You have to try their peanut butter cookies! They stay soft and yummy for days when refrigerated in the bag it comes in. My husband buys a few of them every time we are in the area! So yummy!!! read more

Finally tried this place after living here for over 20 years. We probably just came at a bad time, but there were only 3-4 types donuts to choose from at 9 am on a Sunday. We grabbed a few brownies & cupcakes for our sons that they said were good. The coffee was hot & very good. The bill was maybe a bit high for 2 donuts, a coffee & 2 small brownies & 2 cupcakes Probably won't go back though, except maybe for the desserts. read more

One of my few favorite donut shops, and they have breads, vanishes, cakes, and other incredibly good baked items as well. I like the donuts because they are larger than normal and their icing is very good. They cost about the same as dunkin' so its a no brainer if you're in the Sycamore area. read more

Used this bakery for cake and cupcakes. Not impressed with freshness of cupcakes and filling in cake was suppose to be lemon. When told the mistake to the bakery they would only reimburse for wrong filling instead of entire cake. I wouldn't use this bakery! read more

As I get older, I realize that the sweets I used to love are now too sweet. More sugar does not make pastry or cakes or cookies better. It just makes them sweeter. Ellesons has managed to find the very thin line between too sweet and I'll-have-one-of-each and balance there skillfully. No more convenient store-bought doughnuts for me. No more Walmart sheet cakes. This bakery loves what it does and it shows. I recommend going as early as you are able because at later times you will choose among crumbs. Love this place, love the desserts, love the old school bakery vibe (my first "real" job was at Perno's Bakery in Hamilton, NJ in 1983. Being in Ellesons' building brings back fond memories). If you're deciding whether to stop there or not, use this review as your Golden Ticket and pick up something that will make you smile. read more

This is a "diamond in the rough bakery" friendly staff and the donuts, bread and cookies are delicious. Pricing is fair and we will be back on a regular basis. Businesses / places like this are hard to find, the bakers retire and the business goes away. A big shout out to the owners and staff. I go to Ellesons for the cake donuts. My last visit they were burnt on the bottom or the oil was very old they fry them in or both. They tasted terrible and were extremely greasy as well. I threw them out. I also asked if I could order ahead of time loaves of cinnamon bread without being rolled in sugar. The lady who has worked there for years told me I'd have to call and ask the baker? That seemed odd to me. read more

Owner Ken is old school. The bakery goods are just ok and quite boring. This place needs to up their game. If you look in the bakery cases everything looks the same. Nothing exciting. I rarely go here. Someone needs to bring some excitement and color to the baked goods. Service is usually not very good here. read more

If you want a Chocolate cake look no further. The "chocolate chocolate" cake was moist and delicious. Just like grandma used to make. I drove 23 miles & would do it again. Thank you Elleson's. Haven't had a cake like this in years. read more

I ordered cupcakes in the shape of 18 and requested the 8 look like and 8 and a 6. My daughter's turning 16 and 18. So I requested the 8 have 2 colors so you can see the 6 and 8. I got there, there was no cupcakes made in the shape of 1 at all and the 8&6 didn't look like anything but random shaped cupcakes so she said she would make the 1 and made in a darker color that didn't match the other colors and made the 1 much smaller than the others. And charged me full price. NOT HAPPY CUSTOMER AT ALL read more

I don't recommend this place at all! Terrible customer service. I have heard a few rumors that the owner allows his staff to smoke in the back around all of the food. Makes sense with how disgusting it is there. Don't go! Better of going to Hyvee they have better food! read more

Out of 15 reviews I'm wondering why no one mentioned that this is CASH ONLY!!! My friend and I walked in and there was only one customer and we were not greeted. Does it really take that much effort? I paid $4.39 for two cupcakes (red velvet and white) and two cookies (white chocolate macadamia). Really good pricing here but the taste and quality were really comparable to something from Jewel or Walmart. They have pies, cakes, cake rolls, cannolis, cookies thumbprint cookies, etc. read more

We got a lot from this bakery, and thought most of it was pretty darn good! We let one of the bakers pick out bakery for us and tell us what was good. I think the cinnamon bread is a must if you go there. It was AMAZING! I could definitely see how it would be good as french toast. I enjoyed the donuts we got there. Definitely not a dunkin donuts! Better...haha. Also tried an eclair, which was really good. All of their stuff was well balanced, in terms of cream, chocolate, dough...nothing I ate was too anything. Maybe too sweet for people that don't like really sweet things, but that is not me, so I enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this place and go there again. read more

I work in Dekalb, we bring in these doughnuts at least 2 times a month. Whenever the big white box of awesomeness walks through the door, my body follows it around like a rescued puppy dog following its master. Cannot speak highly enough of these doughnuts, I've had the long johns, glazed, chocolate caked, they are all exceptional. read more

I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Ken, in downtown Chicago. He invited me in for a loaf of cinnamon bread, which I took him up on during my next trip to Sycamore. What a treat! It was delicious and sugary all by itself but even better heated up in the microwave with a little spread of butter. My relatives all enjoyed my "contribution to breakfast" and it was such a fun trip into town to see this long-standing bakery. Thanks, Ken! read more
