On our last day in sunny PR, hubby and I were looking for something quick and satisfying and a little different from the mofongo we had for three days straight. Enter Lupis. We were hesitant to try it because of previous reviews however we were extremely happy with our choice! Everything from the kind waiter to the awesome food was terrific. I had the Puerto Rican burrito with verde sauce- a must try! It comes in a sweet plantain instead of a burrito and is just phenomenal with the spicy verde sauce. My husband had the steak asada which he describes as "very juicy, just the way skirt steak should be". Definitely give this place a try for a Mexican-PR experience, it has a great wrap around deck to people watch on and soak in the sun and breeze! read more

Good fresh Mexican food, I had the beef burrito and my wife had the pork. Mine was good and moist, while hers was a little dry. Everything was fresh, the beans were good and not like some restaurants when you wonder how long they have been in the kitchen. I have been coming to Lupi for as long as I have had my time share 10 year's. Imagine our shock when our favorite menu items doubled in price from 2013 to today 10/2014. Seriously mofongo the size of a bowl of Chinese rice for $22.00 plus depending on your meat choices. Fajitas for $18.99 and only 4 tortillas. To begin, a lot of negative yelp reviews seem to be from people who are never happy with anything, but after visiting Lupi's, it became very apparent that the negative reviews of this restaurant are completely on point. I went there on a rainy night for dinner because it was very close to the hotel we were staying at plus we had a coupon for buy one get one free drinks. First, the food was uninspired. The appetizers on the menu had some sort of cheesy "bar rescue" sports theme that distracted me too much to actually make me want to order any of them. I ordered the Lupi's burrito with chicken. It was bland and highly unspectacular. Honestly, I could have made a much better burrito at home with little to no effort and I am by no means a great cook. Also, my rice was undercooked and refried beans were cold, therefore I did not care to eat either of them. My husband ordered the Puerto Rican burrito which was actually pretty ok. It was a fried plantain cut open and filled with shredded beef. The beef itself wasn't special but the fact that it was in a plantain was pretty cool. They didn't serve any chips or salsa like a typical Mexican restaurant in the states but whatever, we are in Puerto Rico. The service was mediocre. Our waiter tried to be friendly but was quick to forget what we ordered, food and drinks still came out correct, so it was all good in the end. The management however was extremely unfriendly and somewhat confrontational. We tried to use a flier we got from on the beach earlier in the day for buy one get one free drinks but were told that the daiquiris we ordered did not qualify for the deal. The explanation given to us was that the deal was only for mixed rum drinks (um, daiquiris are made with rum aren't they??). It did not say that anywhere on the flier and it even advertised their house margaritas. Upon pointing this out the bartender seemed to agree that the flier was misleading and discussed it with management in Spanish. Being that I actually speak some Spanish and am able to understand a lot of what I hear, I was able to make out the manager's rude comments as well as see the visible annoyance on his face as the conversation unfolded in front of me. Being that he was put in an awkward situation, the bartender did not go on to resolve anything from his conversation with the management with us and simply stated that he "loved that guy" before leaving our table. So our waiter was left to just give us our check with two full priced drinks on it. Overall, the experience was pretty poor. Most likely I will never think about this place ever again, and if I do it will just be for their misleading fliers and terrible management. I highly recommend that you do not go to this restaurant. There are some far superior restaurants just down the street where you can get far better food for an equivalent price. read more

Accommodate vegetarians, super fast and kid friendly service. Food was alright and it was very expensive. It was very tasteless and bland. My husband got combination #1 and veggie sampler and it was very tasteless. He got it with red sauce. I got enchiladas with "spicy" chili verde sauce which was very bland as well. Perfect venue for after the wedding brunch. We hosted an awesome brunch the morning after my daughter's El San Juan wedding. Arrengements were easy to make, we stopped by a few days before and talked to the owner. Within minutes she helped us pick a menu, gave us pricing (very reasonable), etc. and we only had to confirm once by phone because she was making personalized placemats with their names and the menue items and wanted to check with us. No charge for this. We chose this menu: huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos with vegan option, fruit plate, toast, fresh coffee with choice of American or local coffee. The food was great. We had twice as many people come as we expected and they kept setting up more tables and happily serving us. This was a total success at a good price. I would do it again and can recommend without reservations. For a regular meal it is more like a 3-4 star place and a bargain in the hotel area. I love their service. read more

