, which I must say, originating from a small town, that's how a business dies. read more

My husband and I got married on April 2nd at Blumen Gardens. We went with Lundeen's to supply all of our bar stuff. I emailed back and forth with Matt and he was so responsive and friendly. He really helped me figure out a basic amount of liquor and drinks to order for the amount of guests we were going to have for a longer reception. We went back and forth to modify a few times. Also, we had to find bartenders for our wedding and so I asked Matt if he knew of anyone. He referred me to one of his employees, Adam, who also bartended special events and even had worked events at our venue before. Adam too was very responsive and friendly. Once Matt and I worked on the list that Lundeen's would be supplying, I showed it to Matt to get his opinion on it since he has bartended weddings and events and he helped me modify it. We decided to have only beer, wine, and two signature drinks with liquor in it. We went with Whiskey & Coke as the groom's drink and Margarita on the rocks as my drink. Matt suggested adding a couple things to make the margaritas taste better than just a mix and tequila. Perfect! Anyways, I loved that Lundeen's delivers. And they have a buy back program, but we didn't need it because with the help of Matt and Adam, we planned it out perfectly where we had no liquor left, a few cases of beer left and a case of wine left. We didn't bother trying to have them buy it back. Also, I should add that the day before the wedding, I stopped in to make our final payment and double-check the delivery time and the order. I decided to get my soon-to-be husband a nice bottle of whiskey as a groom's gift and asked the person at the counter for help. Brandon was very knowledgeable and helpful with this and my husband LOVES the whiskey he suggested.
