Finally tried this place after living here for over 20 years. We probably just came at a bad time, but there were only 3-4 types donuts to choose from at 9 am on a Sunday. We grabbed a few brownies & cupcakes for our sons that they said were good. The coffee was hot & very good. The bill was maybe a bit high for 2 donuts, a coffee & 2 small brownies & 2 cupcakes Probably won't go back though, except maybe for the desserts. read more

One of my few favorite donut shops, and they have breads, vanishes, cakes, and other incredibly good baked items as well. As I get older, I realize that the sweets I used to love are now too sweet. More sugar does not make pastry or cakes or cookies better. It just makes them sweeter. Ellesons has managed to find the very thin line between too sweet and I'll-have-one-of-each and balance there skillfully. No more convenient store-bought doughnuts for me. No more Walmart sheet cakes. This bakery loves what it does and it shows. I recommend going as early as you are able because at later times you will choose among crumbs. Love this place, love the desserts, love the old school bakery vibe (my first "real" job was at Perno's Bakery in Hamilton, NJ in 1983. Being in Ellesons' building brings back fond memories). I go to Ellesons for the cake donuts. My last visit they were burnt on the bottom or the oil was very old they fry them in or both. They tasted terrible and were extremely greasy as well. I threw them out. I also asked if I could order ahead of time loaves of cinnamon bread without being rolled in sugar. The lady who has worked there for years told me I'd have to call and ask the baker? That seemed odd to me. read more

Owner Ken is old school. The bakery goods are just ok and quite boring. This place needs to up their game. If you look in the bakery cases everything looks the same. Nothing exciting. I ordered cupcakes in the shape of 18 and requested the 8 look like and 8 and a 6. My daughter's turning 16 and 18. So I requested the 8 have 2 colors so you can see the 6 and 8. I got there, there was no cupcakes made in the shape of 1 at all and the 8&6 didn't look like anything but random shaped cupcakes so she said she would make the 1 and made in a darker color that didn't match the other colors and made the 1 much smaller than the others. Out of 15 reviews I'm wondering why no one mentioned that this is CASH ONLY!!! My friend and I walked in and there was only one customer and we were not greeted. Does it really take that much effort? I paid $4.39 for two cupcakes (red velvet and white) and two cookies (white chocolate macadamia). We got a lot from this bakery, and thought most of it was pretty darn good! We let one of the bakers pick out bakery for us and tell us what was good. I think the cinnamon bread is a must if you go there. It was AMAZING! I could definitely see how it would be good as french toast. I enjoyed the donuts we got there. Definitely not a dunkin donuts! Better...haha. Also tried an eclair, which was really good. All of their stuff was well balanced, in terms of cream, chocolate, dough...nothing I ate was too anything.