This bar & grill serves as a quick way to get a snack or a complete meal. But, their "Mexican" food is by far anything from good nor authentic. Their "Puerto Rican" food I have uet to taste so will not comment on. The service was GREAT! All the staff was super at tentative and kind. I ordered a piña colada and he said it was only 21 and over rather than 18 and over at most places so I said I wanted a Coke instead. he brought me a VIRGIN PIÑA COLADA. I tried drinking it, but I didn't like it. I asked if I could get a Coke instead and he said I could get a Coke, but I'd still have to pay for the piña colada. Service was terrible, late with bringing condiments and such. Didn't ask me on specifics for my dish. FOOD WAS NOT EVEN WORTH IT. DO NOT COME HERE. read more

This place is horrible, had a problem with my skirt steak and the manager was offended that I did not like the steak. He went back and re cooked the same steak and it was still bad so I did not eat it and he said it was the first steak returned in 6 months. We ate here our first night in PR after hanging at the beach all day and wanti g an actual meal. I was thinking it should be pretty good as it was around the hotel. It was ok...nothing to write home about, nothing to tell a friend about. I ordered wings, hubby had steak mofkngo (his first time.trying mofongo) and teen daughter had chicken enchiladas. Everything was ok. Just average. Nothing was nasty nothing delicious. The place was pretty full. I swear I am convinced we were served bootleg bottled dasani water. Something was off about the bottle, the cap all of it and it was $3 other than that of your hungry it will do the trick but if you have other options you might check them out. The service was average as well. Our waiter was nice, he just seemed spread to thin and we had to search for him a few times. I would say probably stick to the Mexican food...I guess. read more

This place is terrible. We made a similar error in thinking people were sitting outside enjoying themselves as we walked by the previous night. Well we were wrong. They, much like us, were held captive while we waited and waited for any and everything from chips, drinks, food, and the bill. You would think waiting for over 30 minutes for a burger it would be hot, but you'd be wrong. It and the fries were stone cold. If I could give it negative stars it still wouldn't do it justice and I paid the bill and felt like I was robbed. Driving down Isla Verde Ave. is like driving down any other suburban American strip--- there's Burger King, Wendys, Churches, etc. So naturally when you come across Lupi's you are drawn to the local look of it. However, the place is basically a dump. The food is ok...nothing to brag about. I really can't even recall what i ate. The drinks are ok, but kind of expensive for what you get. Much better than the rating indicates. Yeah, it's not going to change your life. But it's rock solid Mexican food on par with a decent place back in the Continental US. The margaritas were strong and delicious, and the meat was particularly good. We had Lupi's Nachos with carnitas, and they were superb. Not my favorite experiance in PR. The appetizer (nachos) came out incorrectly; (husband ordered jalapeños on the side and it came INSIDE the food ... which I can't eat spicy items) The waitress never had come back to check on how we liked it even tho it sat untouched; my husband finally took it over to the greeter that seated us when we entered and she had it redone; no apologies etc. The waitress came back with the new dish we shared nachos on plantains and it was yummy once corrected. ; and asked us for entree items which we ordered the enchilada. I told him that I am from Miami and come to PR 3-4 times year and this was not true. He insisted. The girls got scared and bought bottled water. What a scam. Served its purpose . Visited Lupis on Thanksgiving Day 2016. Food was good . Affordable. You can get a meal for $12 per person. Service was not bad, but could've been better . They were not very accommodating . I use to be a server , and the rule is to check on your guests 3 minutes after you drop meals: No sauces no napkins. Went to Lupi's since we stayed at ESJ Towers that was next door. We started out with a margarita and a mango daiquiri. They were good, but expensive. The margaritas across the street at Chili's were better and less expensive. We then had a Lupi's Nacho with chicken. Not so good. The chicken was stewed and stringy. Tasted ALOT like pork, but the waiter insisted it was chicken. A lot of toppings, but hardly any chips on the bottom. Guacamole was factory made and not fresh. Decided not to order anything else. Waiter stopped by once. He wasn't very concerned about what we though about the food. Just blew us off because we were tourist. Skip this overpriced restaurant and go to Chili's across the street or a local taco food truck instead. read more
